MY HEARTBEAT never returned to normal. How come Rexon is still holding my hand towards the table where the band starts eating.
Instead of me taking care of Rexon, I was the one who put the food on the plate.
"Thank you," I was embarrassed to whisper.
He just shrugged his shoulder and started eating. I have only a few bites when Rexon left for a smoke. He didn't even move his food.
I slowly followed him with my gaze while taking a deep breath.
"Hi!" Suddenly someone seat in the chair in front of me.
"Devon!" I said in shock.
"How's your food?" he asked while visiting my plate.
"Did you eat already?" I offered again my soft smile.
"Yup, in the servant quarters," he replied.
"I thought you had a lunch party?" I frowned at the question.
"Yeah, if the book signing ended early. Maybe some other time."
I barely nodded at him after drinking water from the glass.
"Where are you after this?"
He lowered his head and forearms rested at the table while looking at me evenly.
I can't help but take a glance at his sharp nose and with dark pair of eyes. I slowly watched his parted lips as if inviting a sweet kiss. He is not wearing his army cap unlike earlier so his handsome face is now more prominent.
"Going home," I awkwardly said after looking at him.
"Shall I take you?" he asked without a blink.
"Where will you take him?" Almost jump in my seat as I heard the arumblinge voice of Rexon.
My heart almost stops as I look at how his iris turned into a morbid one. I swallowed hard and tried to ignore his shocking appearance.
"Rex!" Devon quickly held his hand for a shake.
"I asked her to take her home." Devon smiled broadly.
Rexon quickly turned to look at me again as if he wanted to persecute me.
"There's still work to be done after this. Are you willing to wait?" He turned to Devon without so much emersion.
I was devastated by what I said. That means we have another work after this.
"If Cherry will allow me, I'll wait..." Devon glanced at me with a smile on his face.
"Ah-oh, it's okay, Devon. I might bother you." I strongly denied it.
I can only hear a silly smirked coming from Rex. So I decided to intake a deep breath.
"It's up to you. If you are willing to wait for her, be it. " He told Devon, then we quickly turned away.
My lips parted at what I heard. I expect something from him. It was as if something suddenly twitched in my heart when I heard what he said.
I knew it was natural but the impact on me was different when he allowed me to go with Devon.
"Alright... I'll wait for you later." Devon's wide smile at me.
I could do nothing but nod at him. After 30 minutes of break, we all went back to work.
I blew out a breath and sit on one of the monoblocks there. I've received a
few commands from some staff. Even bringing bottled water to Rexon's table that I did enthusiastically.
"Thanks!" Jeff smiled at me and I immediately responded. I also turned to Rexon who was just quiet signing their album. He just ignored the water I was putting down so I just turned around a walk away.
I leaned against the corner of the wall and there gently closed my eyes. Holly cow! This is how hard it is for you to be a staff of a famous band. It was as if my legs had been hit by some hard object.
"Tired?"
I opened my eyes quickly when I heard that baritone voice.
"Rex?!" I quickly looked around before looking at him.
"I saw you busy receiving some of their orders," he said softly. His eyebrows rose as he handed me bottled water.
"Uh, thanks. " I grabbed the bottle with my trembled hand.
"I'm bothered and I can't concentrate on signing because I can hear them ordering my assistant for some stuff." He pointed out with emphasis.
I was so nervous because of how he would release that word to me.
"You don't have to follow their orders because I'm your boss here and you'll only receive orders from me. They don't pay you so better use your common sense!"
I soak his words for a moment and I slowly nod. I want to beat myself up for the mishaps I made on my first day as his P.A.
Just sit there and wait for what I command you! Understood ?!" He clenched his jaw and gazed at me with his black stonily eyes.
I bent down to cut off his warm gaze on me. Until I felt he turn away to continue signing. I had no strength to lean on the monoblock and waited for his command but he didn't even give me a look to command.
When the event ended I heard nothing from him. I also quietly followed him as it was already out of the building.
"Cherry!"
I glanced at the Devon who called me. So I stopped for a moment.
"Are you going somewhere? I can take you home." He started.
I can't find an answer because I'm not sure if we have work to do today. But I heard the door of Rexon's driver's seat close with an indication that he was inside and waiting for me.
"I'm sorry, maybe next time," I muttered lowly.
He barely glanced at Rex's tinted car window, before looking down at me again.
"Can I get your number?"
I was slightly overwhelmed because of his questions.
"Oh, sorry I mean, can we be friends?" He smiled releasing his even teeth.
"S-sure!" I didn't think twice, after all, he looks nice so I gave him my contact number too.
"Thank you, be careful!" He barely even held my arm so I said nothing but smile at him awkwardly. Eventually, I just stared at him with my eyes as I walked away.
I turned in front of the car to open it slowly.
"I thought you were going to be with that Marshall?" he said to me with hitched brows.
"I-I thought we still have work to do?" I slowly sat down in the shotgun seat and glanced at him.
"I've changed my mind." He just shrugged before starting the car's engine.
That I just closed my lips and quietly put the seatbelt on my body.
"About, Devon. It's not good for you to give your number to someone you barely even know."
I glanced at him who was just on the attention was on the road.
"He seems like a good person," I answer.
I heard him smirk as remarks but I chose to ignore him and decided to lean my back at the car seat.
"I have to go to Lara, so, I'll take you home first."
"Who is Lara?" I asked.
I saw his jaw tighten and turn the steering wheel slightly. Even though his attention is on the road, I'm sure that he doesn't like my question.
"My sister-in-law," he answered sparingly after a few seconds.
I nodded. So, Lara is her sister-in-law's name? She was also definitely the girl he talked about.
"Is she your girl whom you talking about?" I turned my head and looked at him more, but he was just silent.
Silence means yes.
I turned my attention back to the window. I don’t know what I should feel. Why do I feel sad about it? Why there seems to be a pinch in my heart to know his answer.
"She is the beloved wife of my brother Dawson," he said in a while.
I'm waiting for something else to say this but didn't.
That is why I cleared my throat to lessen the awkward conversation between us.
"She's beautiful in her way. She can easily rip my heart out and leave me gasping for air. She has a pair of arch brows, pointed nose, sweet strawberry lips, and a set of dazzling white teeth..."
I was devastated by what he said. I didn't know he was so madly in love with his sister-in-law.
"Why? Why didn't you fight for your love?" That was the question that clung to my lips.
"Can you love the person you could never love you back?" He turned his dull eyes on me without so much emotion.
He looked back at the road as if nothing had been said. While I remained silent while staring at him. My heart was almost wreck, totally wreck! I feel like I’m in so much pain.
I looked down. It was as if I wanted to be ashamed of myself because the pain I felt for Calixto was not the same as the pain he is experiencing right now.
"When you can tell your story and it doesn't make you cry, you know you have healed," I surely said before I smiled and looked up at him.
But I shuddered when he suddenly burst out laughing. A splintering laughed spread throughout his car.
My jaw nearly drop! Holly cow! How could he be so sexy? I asked myself as I watched him laughing.
