I arrived at the address Janet had told me about, when I got there I saw her pacing around and rubbing her hands together. “Janet,” I called out and she turned sharply and on her face was fear and worry. “What happened?”
“I couldn’t find her anywhere, I have called her line and she isn’t picking up,” Janet told me as I held her hands. I wonder what was going on, but for something to make Janet this worried then it wasn’t good.
“Have you checked at school?” it was late to be at school at this time, but I still need to ask.
“She is not there, I have also checked her favourite restaurant and café.” She went on explaining. “I heard from two students that she failed her audition, I tried reaching her but she is not responding to her text and calls.”
“We have to find her,” I said in a haste, the audition meant a lot to Kelly and I was scared that she might be crying somewhere or thinking of suicide and that was the thing that was also making Janet this uneasy.
“Let’s go check at the theatre, she may still be there.” We both took a taxi, holding each other like two frightened girls. Kelly had always smiled whenever she told us her dream of being an actress, she was so happy when she was picked for the audition, she had also promised to take us all out when she made it, she had blabbered about it all through our friendship anniversary and we have helped her with her practice.
We walked into the theatre hall and in the dim light was Kelly, who was just looking at the stage in tears. “Kelly.” We called out softly and walked over to her. I silence we sat down beside her as we noticed she was sobbing.
“I put all my efforts into acting, it was just a part of myself, but how did I fail?” She sniffled. “I don’t even know what mistakes I made.” She rubs her hands on her eyes and more tears rolled down her cheek and my eyes became wet, Janet on the other hands was also in tears because we knew how happy she had been.
“I showed you both my act and you both said it was perfect, I shouldn’t have failed, but why did I?” She looked at me and Janet with wet eyes. “This is my deepest passion, what I want to do.” She pats her chest and her eyes bored into mine.
“Cindy, it isn’t fair, why would I fail what I put my best all these years into?” She asked me, but I didn’t have an answer to her question.
Janet was consoling her, but I just looked at the stage, angry that those judges had not been fair, they had made my friend cry and have hurt her. I got up and look at Kelly.
“Let’s redo the audition now,” I told her and they both look at me, possibly wondering what I am saying at the moment.
“How is that possible?” Kelly blink tears, I look at Janet and she seems to get the message.
“It is.” Janet got up and stood close to me and Kelly looked at us like we were both crazy.
“I will be the judge, Janet will be the director and the chairs here are our imaginary guest and audience.” I squat down close to Kelly and wipe her tears with my finger. “Now stop crying and show us what you got.” I helped her up.
Janet walked over to the stage and I switched on the stage light, while Janet addresses the imaginary crowd. “Good evening everyone, thanks for honouring the invitation and coming here tonight. You are about to watch the audition of the soon-to-be-famous actress, join me as we welcome Kelly Drowner.” She applauded and I joined her.
“Kelly, go o, your fans are waiting,” I whispered to her and Kelly climb up the stage and the stage light was flashed on her as she began her audition again will I and Janet watch her in admiration,
“Ramon, how could you?” She said in a loud voice. “How could you say these hurtful words to me?” She looked down for a brief second and then looked up like she was already in a movie. “Have you forgotten the promises you made to me?”
Kelly made a run gesture and stretched out her hands as she had just embraced someone. “Please, don’t leave me…” Tears fell down her cheeks and it was so real that I too began to cry because of the emotion I feel. “if you leave me I will kill myself.” She took out something that looks like a knife and raised it. “If so, let’s end it now.” She stabs herself and fell to the ground in slow motion as the stage light went off and then on again.
Tears rolled down my eyes as I began to cry.
The act she had just done was a sad one and it had hit a hard spot in my heart, I heard Janet clapping her hands and cheering Kelly on, I wipe off my tears since I don’t want Kelly to cry too, she just stares at both of us.
“What an excellent performance from Kelly Browner, and other candidates who had also displayed incredible talents on stage today,” Janet spoke up like she was addressing the imaginary crowd. “I will now give the judges who had watched this show the chance to pick our today winner.”
She waves me over and I walked up to the stage and looked at the empty seats in front of me. “Good evening everyone. Just like the director have said, it was an excellent performance from all our candidates, but we judges had to pick only one person as today’s winner.”
I glance over to Kelly who was staring at me with a big eye, I would have been so glad if this were real, if it was all that had happened, then my friend wouldn’t feel this sad.
“The winner today is no other person but Kelly Browner!” I announced and Janet began to clap. “Kelly Browner has been accepted by bright-star entertainment industry!” I said out loud and look over at Kelly, she was crying uncontrollably.
I and Janet couldn’t hold back our tears either, we knew Kelly was broken-hearted we walked over to her and hugged her. “I wish it all went well like this, I wish I was accepted.” She muttered between sob.
Jeffery’s POV
After my mom wished me a birthday and hands me the present she got for me, I thanked her and picked up my phone to call Cindy since she ran off immediately, but I heard her phone ringing close to me, I looked down at the chair and sigh.
There was no way to reach her now, I only hope everything was okay, I will find out tomorrow anyway. I took her phone to my room and lay on my bed, since it was boring now, I decided to go through her pictures on her phone.
She looked so adorable and I sent some photo to my phone, today had been so good, spending my birthday again with her after a long time, too bad she was in a hurry, she would have met my mother too, I wanted to see my mother’s reaction when she sees the beautiful girl I love.
I smile and leans over still going through her pictures, but I stopped when I saw someone, I jerk up from my bed and my eyes dilated.
“What is this!” I couldn’t believe who was with Cindy, I swipe to the next picture and then the next and it all drawn to me, my mother was getting married to Cindy’s father, the brother and mother Cindy is so happy to have was me and my mother.
