Kelly called me the next day on phone, I was still a bit sleepy when I asked the call, but she was bubbling with joy on the other side of the phone and there was also music playing in the background.
I looked at my clock that was on my bedroom desk, it was only 5:00 in the morning, after a long trip yesterday, I wonder how she doesn’t feel tired.
“Aren’t you coming yet?” Kelly asked me. Perhaps, noticing that I was still in bed.
I rub my eyes to keep myself away as I replied to her question. “Is there an occasion today?” I asked her since I was sure we didn’t make an appointment today.
“How can you forget so soon?” Kelly asked in a loud voice that I had to move the phone from my ear before putting it back.
“What is it?” My voice was lazy and dragged as I sat up, I was no longer feeling sleepy anymore, once I am awakened, the sleep always seems to disappear.
“That means you don’t cherish our friendship anymore.” She said in a hoarse voice and my eyes immediately dilated.
“Wait a minute.” I picked up my calendar and peered at it. “Oh my! It is our friendship anniversary today.” Now I knew why she felt angry, Kelly was a calm soul and never gets angry unnecessarily. ”I am sorry Kelly, it just slips my mind.”
“Then hurry up, come over, we are already waiting for you.” She told me and ended the call.
“Oh shit!” I jumped out of my bed and rushed over to the bathroom, now I realize why the music was playing in her house background, and saying ‘we’ means Janet was also there and the person who wasn’t was me.
I came out of the bathroom wrapped up in my bath towel and my father was in my room, setting my vitamin down on my desk. “Cindy, are you going somewhere?”
It was usual for me to take a bath this early in the morning, and today wasn’t a school day, so I understand the surprise on his face.
“Dad it is my friendship anniversary with my two best friends, I have to hurry up cause they are waiting for me, can you please leave the room, I need to get dress,” I told him as I glance through my phone to see the matching outfit we would be wearing today.
“Okay, I forgot that the baby I normally dressed up as a little girl is all grown up now.” He told me as he heard to the door.
“It is a good thing you know.” He walked out as I looked through my closet, I and my two friends have the same colour of dress and outfit, but we have different faces and different body size, we sometimes wish were triplet, but being friends was also cool.
After putting on my blue jean trouser and a white top with friendship inscribed in it and a love shape drawn after the friendship. I wore my white boot and my hair was let down perfectly on my shoulder and back, I put my blue bag around my shoulder and walked downstairs.
“How do I look, dad?” I asked my father once I was downstairs as I whirled around for him to see me, then I strike a pose and blinks, waiting for his response.
“You look good, but you should have also worn a brown coat on that.” He told me and I looked down at my outfit and then imagined a brown coat on it as I looked at my father and shook my head.
“Too bad you know nothing about fashion dad.” I picked up my white scarf. “I am going now.” I pecked his cheek and turn to leave.
“Bye, I may not be at home when you return and I might be late.” He told me.
“I will be back late to dad.” I left the door and bang it behind me, this was how it has always been, today was the date I met with Janet and Kelly, we all came to school that same day and happened to bond that same day.
And why we made it early as this was because, we all came to school so early that day, and it has always been this way every day of our friendship anniversary, we will all return hope late, after a full day of fun together.
They sent me the address of where we would meet since they had left Kelly’s house, when I got to the café, they both waved me over to the seat they were sitting.
There were smiles on their face, as I walked over to them. “I am sorry I am late.” I apologize as I sat down, put down my bag and looked at the two who were staring at me.
“We all make mistakes sometimes and forget too,” Kelly told me and they gave me an assuring smile and I flashed them mine.
They were looking dazzling as the light that shone in the café made their face sparkle, even more, we were all wearing the same outfit, we always make this plan weeks before, they had sent it to my phone just in case I happen to forget again.
They had already ordered coffee so it was served to our table, we sip our coffee slowly, this was always the first step of our day.
“Alright..” Janet looked from me to Kelly. “Are we all ready?” She asked and we nod with a smile as we brought out our notepads and started writing down things, when we were done, we passed it to each other and burst out laughing at the same time.
What we have written down was what we wanted to do today, and why we were amused was because we all wrote the same thing, we always do this to know how much stronger our friendship bond was or if it has fallen apart.
“This is the day that our friendship bloom, I love it so much,” Kelly said with joy and we wrapped everything. “So, what do we do first?” She asked.
“Let’s eat breakfast and so all that is written here.” I pointed at our notepad. “And let have fun like there is no tomorrow.”
They all seem energetic as we left the café, it was still early and the street light was still bubbling as we made our way to Janet’s car, we got into it and put on our seat belt.”
“Are you all ready?” she asked us, I looked back at Kelly who sat on the backseat making a reservation for our breakfast, she nods at me and then I nod to Janet. “Then, let’s go.” She started the car engine and stepped on it.
Not only will today make me not think much of what has happened in the past, but it will also make me have fun again after a long time and I was having that fun with my best friends.
