Jeffery
I gave Suzy enough time, knowing what she must have done after taking the file, I picked up my phone and called her, it was after two rings that she picked the call.
“Jeffery.” She called out from the other side of the line like someone who had done nothing and it only made me laugh, this was the reason why monsters are horrible.
“You did not call back, so I am returning the call.” I tap my hand on my desk, this would have been more interesting if I would see her face and reaction, but I went ahead anyway. “Have you done it?”
“Done what?” She hesitated before speaking and I could sense her fear from where I sat.
“I know you took the test results, but I wanted you to see it, that was the reason I took you to my house and left you alone in my room,” I said with a smile as I stare at Cindy’s picture that was on my desk, she must be in tears right now for this shocking discovery.
“What? You took me to your house, not because you wanted to make love to me, but because you want me to take the test result, why didn’t you do it yourself?” She barked and I closed my eyes in anger.
I whirl my chair around and looked at my dress mirror, I had to hurt someone I love this way, so that she would hate me for not telling her, in other for her to stop her heart from thinking of me, but this was also a punishment to Suzy.
“You were useful Suzy, it is just a little punishment for having the guts to hit Cindy with your car, hit and run.” I chuckled coldly. “You dare have the guts to try to kill Cindy a second time!”
“What do you mean?” She asked from the other side of the line, I knew she would deny it, but her trembling voice was giving her all away.
“I found out that the person guilty of Cindy’s accident is none other than you, you have to beg Cindy for forgiveness or face the law.”
“Jeffery…”
“Bye for now.” I chuckled and hung up with a smile on my lips, this was going to be a great deal of torment for Suzy.
I turn my eyes to the gentle lady in the picture after my mother told me about her relationship with Cindy, I had been offended for days, but that didn’t stop me from finding out who did that to Cindy, also I had visited the hospital those two weeks and sneak peek on Cindy, even though I didn’t want to.
“I did all sought of things, yet I am only letting you see my dark side from now on.” I got up from the chair and head over to my bed, Cindy must be in pain right now, I hope she overcomes it, the truth has to be let out no matter what.
Cindy
I came back home holding the file Suzy hand left with me, it had rained and I was drained and cold but this was nothing compared to what I feel in my heart.
“Cindy, what is wrong?” My father quickly wrapped me up with a towel but I push it off and raised the file for him to see.
“Is this true?” He looked at the file on my hands and his eyes dilated. “Is this DNA test real?”
“How did you find out?” He looked at me and tears filled my eyes. “Who gave that to you?” He asked without hesitation and I pressed my quivering lips together, he wasn’t denying it, yet he doesn’t want to admit what is already true.
“This means Louisa is my birth mother.” I clasped my hands to my lips and shook my head. “I thought it wouldn’t be true, I thought this was all fake and a lie. How could you dad? How could all of you do this to me?” I screamed unable to hold my anger and pain.
“We wanted to tell you…”
“When? When would you?” He was speechless as he stared right into my face and he shook his head. “Is that the reason you wanted to get married to her?” I pursed, run my hand through my hair and then let my eye gaze at the man I was happy for, the man that I had called father and loved.
“Was this the reason you wanted me to stay away from Jeffery?” I furrowed my brow. “How did this all happen, I want to know everything and no more lies. Why the fuck am I her daughter? How am I not the daughter of the mother I know, tell me everything I need to know!”
“Louisa was my first love, I met her in high school, but because of because of my rich background, I was forced to marry another lady which was the mother you knew.” He started narrating and I just listen in silence and tears.
“I tried my best to love her, but my heart loves only Louisa and no one else. Unfortunately, the mother you knew was Louisa’s friend and she couldn’t give birth to a child because she had a terminal illness and her womb was infected.” He was silent for a while and my eyes sting, the pain in my heart deepens and my head buzzed, my mother suffered that much.
“She knew I loved Louisa, so she begged Louisa who was already married to Jeffery’s father to sleep with me and get pregnant in her place since she wants to hold my child in her arms before she dies.”
I looked up my father, if Louisa was married at that time, that means Jeffery’s father was aware of all these and he accepted?
“Jeffery’s father was aware of these plans and also agreed to it reluctantly since the mother you knew pleaded earnestly. Louisa gave birth to you and had so much love for you, but she still had to give you to us as promised after a year, this was how everything happened, she couldn’t see you again after four years.”
Tears stream down my eyes, so this was it, everyone was aware, including my dead mother, now who do I blame for all of this, it wasn’t Louisa’s fault, it wasn’t my father’s fault, then was it my dead mother’s fault.
I was at loss here, everything that could make me and Jeffery be apart had taken place even before we were born, all these were to tear us apart and this should be the end of the relationship between me and him.
