“Roman!” I whispered as tears rolled in my eyes, he was playing with a toy and wasn’t aware that I’m here. I turned and began walking towards him, hearing my footsteps he turned his head and smiled when he saw me walking to him. He stood up and ran to me, I immediately bent down and picked him up in my arms while hugging him.
“Why didn’t you come back?” He asked, looking at me with his big green eyes.
I quickly wiped his tears as I licked my dry lips, “I didn’t come because I had work, I’m sorry,” I tried my best to put a smile on my face.
It was hard to stop myself, to not let my tears fall down my eyes as I stared at his tears filled eyes. I pushed his hair back as I asked, “How did you come here? Who brought you?” I asked, looking around.
Before he could answer my question, I heard heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. I looked up and saw Enzo walking down with his hands in his pant’s pockets as he was staring at me. I was just watching him walk down the stairs, there was a shadow behind him which took my complete attention, the one behind Enzo was not visible but I could see dark brown hair.
My heart began beating rapidly against my ribcage, my breathing began to shake as I saw the man move aside from behind Enzo slowly. His long legs were the first to come out, then, his long hands and his chest and his broad shoulders. When I looked up at his face, the world around me stopped, “Nikolai” I whispered.
“Nik brought me here,” Roman said, I turned towards him and tried to smile but my mind was wrapped up around Nikolai. What is he doing here? Was the only question roaming in my mind.
Roman got down from my arms, I put him down and watched him run towards Enzo, “Enzo!” He shouted with excitement evident in his voice. Enzo took him in his arms and spun him around, Roman was laughing and looked happy with Enzo.
As I was watching Enzo and Roman, I was pulled into a tight hug. It took awhile for me to register what was happening. His intoxicating smell filled my nostrils as I inhaled while closing my eyes.
Automatically my hands wrapped itself around him and hugged him back. It felt so good being in his arms. This was a different feeling that I’m having right now and I don’t think I can explain what I’m feeling.
He released me and stepped back, I looked up at his face, he was smiling at me as he touched my cheek with his palm while tracing his thumb finger over my cheek.
“How are you?” He asked, staring into my eyes.
“I ... I’m fine,” I said.
As he smiled at me, I felt an intense gaze on me which made me look at their side. His pair of green eyes were looking at us with something in them which was unreadable.
Is it pain or something else? The question popped in my head. As I was staring at him trying to figure out what is that, Enzo walked towards the main door.
I blinked twice to come out of it. Did I just hug Nikolai in front of Enzo? Was that pain in his eyes because of that?
I exhaled a shaky breath as I tried to wrap up my mind. Nikolai placed his arm around me, I glanced up at him, “Everything will be alright, Don’t stress out” he said looking at me with a smile on his face.
We walked outside to the backyard, The cool breeze hit my face pushing my hair back. I glanced at Enzo who was playing with Roman, I was surprised to see Enzo like this.
Looking at me, Nikolai chuckled. I turned to look at him, “I never saw him like this with anyone before” I said, glancing at Enzo and Roman.
He simply smiled at me and turned his head towards Enzo with his hands in his pockets, “Enzo loves Roman, Even though we’re not on talking terms he makes sure to meet him” He said watching them.
The way he was playing with Roman clearly shows that he loves him so much, it’s so admirable.
“When Roman was born, Enzo was the first to meet him. My father didn’t allow me to meet him when he was just born, but Enzo made a stupid plan and we got a chance to see him…” I looked at him and saw his lips slightly moving upwards," he never missed a chance to meet him, even though we stopped talking to each other he never ignored Roman" he said staring at them. I understood that he was remembering those days when they used to be together.
He’s missing them. I quickly held his hand and squeezed it. He turned to me, “Can you tell me why you both stopped talking to each other?” I asked.
I can see his expression turning into a pained and regretful, His eyebrows moved into furrowed and indicates his stress.
His reaction was making me more curious to know what happened, I slightly squeezed his hand which made him look at me.
I smiled at him, “You can tell me,” I said looking into his eyes. He smiled at me while bending down and kissing my cheek, “You should ask Enzo about it,” he said holding my cheek with his hand.
I glanced at Enzo, he was staring at us. From where I was standing I can’t see his expression but I could see him turning back and walking to Roman.
I looked back at Nikolai, “At least tell me why are you here,?” I asked him.
He stared into my eyes, “For you!”
