CHAPTER THIRTY SIX
SARAH'S POV
"Ahh..." I groaned, placing one of my hands on my stomach where the bullet had hit.
"Are you okay, mommy?"
"Yes, I am fine. Make sure you don't raise your head up, understand?"
"Okay mommy." He replied as I turned the car backwards before turning around and driving off losing sight of the attackers.
I drove to the nearest hospital and parked in front of the hospital before asking Max to go out and get a nurse.
Minutes later, he returned with two nurses who hurriedly placed me on the patient's stretcher and rushed me inside.
I held on to Max's hand who was in tears before handing my phone to him.
"Call your daddy." Was the last word I uttered before I felt my body slowly leaving me.

I slowly opened my eyes and found myself on a bed with a bandage tied around my stomach and a connecting tube for passing blood into my body.
The last thing I recall was telling Max to reach his father on the phone before passing out.
I looked around and didn't see any sign of him around which got me worried as I tried to get up but the sharp pain I felt on my stomach stopped me from moving.
It really hurts so much. I'm glad I was able to escape from the attackers but who must have sent them to attack us? The good thing is that Max is safe and sound but I've to look for him now. I don't want anything to happen to him.
"Is anyone there?" I called out, as my voice came out so low.
I hope someone gets to hear me because that's how far I can talk due to the pain I'm feeling.
After minutes of calling out to someone and all in vain, I decided to try to get up and go in search of Max.
I managed to take off the needle from my hand before slowly getting up and moving over to the door taking my steps slowly.
I was about to open the door when the door was pushed open by Mr Russell who was holding Max.
"What the h*ll are you doing? Why did you leave the bed when you're yet to recover?" He yelled, and helped me back on the bed.
"I was worried about Max that's why I decided to check outside."
"He was with me. I'm sorry for not picking up the call earlier. I thought it wasn't important." He apologized.
"It's okay, sir."
"How are you feeling now?"
"I'm just feeling a slight pain in my stomach."
"Should I go and get the doctor?"
"No, it's fine, sir. I just need to rest a bit."
"How are you feeling, mommy?" Max asked.
"I'm okay, dear." I answered with a smile.
"Aunt has gone to prepare you something to eat." Mr Russell said.
"Okay."
"Champ, go play outside. I want to have a word with Sarah, okay?" He requested Max who obeyed and rushed out of the ward.
"Uh... So, did you see any of the men who attacked you guys?"
'No, I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I'll handle the situation. Get some rest, okay and uh... thank you for protecting my son." He uttered, sounding awkward.
"It's nothing. I'm just glad everything is okay."
"Get some rest. I'll be outside with Max." He said while I nodded before he walked out of the room.
JAYDEN'S POV
It's all my fault she's in this situation. If I had picked up the call earlier, I would have sent backup for them.
If Max hadn't texted me on her phone, I wouldn't have known what was happening. When I called the phone, he was in tears before telling me Sarah got injured.
I was lost and confused trying to make him explain more when Henry rushed in and informed me about the attack which I informed Godfather about before rushing down to the hospital after tracking Sarah's phone.
One of our men who survived said the attackers were trying to kidnap my son but I'm glad Sarah was able to drive out of the place before they could lay a finger on my son.
I'll make sure I find the person involved in the attack and make sure he experience h*ll before killing him. I've a feeling the gang who attacked my son today is the same gang that attacked us back in New York.
I need to come up with a plan as soon as possible on how to find the real culprit.
"Boss, how's Miss Sarah doing?" Henry asked, standing in the hallway along with Max.
"She's out of danger but needs to rest."
"We'll get to the bottom of the problem, boss."
"Champ, go keep Sarah company." I uttered to my son, who nodded and went inside the ward.
"The people behind this attack are the same people from the amusement park incident. Everything looks similar and there's someone who has been feeding them information about our whereabouts."
"Yes boss. I'll look at that now."
"I want that person leaking my location brought before me by the end of today."
"Okay boss." He responded and left.
It's high time I protect the people I love and make resolutions with one of the people I should have asked for help from.
I know he will be able to use his connections to me find a lead on how to find the culprit behind these recent attacks. Making peace with the people you once shared good memories with is a good thing to do just like Godfather had said.
I'll need to go to his mansion right away but first I need to inform Sarah and Max I am going out so they won't be worried.
I was about to turn the door knob when I heard Max's voice come out a bit loud, I stopped to listen to their conversation.
"When are you going to tell daddy you love him?" He asked, which got me recalling how Sarah's attitude has changed towards me recently.
She seemed happy each time I scolded her, unlike the first day she started her job. I should have known she's already in love with me.
"I can't do that, honey. I don't mind hiding my feelings away from him just to be in good times with him."
"But for how long mommy? I want you to be my mommy."
"It's easy for you to say that, honey but your daddy can't accept me. You know I'm not the perfect woman for your father even if I try."
"You're perfect to be my mommy. I want you and my daddy together and not with someone else."
"It's not so simple, Max. Why can't you understand my point? Love has to be involved before two people can come together and your daddy isn't ready. I don't want you stressing yourself over this matter, honey."
She's right. Love has to be involved before two people can be together but is she right about me not being ready to fall in love when I feel a thing towards her?
My feelings say it all but I'm not ready to accept the fact that I'm in love with someone else after Amanda. I feel I've made a grave sin to Amanda by developing feelings for our son's nanny which I don't know if she will ever be able to forgive me.
