I wandered my eyes around the office. The room was dark because the curtains covered the windows. There's nothing in this room except the lounge and the coffee table, the working table and the two chairs on the front.
The table was clean, so as the royal blue wall that has no displays and hanging frames.
I heard the door opened and closing, and the gentle strides walking towards me. I didn't have the chance to turn when he talked behind me.
"How was your sleep?" a familiar voice lingered through my ear.
I was nailed into my place. My entire body tensed up, I could feel sweats drenching all over my skin and my blood pulsing through my veins.
I shut my eyes up, unable to answer him. Instead, I quickly faced to ask him but my tongue stiffened at his playful smile.
He looked very fresh and handsome in his white long sleeve polo with black trouser suit, and his butter soft leather shoes.
I don't need to ask if he's the owner of the resort because it's already obvious.
"I didn't wake you up because I know you're tired..." he said while not leaving my eyes.
I nibbled my lip. I'm confused at his actions even from last night.
"Gabriel, what are we doing here? I'm supposed to go back to work, right?" I finally spoke out.
"Yes, you're going to work here today..." he said seriously.
I furrowed my brows at him, "I-I don't understand," I muttered and shook my head.
His eyes drop briefly to my mouth, and said, "I have a work to do here, and as my secretary, you should be the first one to be informed."
I swallowed at the attack of his woeds. I felt guilty at the weeks I left work. If I didn't leave all of a sudden, I wouldn't have looked like a fool right now.
"But before that, let's have lunch together..." He extended his arm to entwine our fingers.
I shivered at the way he squeezed my hand. It created an erratic pulse in my innards. I still have no idea on what's happening.
We got out the office together while holding hands. I bit my lips, hoping he doesn't notice what he's doing to my pulse.
"Gabriel, there's people here..." I whispered as I try to pull my hand off him.
"They didn't even know you, you don't have to worry," he assured me.
I heaved a sigh before looking up to him. "But they know you..." I said in an anxious tone.
He chuckled softly and ducked his head to look at me. "I don't really care."
Those simple line made my heart skip a beat and softened little by little. What the hell is happening?!
I glanced at Gabriel who's now wearing a sunglass. His eyes were focused on the path we're walking, having no plans of letting my hand go.
Some crews immediately welcomed us. They seemed to be waiting for our arrival.
"Good afternoon, Mr–"
The crew's words were cut off when Gabriel raised his hand to stop him
"Is everything done?" he asked in his baritone voice.
"Ah! Yes, sir!" The crew bowed his head.
"Good, let's go..."
We got on a boat and drove towards a yacht. I thought it was the end of my agitation, but I was wrong.
I held the yacht's railings tightly while staring at the waves pushing us off the island.
The sun had risen pretty high, I closed my eyes and breathed in steadily. I felt like I'm slowly going back to the past, where the rain is too heavy and the wind seemed to want to knock the ship down. I could clearly feel the pain, until now, everything is still fresh though almost three years had pass.
I wanted to laugh at my situation. I smiled and shook my head a little. Fate is really playing with us, huh?
"Excuse me, Mrs. Grant."
I turned to face the uniformed guy and gave off a smile.
"Sir... Sir wants you in the white room," he informed while his eyes are on the floor.
My forehead creased a little when he didn't state Gabriel's name.
"Okay. Thank you!"
He led me to a room at the end of the yacht. Like what he said, the walls, the ceiling and everything are pure white. I can't see any furnitures there except the white round table.
The food was already sitting neatly at the table, facing the table are two white chairs. My heart almost flew out of my chest at the sight of the man sitting on one of the chairs.
Gabriel is sitting comfortably at the white chair. As I sneakily glanced at him, I saw a malevolent smile at the corner of his lips.
I stopped walking when he turned to my direction. I wanted to melt because he's so damn perfect. And I felt so stupid of how nervous I've been.
He stood up from his seat and walked towards me. In one swift movement, he's already holdinh my hand while leading me to the table.
We silently ate our food, but I can't help but to feel nervous at the way he watched me.
"You seem nervous..." he said, breaking the silence between us.
Blush burned through my cheeks and my face felt like an early summer. My eyes went to my food. Is it really that obvious?
"Nope," I lied.
"Are you that scared of me?" he asked straightly. He wore a very solemn expression on his face.
I suddenly felt awkward as I attempted to hide my rosy cheek. If Hezekiah's the one talking to me, I wouldn't have any reason to be scared, but it's a whole new person in front of me.
Gabriel could hardly be more different than Hezekiah. He looks cruel and ruthless, but nevertheless he is intense and indescribably hot. It's very different to Zeki who's just quiet and subtle at his movements.
"It doesn't matter if I'm scared or not. What are we doing here?" I seriously questioned.
Gabriel's expression was stoic as he watched me silently for a few seconds. But he smiled after and shook his head lightly.
He leaned forward, folding his arms on the table and tilted his head, "Do you know what kind of person I am?"
I lifted my eyes, meeting his stare again. I don't know where this conversation is going.
"I don't know what you're talking about," I silently dropped my utensils.
I heard him chuckle lightly, a reason why I bit my lip.
"I'm dangerous. I'm not as kind as you thought..." he said in a vicious tone.
I swallowed hard and shifted to my seat uncomfortably. I don't know why, bit I suddenly felt nervous at our conversation. I chose to be casual and ate my food silently.
"I know that your arrival in our lives is not just a coincidence. It's impossible for you to be at that highway because there's no other house there except ours..." he stated.
I stopped swallowing my food and stiffened. I can't bring myself to look at him because I'm afraid he'll read my eyes.
"Tell me, who are you?" he asked again.
"What... do you... mean?" Fuck! I'm damn stuttering.
"You know what I'm talking about, Emory..." he said in his baritone voice.
I shut my eyes close and took a deep breath before staring at him. Again, I could feel my heart is about to leap out from my chest and I'm fucking shaking like a leaf. I'm also having cold sweats due to nervousness.
I gulped before opening my lips, but I chose to close it again. I fell my lashes down and settled my back against the chair. I can't seem to confess the truth. I'm scared he won't believe me, and worst, he might throw me out.
