Two Wives Chapter 50

I filled my lungs with gusty air and proudly flaunted my body towards the water. When I reached the right depth of the water, I started to dive underneath the salty water. The coldness of the water made my lips quiver, but I didn't mind. I just wanted to wash away everything although the water level is getting higher due ti high tide. I breathed in real slow. The flaming rage in my heart disappeared completely. I felt refreshed and light as I stayed longer. The moon guided me through the water deeply. I was challenged to dive deeper. I could see nothing but pitch-black darkness. When I felt the waves' current getting stronger, i decided to swim back up. When I thought it's easy to swim up, I suddenly felt pain on my legs. It made me nervous. My leg was cramped and strained so bad that I could hardly move it. A scream came out of my mouth before I drowned. I tried so hard to swim but I just can't. I'm drowning and panicking. I wanted to find the water's surface but my body was paralyzed. Oh, Jesus! I feel like I'm dying. Slowly, my lungs started to search for air as my energy is slowly draining. I frighteningly shut my eyes, No! It can't end like this after everything I've gone through. Hezekiah... Hezekiah needs to know that I'm his wife! Before the ocean completely swallowed me, I felt someone held my arm tightly. "Zeki..." "Meredith! Wake up!" I heard a panicking voice echoing in my head. "We should call the ambulance, she's still unconscious!" Slowly, everything I heard became clearer and I felt someone panicking beside me. I slowly opened my eyes, Alessandra's worried face immediately welcomed me. "Oh thank God, Meredith!" I felt her tight hug. "How are you? Are you hurt? We'll bring you to the hospital, they already called the ambulance..." she said nervously. "No, I'm okay..." I shook my head slowly and tried to sit up. "No, wait. I think you should be checked by the doctor. What happened isn't a joke. You drowned, you almost died out there!" she frantically said. I closed my eyes and forced myself up, but she didn't let me. "I'm really fine," I insisted. "You shouldn't have swam alone, especially now that the waves are strong due to high tide," Gabriel muttered. I noticed that his clothes were also wet while he's kneeling beside me. His eyes were dark, and the whites of his eyes contrasted sharply. "Y-you saved me?!" I said, shocked of the discovery. He didn't bother to answer, instead he turned his eyes to Alessandra. "I'll bring her to the hospital, stay here with Ferry and the others." "No, I'll go with you," Alessandra insisted. In the end, I just let them bring me to the hospital. It's a good thing that it's just near Galla Via. "It's a relief that she was saved fast and immediately received first aid. She inhaled only a small amount of water so the patient is free to be discharged," the doctor told Gabriel. "Thank you, Doc!" Alessandra thanked. The doctor got out with Gabriel, leaving me with Alessandra. "Did you hear that? You can be discharged. Let's just wait for Gab so we can return to Galla." I pursed my lips and looked away. I wanted to go home but I know I already bothered them so much. Instead of relaxing and enjoying their vacation, I brought worry and problem to them. "I'm sorry, it's my fault. I shouldn't have forced myself to swim alone," I almost whispered. "What happened was an accident, don't blame yourself. The important thing right now is that you're safe," she said and smiled. I nodded at her before standing up to fix myself. Gabriel then entered the room once again. He frowned hard and looked down at me. I ducked my head a little, breaking eye contact with him. I'm so embarrassed, I just realized how dumb I was earlier. I got preoccupied that I didn't think about what will happen if I swim on the deep part of the sea. "Let's go, it's getting late," he said, expressionless. He then turned his back on us and got out first. We safely returned to the resort to rest. Our scheduled return to San Marcelino is tomorrow, so even if I wanted to go home and take a proper rest, I can't. Everything.was silent but I'm still wide awake. I can't sleep thinking about what happened earlier. If not for Gabriel saving me, I'm sure I won't be here lying on my bed. It took me back to earlier. He's soaked and wet, oh damn! He was gorgeously hot and his bulging masculine muscles made myself tremble. I shook my head, why am I thinking about these sinful thoughts. I sighed. "He saved me..." I muttered under my breath. It took a bit of time before I realized what he did. "He saved me! It means, he swam?!" I exclaimed. He said that he can't swim and he's afraid to try but he did it earlier to save me! I quickly ran towards the balcony where I can sight their cottage. But I was dissapointed to see their lights off. I need to talk to him. I'm sure he remembers a bit. One of the things that bothered me is how he reacted earlier when I mentioned his siblings. Right, I should be positive about those little details. But what if I'm wrong? What if I'm just overthinking things? A heavy sigh came out from my mouth. With dropped shoulders, I stared mindlessly at the sea. I quickly turned to my side when I sighted a familiar silhouette. His back reminds me of a Greek God, as if it could map out the ancient seas and tell me everything I don't know. His bulging and ropy muscles with arms like twigs, making my heart twitched. He's standing while his arms were on the railings. He slowly swirled his rock glass while he's facing the horizon. I love the fact that he can mess up my mind just so easily. He is my one stable force that stretches through out my whole body, yet it makes me feel complete. I didn't noticed that I was already walking towards him. My heart thumped eratically as I get closer to him. It feels as though I'm in a dangerous fire, yet I'm completely safe at the same time. A few more steps and I'll.be able to reach him when he suddenly turned to me. My breath instantly evaporated from my chest as I stood frozen on the sand. I cleared my throat, "Hi..." He tilted his head, curiosity clouding his expression. He's probably wondering why I'm in front of him. "What are you doing here?" he asked coldly, his gaze went down to his glass, eyes like sunlight shining through the whiskey... and I find him hot. I cleared my throat again, "Uh, I can't sleep so I decided to unwind for a bit..." He stared back at me and slowly dippedn his gaze upon me. "I don't believe you... Meredith." His voice was intentionally low and sexy. I gulped at the way he scanned my night gown. He probably read what I'm thinking so I took a deep breath and looked up at him. "Can I have a drink?" I noticed my voice was shaking, I tried to make it sound firmer as I do the same with my wobbling knees. I swallowed when he gave me his glass. His facial featured were chiseled, lips were thin yet extremely hot. I was already drunk at the mere sight of him. If he didn't raise his brows at me, I wouldn't have snapped and received his glass. "Thanks..." I smiled at him before sipping the alcohol. "You should rest, we're going early tomorrow," he said before facing the sea. I blew out a breath, lightly kicking the sand as I stared at the night sky. "Why did you do it?" He laughed a little and crossed his arm over his chest. "You said you're scared of the sea, how did you manage to save me from drowning?" I seriously said.
