Kyle's Greenwood’s POV
"Oh my goodness Kyle," Sonia said, her face is the first thing I can see the moment I opened my eyes, I am wondering what she is doing here in my room, as I tried to sit up on the bed.
"Thank goodness you are awake now, Kyle, you got me worried," she continues like a worried wife, with a worried look on her face.
"What are you doing..."
"You don't need to say much or stress your body Kyle, what you need to do now is lie back down so that you can regain your strength, she said, interrupting me when I am about to ask her what happened that she is acting all concerned and who let her into my room.
Before I could say anything in response to what she just told me, I had the door open, that is when I realized that I am not at home in my room but rather in a hospital.
"Wait, how did I come to be here? What happened to me?" I asked looking around the hospital, and holding my hand to my head because of the pain I feel in my head, it is like I have got a terrible headache.
I recalled almost immediately that this is not the place I went, I remembered that I had gone to the office to confront Brian about giving Kimberly a cheque dad had instructed him to give her, yes, that was it, I was angry about Brian obeying dad and doing every little he wanted, how come I am here then? I asked within me.
"Mum, Kyle is awake," Sonia told my mum, she and Doctor Sam were the ones who just came into the ward.
"How do you feel, Kyle?" Doctor Sam asked walking towards me.
"My head hurts," I told him, "How did I get here?" I asked looking at mum.
"How else, you stubborn child, how else? You passed out, Kyle, you passed out in Brian's office." Mum said almost like she is scolding me, her brows furrowed at me.
"You know your health condition and yet, you went ahead and donated blood to someone else, that lady is lucky that nothing bad happened to you, she would have seen the lioness in me, I would have shown her that I am not just a Greenwood for nothing," Mum said and she speaks with so much hate.
"Mum, what has the lady got to do with my health?" I asked knowing at once who she is talking about and I am wondering why she speak of her with so much hate.
"What? You dare to ask that?" Sonia asked sounding and looking angry.
"Hey, you stay out of this, Sonia, I am talking to my mum not you," I snapped at her, still holding my hand to my head. "What are you doing here in the first place?" I asked her, "Mum, how come she is here?" I asked turning to my mum furiously, forgetting that I have a headache.
"Slow down, Kyle, you still need to relax," Doctor Sam told me, adjusting the pillows on the bed so that I can lean on them.
"Did you see that, Sam, did you see how weak my son is because of your bid to save a life?" Mum asked Doctor Sam angrily.
"Mum, you do not need to talk to Doctor Sam that way, I am a full-grown man now and I am old enough to make my decisions, I decided to donate my blood out of my will, not because anybody compelled me to, so please leave Doctor Sam out of it, " I told Mum.
"Will you shut up," Mum said turning to me, "Who told you you can make such reckless decisions? You are my son and I would not want anything bad to happen to you, so you should not make such reckless decisions again, in fact," Mum said again turning to Doctor Sam.
"On no account will you ever take this kind of decision without my consent, so long as it concerns my son's life, you know his health condition and yet, you allowed him to donate his blood to a total stranger," Mum brawled at Doctor Sam, who just looked at her and said nothing, I know it is not because he is afraid to speak to Mum like some of the other doctors but perhaps because he didn't want to argue or get into a needless quarrel with mum.
"Mum, I told you to leave Doctor Sam out of it, that boy is no stranger to me, Mum," I told her without even thinking of it, I feel like I am attached to the boy in some way, maybe it is because he is the son of the woman I love.
"What? What did you say?" Sonia asked glaring at me, "How come he is not a stranger to you? Do you know the boy from anywhere?" Sonia asked again, "Do you have any form of relationship with him? It is not like he is your son," Sonia added, frowning at me, if only she knows how much I would have loved it if that boy were to be mine, giving the fact that he is the son of the love of my life.
"I said stay out of my business, Sonia, whether I know the boy or not, it is none of your business," I said in clenched teeth, sneering at her too, angry that she is still talking when I asked her to stay out of my business.
"Shut up, Kyle," Mum said, "and don't speak to Sonia like that, she is right, how come the boy is no stranger to you? Do you know him from anywhere?" Mum asked glaring at me too.
"Mum, I did not know him before, but I do know him now, since the accident I feel attached and concerned about the boy, that is why I had to do what I did," I told mum.
"Ewe, how can you be attached to such a kid?" Sonia said making a facial expression that shows she is disgusted by what I said, and this sparked more anger in me, how dare she make a face like that as if the child is not human?
"How can you feel attached to such a kid? I don't understand you? Why can't you just be like Brian?" Mum asked.
"How do you mean, Mum?" I asked in return.
"Stop all this nonsense drama of yours, Kyle, stop being stubborn and be obedient like your brother, Brian, stop making me worry so much about you, your dad is terribly angry with you, he gave you an instruction to stay away from matters regarding the accident, but you disobeyed him and went ahead and come here against his instruction, now look at the result of your disobedience, look at how weak you have become."
"I am going to be alright, Mum," I told her, I do not wish to drag this issue any further with her, "and as for dad being angry with me, he will get past it soon," I told her too.
"What? He will get past it, is that what you are going to say, Kyle?" Mum asked me, getting very angry this time.
"Look, Kyle, I will not plead on your behalf to your dad again, let him do how he pleases with you, I do not know what you want exactly, you have a good well to do family that loves you, you are given an opportunity to be a part of your dad's business, a business so many young men your age would wish they have the privilege to be a part of and a beautiful woman who loves you and want nothing but to be by your side, what more do you want, Kyle?" Mum asked, sounding a little emotional, just like she do whenever she want to get me to do something dad wants or do something for her.
"Mum, please, let's not do this here, I am a little exhausted," I told her, I do not want to hear any more because I know where she is headed.
"Exhausted you say?" Mum asked, "How can you not be exhausted? Now that it is about something serious, you are exhausted," Mum said.
"Please, Mum, let me rest now, I have a headache," I told her, leaning back properly on the bed and facing the roof.
"I will leave now, Sam, make sure my son gets back on his feet as soon as possible, and I hope you have done what you are instructed to do?" Mum said to Doctor Sam.
"Yes, Ma'am," Doctor Sam who has been standing quietly beside me said in reply, I wonder what it is that he was instructed to do.
"I am leaving, Sonia," Mum said, turning to leave the room...
