"What is wrong with you?" Vicky asked the moment I walked into Alex's ward, "why are you looking like this?" She asked again peering inquisitively at me.
"Mummy," Sandra called, running from Vicky to me, looking excited, I did not bother about her excitement though, I take it that she's excited to see me.
"It's nothing," I said in reply to Vicky's question while picking Sandra off the ground and leaning on the door after I closed it behind me, I know that Vicky and Jimmy are in on it together, she must have asked him to tell me what he just told me outside Dr Sam's office about talking to Kyle about my Kids, she will never stop I knew it.
"Mummy..." Sandra called.
"Nothing?" Vicky asked interrupting Sandra before she could say any more, still peering at me, "and you are looking like this." She said again.
"I said it's nothing," I replied her in clenched teeth, I am trying my best not to be angry with her anymore.
"It is alright, look who is awake then," she told me.
"Who?" I asked following her eyes as she gestures to me.
"Mummy, it is Alex, that's what I'm trying to tell you," Sandra said, wrapping her little arms around my neck
"Alex?" I cried, "Oh, my baby... you're awake?" I cried again, leaving the door immediately and working over to Alex's bed.
"Mummy," Alex called but in a little faint tone.
"Oh, my sweetie..." I cried again putting Sandra softly on the bed immediately beside Alex, hugging and kissing him all over.
"Take it easy Mummy, or you are going to hurt him," Sandra told me in a way of looking out for her brother.
"Oh, okay, I'm sorry baby," I told Sandra, "and you, why didn't you say anything when you heard me come in?" I said playfully to Alex, and then bent over to kiss his forehead.
"You too, Vicky, why didn't you say anything the moment I stepped in? my son is awake and you didn't tell me, instead, you started asking me something else," I asked turning to Vicky.
"I was only asking, Kim, because your face wasn't looking bright at all when you stepped in and I did not want you to see Alex in the face like that Vicky told me in return, "besides he is just waking up," she added.
"I'm hungry, mummy," Alex told me.
"You are hungry?" I asked and he nodded in response.
"Oh, Okay," I said, sounding a little confused because I never thought or considered that until now, I did not even ask if Sandra has eaten anything or not too.
"It's alright pumpkin, aunty Vicky has got you covered, I have something for you," Vicky told Alex, lifting a food flask from the corner of the bed, "yeah, sit up so that you can have some noodles, Sandra left some for you not long ago, so I bet it is still warm," she said helping Alex who looks a little excited sit up on the bed, they love noodles, it is one of he and Sandra's favourite.
"Yes, Alex, aunty Vicky left some for you, she said you might be hungry when you wake up," Sandra said to Alex, feeling happy herself.
"Thank you, Vicky," I said looking at her, it's a good thing she is here with me through all this, I really did not know how I would have managed all by myself.
"Don't mention it, girlfriend, I know how you feel," she said smiling from the corner of her lip.
"Is that a smile?" I asked a little surprised because she seemed mad at me some moment ago.
"Whatever girl, I'm not smiling because of you," she told me, but rather in a joking manner, still with a smile on her lips.
"Now for real, you're smiling, does that mean you're no longer angry with me?" I asked trying to tease her, I am feeling happy myself for seeing Alex awake and eating too, that I forgot I was angry some minutes ago.
"Kim, I'm not angry with you I'm only angry at your action, and besides I can't stay mad at you for too long you know that, don't you?" she said and asked, looking at me briefly and then, continues to feed Alex.
"Thank you for everything, Vicky," I told her feeling very grateful to have her as a friend, despite our disagreement sometimes, I know that she cares about me and my kids.
"Thank you for what?" she asked, rolling her eyes a little playfully at me, I guess she is feeling very excited seeing Alex like this again.
"You know what I'm thanking you for," I said smiling too, pulling a chair close so that I can sit beside her.
"You don't have to thank me, Kim, they are my kids too, remember?" Vicky asked and continue to feed Alex.
"We love you, Aunty Vicky," Sandra said, smiling sweetly at Vicky.
"Did you hear that, Kim?" She asked, winking an eye to me, Alex smiled too at Sandra's statement, in agreement I believe.
"Oh..., what about me?" I asked, looking from Sandra to Alex, pretending to be getting a little jealous.
"We love you too, Mummy..." Sandra told me, spreading her arms apart to give me a hug.
"I love you too, sweeties," I said giving Sandra a peck, and then, standing up briefly to peck Alex too.
"I love you too, my little pumpkins," Vicky told them, patting their cheeks.
"Can we go home now Mummy?" Sandra asked after I sat down again.
"Yes, sweetie, we are going home when the morning comes," I replied her after glancing at Vicky.
"Yeah," Sandra said feeling very excited, "I can't wait to leave her Mummy, I have missed playing with my toys," Sandra said, jiggling a little.
"I want to play with my toys too, Mummy," Alex said too with food in his mouth.
"Look who's talking about playing with his toys, you are just recovering Alex," I told him playfully, "You didn't even ask how you got to be here, and you are talking about playing with toys," I told him playfully too.
"Aunty Vicky already told me about it, Mum, when I first woke up, you weren't here then, she said you went out with some people," Alex said to me, it felt nice listening to his little voice again.
"And Aunty Vicky already said that she is going to buy us lots of toys after we leave here," Sandra added.
"You are going to play with your toys but not yet, Sweetie," I said to Alex, "you don't have to tire yourself out just yet, the doctor said, you need to get enough rest, that way you can recover completely," I told him.
"But I feel fine, Mummy," Alex said getting a little upset, "I should not have gone after my balloon if I knew this would happen to me," Alex said frowning at me.
"What?" I asked, surprised, I think Vicky feel the same way.
"You remembered how you got into the accident?" I asked rather calmly still surprised at the memory of this three-year-old.
"Yes, Mummy," Alex replied, nodding his head a little.
"Oh my goodness, you remembered, Alex?" Vicky asked sounding surprised as well.
"Yes I do remember, aunty Vicky, my balloon suddenly slipped out of my finger and just as I went to get it, a car came from nowhere, I didn't see the car mummy, I would have run out of the road like a Superman, I'm so sorry, Mummy, please don't stop me from playing with my toys, I won't do that again, I will look properly next time," Alex said pleadingly to me.
"Oh no, sweetie," I cried, covering my lips with my palms, he did remember, I said within me marvelled at my son, Vicky looks from me to Alex.
"It is okay, baby, mum is going to let you play with your toys, at least the ones that won't let you tire yourself out for now," Vicky told him, gesturing for me to say something.
"Yes, sweetie, only if you promise not to exhaust yourself while playing," I told him, Doctor Sam already told me to watch over him so that he won't do something too exhausting, I guess I will need to stay by him whenever he plays so that he won't exhaust himself so much until he recovers completely.
"Yeah..., thanks Mummy," Alex shouted for joy even though not as loud as it would have been if he were not in this situation, Sandra joined him too, I can feel and see their excitement, thank goodness my kids are going to be alright again, I said to within me.
"Okay, pumpkin, it's time to finish your food," Vicky told him.
"What's wrong, Jimmy?" Vicky asked as Jimmy stepped into the ward.
"Is there a problem, Jimmy? I asked him too, he is looking worried, I don't think it's because of our argument earlier.
"Hello, Champ, you are awake," Jimmy said to Alex, patting him on the head briefly, and then Sandra's check as well.
"I saw Sonia and Brian, Kyle's older brother, walking into the hospital with Kyle in a stretcher immediately after you left," Jimmy said turning to me and Vicky, "he doesn't seem good, I wonder what is wrong with him, but to me, he needs urgent medical attention," he added.
"Seriously?" Vicky asked sounding a little troubled and I am wondering why?
"Is that why you are looking so worried?" I asked, getting a little surprised by his reaction, and Vicky's too.
"Oh stop it, Kim, is it not enough to be worried seeing him brought into a hospital like that? He was alright a few hours ago, are you not bothered at all?" Jimmy asked.
"And why should I be bothered? maybe it is his evil did that caught up with him," I told Jimmy in return.
"Are you being..."
"Oh, not here, Jimmy, " I said lifting my hand to stop him from speaking further, gesturing at my kids so that he will stop talking.
"You know what? Suit yourself, I only came to give you a piece of information, I thought you would want to hear it, but it is obvious your mind is made up, I only hope you will not regret this later on, not for you but for..." Jimmy said and stopped himself from speaking further immediately, he went to sit down on a chair close to the door, after I shot him an angry glance, my heart skipped because I knew what he was about to say next, and knowing my kids and how inquisitive they can be, It would not have gone down well with me at all, from the look on their faces they are already wondering what this is all about, I know they have never seen me and their Uncle Jimmy like this before.
I braced myself again after almost being busted so that I can talk to Jimmy privately away from my kids, I need to tell him to keep this whole daddy thing away from my kids but before I could say anything else to Jimmy the door to Alex's ward swung open, and Sonia walked right in looking so furious.
"What has she come to do here?" I asked within me...
