I close my mouth, realizing it was still open. "A house..." I say again. It’s too good to be true. I didn't mind the apartment at all. I was already planning on turning my room into the baby’s room, and now that wasn't necessary.
"Do you want to go see it?" Evans asks me.
I nodded. "Yes."
He stands up and reaches for my coat. "Come on," he says, opening it up. He puts on me and then we head back outside. We get in the car and I look out the window, anxiously, wanting to see the house. This was too much. It was a house...for me and Evans and our baby...
I place my hands on my belly and rub it. It has become a habit of mine. I like to think that the baby can tell how much we love him by doing that. It's like telling him that I know he's there and I can't wait to hold him.
The neighborhood that Evans drives to is beautiful. All the houses there are so pretty, and I look at each one we pass, guessing which might be the one. The car finally stops, and I get out, impatiently.
"This is it?" I ask Evans,staring at the house in front of me.
Evans nods. "It is."
It is a two-story white house. The front door is brown and there is a window on each side. There are windows on the second floor as well, with a small one in the middle. There is a big, beautiful green tree outside.
Evans reaches for my hand when I don't move and starts walking. There is a step before reaching the front door. I give Evans the key, knowing my hand is probably shaking. He unlocks it and then steps to the side. I walk in slowly.
The first thing I notice is the beautiful white staircase. To the right is the living room and to the left is the kitchen and dining room. There is a hallway that goes down next to the stairs. There is a beautiful wooden, shiny floor.
"There’s furniture?" I ask Evans, confused.
He looks a little embarrassed. "I've had this house for about a month now. I've been adding some furniture; you know, the basics."
I put my arms around him and hide my face in his chest. "I'm sorry," I say when I realize I'm crying. I look up at him. "I just...Thank you," I say as I hug him again.
"Oh, Ciara." He puts his arms around me.
My big belly makes it hard for me to press myself as close to him as possible. I don't know why I feel so emotional.
"You are about to make me a dad," Evans says as he runs his hand through my hair. "You have given me more than you can imagine."
His words only make me cry even harder. After a moment, I force myself to stop crying and I look up at him. He reaches out and wipes my face with his hands. I sniff as I smile at him. "I never thought being this happy was possible."
"Believe me, me either." His hands drop to my belly and he kneels in front of me. I reach out and run my hand through his soft hair. He leans in and begins to kiss my belly, making me laugh. "I can't wait to have you in my arms..." he whispers. The baby flutters, hearing his father's voice. Evans laughs as he kisses my belly again. He stands back up and puts his arms around me. "I love you, Ciara"
I smile as I trace his face with the back of my hand. His forehead, his cheeks, his perfect straight nose, his strong jawline, his chin, his lips. "I love you, Evans," I whisper and then reach up and kiss him.
I had never been so happy in my life; my face hurting from smiling too much. The crazy part is, I know the best is yet to come. In less than two months, we'll have our baby boy with us, and I can’t wait.
