Sydney Marin Chapter 35

“Hey wait for me. What happened to others?” Leona appeared all of a sudden in her vampire speed. “Everyone’s gone in different ways,” Noah said with irritation. “It’s okay. We can move on. Time is running,” Jacen said, and we walked in the forest, following the arrow mark on the trees. “Don’t you think we are going on forever,” Leona exhausted said cause there’re no problems or obstacles at all. The only difficulty is walking for miles. My legs hurt. “I think the King is scaring us simply without a single problem,” I let out those words with frustration. Walking in the middle of the forest at midnight doesn’t make me feel afraid, but... “Speaking of problems, here it is,” Jacen said, and everyone stopped walking. I looked up to see we can’t walk further. Because there’s a maze in the middle of the forest. The walls are so big, I can’t even see where it ends. It looks like it goes on forever without an end. “Do we really need to enter the Maze?” I questioned. I don’t want to enter here and get lost. Then I can’t able to reach the destination. “I will see where it ends,” Jacen said, and disappeared through the right side of the wall. Noah went to the left side. “If this is the only choice, we need to go for it,” Leona said without waiting for them to return. “Let’s hope there will be any other way.” Jacen and Noah will come up with an idea, I guess. When they returned, I asked if there’s any other way, but they simply shrugged their shoulders. “I told you so. We need to go for it,” Leona says. Fine. Iam not afraid of it. “Let’s go,” I walked towards the entrance before anyone took a single step. I didn’t see whether they were coming behind me or not, but I heard Jacen’s voice when Iam about to enter the maze. “Move, Sydney,” He shouted. I didn’t understand why he’s shouting. Iam too perplexed and shocked to react. Suddenly someone pushed me to the ground with quick reflex. I heard a gun sound as I hit hard on the ground. A gun shot. Did someone try to kill me? I opened my eyes to see Issac who saved me coming from nowhere. “Seriously, it’s a game. You are not supposed to kill anyone,” Noah yelled, and I can only see the shape of a girl with a gun in her hand in the dark. She stepped closer, and that’s no one but Cassie. Who will have an intention of killing me than her? “You are not the only one with the gun.” Jacen raised his gun and could pull the trigger at any moment. “Iam fine, Jacen. Drop the gun. We are not here to fight her.” I stood up and stopped him. I should have let him continue. But Iam not going to involve him in this. If she hates me more, that’s my fault. I blurted about her mother. That’s the only mistake I made. “You can’t kill me. Iam the princess. You will be dead, boy.” Cassie laughed wickedly in the dark. I could stop her laughter and turn into pain at any moment, but I preferred to stay away right now. For now. “Even if Iam dead, I don’t care. At least I could kill you.” Jacen stepped forward in anger. “No, No, No Jacen. Calm down. She’s distracting us. We need to enter the maze.” I pushed him backwards and made him look into my eyes. “Are you okay now? I dodged the bullet. Nothing to worry about.” I said, looking right through his eyes. He didn’t calm down at a moment. His heart beat faster. I can feel this chest raise up and down from my touch. Finally, he’s back to a normal state. “She left. She went inside the maze. It’s getting late,” Issac impatiently said. “Yeah. We are coming and thank you for saving me.” I thanked him for feeling grateful for it. “You’re welcome, but I didn’t even know you were in trouble. I used a portal to reach here and come out of it. That’s how I saved you. Anyway, it all goes well,” Issac said, rubbing the dirt away from his shirt. “For god’s sake. Iam saved.” I let out a sigh of relief and finally, we all are in the maze. But there are two sides. “Iam choosing to go on the left side. Are you coming?” Issac asked. We all can’t go on the same side. I can choose another path. “Iam coming,” Leona went, and both vanished from our side. “I guess we need to take this path,” Noah said, and we started walking. I have no idea where it will go. We three are walking all alone here. We took the steps which go down under the ground. I lifted my hands to produce some blue light from my power to get away from darkness. All the sound I can hear is our footsteps. Suddenly, I heard someone screaming. I looked at Jacen and Noah, who were acting totally normal. “Didn’t you guys hear any scream?” I asked in confusion. “Nope. What do you hear?” Jacen asked, and I listened to the scream. “Ahhhhhh. Someone help me, please,” I can surely tell that’s Leona’s voice. I know that her voice. But she went in another way. The voice, the same repeated lines getting louder and louder till it hurts my ears. “What’s wrong, Baby? We are not hearing anything.” Jacen asked me but his voice was much lower to me. All I can hear is Leona’s voice. “Leona is in trouble,” I told them and started walking to the way I came. Jacen grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him. “No, the maze will trick you. You don’t know that.” he consulted me but I can’t believe it. “We are vampires. We can’t hear a single voice, Sydney. This is all in your head,” Noah said. But this noise makes me doubt it. What if Leona’s in trouble? I know Issac is with her. But this sound is stressing me to go back the way I entered here. “Iam going,” I yelled and pushed Jacen away and ran. I need to find or the voice won’t stop. I can’t tell if it’s a trick. Suddenly, I felt something coming right for my head. Before I can turn, Jacen’s hands pulled me towards him and the voice stopped. The pain stopped. “I told you it’s a mind game. You would be dead right now,” Jacen scolded me, holding a double-headed axe with one hand. It came from the wall when I ran. I would have died. “Iam sorry. Leona’s screaming stressed me to run.” I muttered and looked at his hands. Blood is flowing from his palm as he holds the Axe tightly.
