"You are despicable, Sonia, what do you gain by being mean to others?" I asked pausing by her car outside, I've seen her a couple of times being mean and rude to others before when we were still friends and I used to think that that's because she's defending herself from being bullied by others especially those times when we were still kids, and I admired her for being strong...
"So this is why you asked your mum to call me here, Kyle," Sonia said instead, ignoring my question, "You asked your mum to call me here to release that woman after seeing what she did to me, well, thank goodness, your mum is not like you, that woman is going to apologise to me before I let her go, I'll make sure of that."
"You deserved whatever she did to you, Sonia, you were rude to her, and if anyone deserves an apology, it should be her," I told her.
"What, are you being serious with me?" She asked angrily, "You mean I should go and apologise to that woman after being slapped by her, you must be out of your mind," she said fuming with anger.
"You know what, get in the car," she said.
"What?" I asked, angry at how she spoke to me.
"I said get in the car, Kyle, or I'll go tell mum you are not interested in us going to release that woman," she said, furrowing her brows at me, she acts like she's very angry, and I am wondering why, I shoud be the angry one here not the other way around.
"I won't have to repeat myself, Kyle," she snapped.
I glared at her for a second before getting into her car, "gosh, she can be so annoying," I said within me, feeling very angry right now, I just can't stand her.
"Excuse me," she said as she entered the car as well on the driver's seat.
"What? What is it?" I yelled.
"Why are you yelling, Kyle?" She asked angrily turning to face me, "If you yell at me one more time I'll be forced to go in there and tell mum am no longer interested in going to the police station." She threatened me.
"You won't do such a thing, Sonia, you can't go and tell mum that, I mean, you won't go back on her instruction," I told her.
"Are you trying to dare me, Kyle? You should know better, what I am capable of," she said.
I clenched my fist, tightening my jaw muscles and I feel a wave of anger sweep through me, I just stared at her not willing to argue any further with her.
"I take your silence as a no then, Kyle," she added when I said nothing.
"What are we still waiting for?" I asked rather calmly, doing my best to control my temper.
"Waiting for you," she replied.
"Waiting for me?" I asked, feeling a little confused, I am already seated in the car, and she's telling me that she's waiting for me, "I do not understand, Sonia, how do you mean, you are waiting for me?"
"You are seated at the back seat, Kyle, you should seat next to me, I am your fiancée, not your driver," she snapped, "How can you be seated there and expect me to drive, what will people think? What if pictures of us are being taken when we arrive at the police station? Come on, Kyle, that won't be good for my image, and yours too,"
"That's none of my concerns right now, so just drive," I told her in response, I think that's all she cares about, herself.
"I'm not moving this car, Kyle, until you come to sit next to me," she said without looking at me this time, I think her mind is made up, and I don't want to be the reason for Kimberly to be in a police cell any longer.
"Fine," I said in clenched teeth, trying to keep my voice down as I opened the car door.
"Can we go now?" I asked, now sitting next to her in front of the car.
"Seat belt," she said in reply instead, glancing at me, I just slipped the seat belt around me without a word to her, I just wish this journey ends as soon as it begins because seating beside Sonia seems like punishment to me, she slipped her seat belt on too before driving off.
"Believe it or not, Kyle, I care about you," she said as soon as she started driving, "I still don't know why you stopped caring about me, you used to, what changed?" She said and asked.
The soft manner in which she spoke to me now made me glance at her briefly, but I shook my head almost immediately, I shouldn’t let myself be deceived by her now, I know her better than this, I told myself.
"Tell me, Kyle," she said when I did not respond to her question.
"Look, Sonia, am not in the mood for this," I replied, looking out of the window.
"When will you ever have time for this? For me, Kyle?" She asked, and I think I heard traces of pain in her voice, but I'm still not going to be fooled by that either, I used to be moved whenever she sounded like this in the past when we were still friends, but I think I know better now.
I still remember how things began to change between us, I had seen Sonia as a friend, only a friend, I told her almost everything that concerns me, and we were carrying on well, but I started noticing some odd behavior about her when I told her that I think am in love with someone else.
"Answer me, Kyle," she said again when I did not respond.
"I will never have time for this because I do not see you that way, Sonia, I have never thought of us being together and I never will, so the sooner you understand that the better for you, stop wasting your time and move on," I told her.
"Why, Kyle? I see you as a man, I have always seen you as a man, even from when we were still kids," she told me, "Didn't you ever notice? Didn’t you notice how I get when I see other girls around you then in school?" She asked, and I can still recall a few of such occasions, even after we have become grownups, only I never took it to mean anything not until I fell in love with Kimberly for real, did I begin to see her true self, I never told her Kimberly's name then because I didn’t get to know her name, not until now.
"Keep your eyes on the road, Sonia," I told her instead, seeing how she looks at me.
"Answer me, Kyle, did you not notice even once?" She snapped, her voice becoming the way I know it now to be, she pulled over, bringing the car to an abrupt stop.
"No, Sonia, not even once," I replied her rather calmly, without looking at her, good thing we had our seat belts on, this would have been a disaster coupled with my body condition right now.
"Well, now you have known, you should give your heart to me and let everything go back as it where, we used to be a nice pair, we can as well be that way again," she said after a while, before starting the car again to continue the journey.
"I already told you that will never happen, Sonia,"
"Whether you accept it or not, Kyle, I'll always be in your life," Sonia said...
