Sold as Slave Chapter 91

Third Person’s POV Lawrence was correct. He was absolutely certain that Agatha would return after meeting Lanceil. And she did. Lawrence observed her lifelessly getting into the car, noticing her teary eyes. 'At least my fiancée isn't foolish enough to run into that man's arms,' he thought as he gazed at her. After a moment of silence, Lawrence spoke up. "Now that your business here is finished, should I take you to Brett’s house?" Her eyes widened in surprise. "Y-You..." She stuttered with suspicion. "Yes, it was me who informed Lanceil about everything," Lawrence admitted. Agatha had a feeling that it was Lawrence who had told Lanceil the truth. Strangely, she couldn't bring herself to feel sorry for the stubborn man who always claimed to be her future husband. In her eyes, he was a villain. But he wasn't like that anymore. Unexpectedly, a faint smile appeared on Agatha’s lips, catching Lawrence off guard. 'She's smiling?' he thought, taken aback by her response. Lawrence took a moment to gather his thoughts before speaking up, "Are you mad at me?" He braced himself for her anger, fully expecting to be despised once again, even though his intentions were good. He was prepared for her to glare at him, shout, or even curse him. He had made a promise to himself that he wouldn't flinch, even if she cried and begged in front of him. However, none of that happened. To his surprise, she didn't act like the brokenhearted woman he had imagined in his mind. "No, I believe you did the right thing," she whispered, fidgeting with her fingers in her lap. Lawrence glanced at her fingers and then shifted his curious gaze back to her profile. "It would have been difficult for me to speak the truth anyway. I'm grateful that someone did it for me, even if it makes me feel like a coward." Agatha found herself caught in a state of confusion, unable to feel either sadness or happiness. She was stuck in the middle, struggling to choose the appropriate emotion for the situation. Surprisingly, Lawrence felt the same way. He couldn't quite understand why he felt both pleased and disheartened by the fact that she had ended her relationship with Lanceil. There were two things he knew for certain: he wanted to hold her hand and embrace her in his arms. He wouldn't apologize, but he could whisper words like, ‘No matter what happens, I will always be by your side.’ But he failed to fulfill the desires of his heart. The power of emotion is undeniable. However, the mind has the ability to control the body. What happens when the heart and mind clash? It's a catastrophe. The conflict brought immense pain to him, and in the end, he pathetically wished it was all just a dream. He decided to become a Lucid dreamer, so he could explore his wildest imaginations with Agatha. "Good. I'm glad you understand that I made the right choice. It's morally wrong to date someone while being engaged," he said. Finally, the glare he had been anticipating came from Agatha's direction. "I already told you, I'm not your fiancée," Agatha stated. A smile appeared on his thin lips. He actually appreciates her resistance to accepting affection from a man. It means he doesn't have to worry about her finding another reason to call off the wedding. But then, he remembered the other wolves circling around her like hungry beasts. If there's even a small gap in the trap Lawrence set, they would pounce on the lady. So, he made up his mind to construct a sturdy barrier this time. "This engagement has your father's approval. He entrusted you to me," he pointed out. Lawrence shut his eyes and folded his arms, showing no sign of wanting to hear any objections from her. “Why are you so fixated on this outdated tradition?” She taunted. 'Fixated?! Me?!' Her comment made him open his eyes again. He unfolded his arms and replied, "I'M NOT FIXATED. I AM JUST LOYAL TO MY OATH." She scoffed quietly, "Yeah, right." Agatha rolled her eyes and continued, "You know, it's not that difficult to keep your word. And it's only natural to want to marry someone you truly care about. There's no financial gain for you in marrying me, so why even bother?" "Can't you see that I'm just trying to do the right thing? I don't have any romantic feelings for you, and I won't benefit from marrying you. But I'm willing to take that chance." "Oh, please," she teased as she looked him up and down. "I sometimes wonder what goes on in that head of yours. Your logic is definitely one of a kind." "I wouldn't mind exploring my own thoughts as well," Lawrence replied with a shrug. Agatha realized she was wasting her energy. After a quick click of her tongue, she gazed out the car window, only to accidentally catch a glimpse of Lanceil’s condo unit. Instantly, all the pain she had been feeling came rushing back. Her heart raced and her breathing became shallow. However… 'I've chosen a path with no turning back,' she whispered to herself before turning her gaze back to the road ahead. She was now focused on her future, while the man beside her seemed to look at her as if she was his future. Lawrence's secretary, seated in front of the steering wheel, observed the two through the rearview mirror. As she watched Lawrence, she couldn't help but think, 'He claims he has no feelings for her. But every time he looks at her, it's clear he feels something.'
