Sold as Slave Chapter 80

Third Person’s POV It was well past midnight, and Mikhail found himself unable to sleep. He couldn't help but keep glancing at the clock, hoping that sleep would finally take hold of him. However, every time he thought about his conversation with Agatha earlier, it felt as though he had consumed an entire gallon of coffee. Frustration welled up inside him, and he cursed at himself under his breath. ‘Sh*t." He couldn't understand what had possessed him to confess his lingering love for Agatha. The courage he had summoned in that moment now seemed foolish and reckless. Mikhail let out a heavy sigh as he glanced at his phone, hoping to see a message from Agatha. Disappointingly, there was nothing. “No message at all.” Despite receiving multiple messages from other women vying for his attention, he only had eyes for Agatha. He had reached out to her, and now he anxiously awaited her response. A wave of doubt washed over him, and he muttered to himself, "As if Agatha would ever come back to me." With a heavy heart, he rose from his seat, feeling a sudden thirst that needed quenching. He made his way towards the kitchen, but as he walked, he could faintly hear his father's voice echoing in the distance. "He's still awake? That's strange. Father usually goes to sleep before 9pm," Mikhail pondered silently. Curiosity propelled him forward, drawing him closer to the source of the noise. As he approached, he caught sight of his father standing by the window in the empty hallway. His dad was the catalyst for the downfall of Agatha's family business. They had once been allies, but he had abruptly betrayed Agatha's father. Naturally, Mikhail harbored a deep resentment towards him for ruining his relationship with the woman he loved. It was a mixture of guilt and fear that compelled Mikhail to end things with her. Perhaps, deep down, he couldn't fully despise his father, which led him to choose the painful path. "Did I hear correctly? Mr. Grim?" His father whispered. Peeking discreetly, Mikhail realized that his father was engaged in a phone conversation. "Mr. Grim? Who could that be? Perhaps someone from his workplace," Mikhail speculated. Afraid to interrupt his important conversation, he decided to go away. "Your assassin failed to kill my son's ex-girlfriend?! I thought he's skilled in that area?" But his father’s next word made his feet stop. He held his breath as he looked back again at his father. "How could she escaped? Well, forget it. There must be another way to finish her.” Mikhail’s hands trembled. He bit his lower lip until he could taste his own blood as his insides churned up and down. Even if Mikhail knew that it is impossible for him to have Agatha again, he still had this slight hope that they can be together in the future. However, tonight shattered all of those dreams. His learned that his father did not only cause Agatha’s family’ business to fail. But he also wanted to kill her. It was a revelation that would change his life forever. ** ** After finishing his bath, Lawrence positioned himself in front of the enormous mirror, gazing intently at his own reflection. His striking features possessed an undeniable allure that could captivate anyone who laid eyes upon him. However, Lawrence found himself engulfed in a state of perplexity. "I simply cannot comprehend it," he muttered, his hand gently stroking his chin. "I am undeniably handsome. Why is it that this woman cannot simply fall in love with me?" No matter how hard he attempted to charm Agatha, she remained as unyielding as a solid rock. Lawrence was resolute in his desire to marry her, as he had made a promise to her father. Yet, Agatha proved to be an elusive target. Furthermore, she seemed to actively avoid his presence. "Is she still angry with me?" Lawrence pondered aloud. Ever since he had revealed his status as her fiancé, Agatha had ceased attending their nightly review class. Suddenly, the sound of his phone ringing interrupted his thoughts. Draped in a luxurious silk red bathrobe, he reached for his phone. A frown creased his face when he saw the caller ID. Why would Brett, the individual who had purchased Agatha, be calling him? Could it be work-related? Intrigued, Lawrence answered the call. "Good day, Mr. Holmes. May I inquire as to why you have suddenly contacted me?" he asked curiously. "This pertains to Agatha, your fiancée," Brett responded. At the mention of her name, Lawrence's posture straightened. He remained silent, patiently awaiting Brett's explanation. "I believe you are already aware of my connection with that woman. Therefore, I won't bore you with the details.” With how Lawrence reached out to Brett, it was obvious for Brett that it was intentional. Brett knew that from the beginning, Lawrence was aware of the deal Agatha and he had. “I actually like honest person,” Lawrence said. “If only you didn’t buy my fiancée by paying her loans, I might have really go with doing business with you.” “Unfortunately, I also have no will to continue our transaction,” Brett said. “Anyway, I have important news to say. Agatha was kidnapped.” The smile on Lawrence’s lips had vanished as he continued to listen. “I feel obligated to inform you that she was abducted and she almost got herself killed. Thankfully, we managed to rescue her, and she is now safe," Brett revealed. Lawrence's heart raced as he imagined the terror Agatha must have endured. He despised himself for his helplessness, forced to merely listen to the aftermath of the situation. Lawrence felt like a mother bird who had abandoned her chicks in the nest, only to return and find the tree destroyed by a storm. He believed it was his duty to keep her safe. Gripping his phone tightly, Lawrence posed a question, "What do you expect me to do? Are you asking me to locate the kidnapper? To assist you and ensure her safety?" "No. My request is quite simple." "What is it?" "I will disclose everything I know about Agatha and myself. And all you need to do is... relay EVERYTHING TO LANCEIL."
