Sold as Slave Chapter 98

Third Person’s POV Vincent wanted to meet Agatha and talked. What would he say? He was uncertain about what to say when he finally met Agatha. Most importantly, he wanted to express his apologies for everything. However, the following morning, instead of Agatha, it was his ex-brother-in-law, Brett, who showed up to meet him. "Hey, Vincent," Brett greeted. Vincent felt his chest tighten as he struggled to keep his emotions in check. His history with Brett was strained, to say the least. The fact that Brett harbored feelings for Olive, Lanceil's deceased wife and also his own stepsister, only added fuel to the fire. Brett's words echoed in Vincent's mind, "Our last conversation didn't go well." It was a bitter pill to swallow when Vincent discovered that his own father was responsible for Agatha's father's death and had even attempted to kill her. It felt like a cruel twist of fate for loving the wrong woman. "I used Agatha to get close to Lanceil, that's the truth," Brett confessed. "But my true motive was to uncover the truth behind my sister's death." Vincent was speechless this time. He noticed more proof that Brett's sister didn't commit suicide. "Vincent, I can tell we're on the same page. You wouldn't have left home if you didn't have some suspicions," Brett insisted. Vincent bit his lip firmly. Guilt washed over him once more, burdening his heart. "Vincent, stop blaming yourself," Brett urged. As Vincent gazed slowly at Brett, tears streamed down his face. "I know you've been avoiding me because you're still carrying that guilt, Vincent." Vincent hung his head low, watching as tears fell onto his lap. His hands shook, and even breathing felt like a struggle. "Olive didn't die because of you," Brett whispered. "She didn't die because you introduced her to your brother. So instead of blaming yourself, help me." Vincent lifted his head and met Brett’s gaze. ** *** ** Lawrence is currently working on the case to prove Agatha's father's innocence. In addition, Brett managed to gain Vincent Grim's support. Sitting in his office, Brett reminisced about the favor he had asked his former brother-in-law. "There's a hidden room in the wine cellar of your house. I believe your father is keeping something there." "A hidden room?" Vincent exclaimed. He stared at the space, lost in thought. 'Didn't my sister-in-law go to our wine cellar before she died?' Vincent wondered to himself. Before Olive's death, the maid of the Grim mansion mentioned that she had gone to the house to retrieve her husband's favorite wine. Afterward, she returned home and took her own life. "We couldn't enter because there's a password on the door," Brett explained further. "That's why I need your help..." He grasped Vincent's hands and pleaded, "Please, help me uncover the truth behind my sister's death." Brett let out a heavy sigh. It feels like the chase is finally coming to an end. But there's this strange feeling nagging at him. Despite having Agatha by their side and ensuring her safety, he can't shake off the anxiety. It's like a storm is brewing, waiting to strike as they uncover the truth. Knock. Knock. Putting down the pen he was fiddling with, Brett turned his attention to the closed door where the sound came from. "Come in," he called out, assuming it was the maid. To his relief, it was indeed the maid. "Good day, sir. You have a visitor." A visitor? Lawrence and Adam were the only ones staying in his house at the moment. So who could it be? Vincent? Lanceil? "Who is it?" Brett inquired. “His name is Wayne Jetts, Sir.” Wayne Jetts. This isn’t the first time he heard the name. “He said he is Mr. Lanceil’s driver.” When the maid mentioned that, Brett didn't hesitate to let him in. The maid guided him to the living room as a guest, where they served him juice and biscuits to show our hospitality. However, Brett noticed that Wayne never touched the food or drank his juice. It seems like he doesn't trust the people around him easily. "Lanceil's driver, right?" Brett finally broke the silence. Wayne lifted his head and met his gaze. "Nice to meet you, Sir Brett." "What do you want from me?" Wayne placed an envelope on the center table. I looked at it and soon reached out to grab it. "It's been almost years since the GhiY96 plane crashed," Wayne said, breaking the silence. Brett's grip tightened on the documents as he looked at Wayne. "Actually, my whole family also died in that accident," Wayne continued, his voice filled with sorrow. Brett felt a sudden connection with Wayne. He understood the pain of losing loved ones in a tragedy. He was all ears, ready to listen to what Wayne had to say. "I'm here to share some information that I've gathered," Wayne offered. Brett couldn't help but ask, "Why would you do that? Why would you help me? Information doesn't come for free." Wayne looked at Brett with determination. "You're Lanceil's brother-in-law. Your sister's sudden death must have left you wanting revenge. We share the same goal." Brett tore  the envelope and scanned the documents inside. Wayne watched as Brett's expression changed while he read through the papers. "What's all this?" Brett muttered. "It's a list of the people who perished in the plane crash. That includes your parents and my family." Brett's eyes widened as he saw his parents' names on the list. "Did you notice that almost all of the deceased passengers had insurance with the same company?" Brett examined the paper closely, his eyes widening as he turned to the next page. "T-This..." he stammered, looking back at Wayne. "Exactly. Nearly everyone on that plane had an F.R.O insurance account, including your parents. F.R.O is Grim Enterprises' ally and competitor. I believe this incident was deliberate. They're using it to target F.R.O." Brett tightly gripped the papers in his hands. He couldn't fathom the fact that his foster parents, who treated him like their own, were taken away from him just to satisfy the greed of those in power. "After my investigation, it seems that only two passengers went missing. The pilot's body and..." He paused for a moment, speaking in a hushed tone, "my mother's." Running his fingers through his golden hair, Brett leaned back on the couch and let out a deep breath. "Did you really work as Lanceil's driver just to uncover this information that I couldn't?" Wayne nodded in response. "There was one thing that gave me a lead. Mr. Holmes, do you remember another person who was on the plane? The one who made it look like an accident." Brett recalled the person Wayne was referring to, and his mouth fell open in disbelief.
