PAY ZANE A VISIT
Rita’s POV
It was Evelyn; I heaved a sigh of relief, somehow I thought it was Finn because he visited me last weekend.
“Hello Bestie” Evelyn jumped into my arms.
“Hi Evelyn” I responded sheepishly disengaging myself from her.
“Why do you still look surprised to see me here, I already informed you earlier when I was at the nearest junction” She said.
“You didn't inform me that you were already at the nearest junction, I thought you’ld arrive later in the day” I replied.
My phone buzzed, it was Zane.
He called to ask of who visited me.
“It was Evelyn, I didn't know she will be here so soon. Talk to you later my love" We disconnected the call.
“I’m guessing, you just finished speaking with Zane” Evelyn chipped in.
“Of course, who else? We were gonna converse all day but looks like your presence here has disrupted our plan” I told her.
“Oh sorry. I should not be here too but Adam’s out. I don't know where he went to and besides, it’s been a while I came over to your place. You don't have to worry, I will leave soon” She promised.
“I see. Make yourself comfortable after all, you’re already familiar with the kitchen and lucky you, I visited the grocery store recently”
“Very lucky me” She chuckled, moving towards the refrigerator and returned with some snacks, a bottle of juice and a glass.
“Lucky indeed” I smirked: “You really don't know what you have done wrong, just because your boyfriend is not around, you don't want me to be with mine”
“Ugh Rita! Why are you bringing it up again? I thought I already apologised and it’s all over” She said, serving herself a glass of juice.
I sighed: “I am just a little upset. We won't be having our lone moment”
“Uhm, you’re obsessed with him” She peered into my eyes.
“Yes! Yes! I won't deny that fact. I love Zane so much”
She smiled: “When last did you your momma call you?”
“Hmmmn, some days ago. Why do you ask?”
“Err… uhm, I have a ity-bity confession” She stuttered a bit.
“What is it? wait! did you do anything stupid again? I swear, I won't forgive you this time!” I voiced.
“Come on, calm down Rita. Relax” She rolled her eyes then continued: “ Uhm, do you know that your mom told me to make sure that you find a man before summer comes to an end?”
“She did!” I exclaimed.
“Yeah and that is exactly why I pestered the hell outta you and say those mean annoying stuff a long time ago “ She divulged.
I opened my mouth in awe and repeated: “My mom actually told you do so?”
“Yup! You think I will badger and pester you for no reason? Ugh! No! I would rather watch you fall in love whenever you want even as a grandwoman or grand lady rather. And my kids and I will definitely attend your wedding ceremony” She said laughing hysterically and I scorned at her.“Well, your momma called and I answered. So I did what I had to do and that included texting Janet Johnson to get you someone, and currently, you are addicted to Zane” She elated and I blushed secretly.
“So don't you ever ever blame me for whatever happens between you and Zane!” She warned and rolled my eyes.
“Shhh, Zane and I, together forever; I will wait for him no matter what” I told her.
“Does your mom know about Zane?” Evelyn asked.
“Yeah! But she doesn't know it's an online relationship stuff so please, do not tell her I signed up for this” I pleaded.
“You can count on me. I will just confirm to her that I know you’ve settled into a serious relationship that will most definitely lead to marriage”
“Good, good. I know my parents would wanna meet Zane face to face very soon. As for me, I can wait. Love is wait, isn’t it?”
Evelyn concurred, nodding her head.
“But you know Rita, you can go to Zane” Evelyn suggested.
“What did you say?” I didn't hear her right.
“C’mon. Zane is in Canada, you can go pay him a visit. A surprise visit will even be more romantic” She said.
“Oh My God” I exclaimed softly. “ I have always been thinking he will be the one to come over here since he’s actually based in this city. Why did I ever not think of going to him instead?” I questioned myself, beaming steadily. “But.. but what about work?”
“Ever took Leave Of Absence?” She asked and I shook my head.
“There have never been a tangible reason to sacrifice my work for an absence leave” I told her.
“Oh well, that was then. Now there is Zane in Canada! C’mon we are talking about your man here! You don't even know precisely when next you will see him if you do not visit him now”
I nodded continuously in agreement.
“You have a great point Evelyn. This is a splendid suggestion” I embraced her excitedly.
“”I have got the international passport, my portfolios and other international necessary details. I should apply for the visa ticket to Canada” I was so delighted.
“And when you get to Canada, you lodge into the nearest hotel. Then you call Zane, ask him for his address or even better still, say he’s got a parcel from you to pick up at the motel and then boom! You both will finally meet. Oh My God! This is so romantic, bet it the night will be so so great and fantastic” Evelyn cheered and suddenly kept quiet when I shot her a glare.
“Evelyn, there is much more to do when you are just meeting your partner for the very first time rather than s*x” I said, pretending not to admit to what she meant.
“Uhm, I did not mention s*x. A fantastic night could be a night date, or like an elaborate celebration with just both of you. It doesn't have to be s*x” She twisted her words, made me look like the bad girl.
“Yup! Now I agree!” I responded in a awkward manner.
“ You should send an email to Mr Finn, requesting for a leave of absence. I know he will definitely grant you the permission because of two main reasons. One, it is your first time you are taking a break from work, secondly, Finn loves you and so he will do anything to make you happy” She said.
“Evelyn! Don't talk about Finn’s love for me whatsoever. It would only make me feel pity for him yet there’s nothing I can do about it” I cautioned her.
“Roger that!"
“Now continue”
“While waiting to get your letter approved, you should also start processing your Visa. When you get a visa and approval at the same time, you travel right away” She concluded briefly and applauded.
“Aww!” I was so happy that I jumped into her arm again.
“Thank you so much for this beautiful idea. This is what I love to hear from you not some annoying querries”
“My pleasure. Anything for you darling. I am the only true friend you’ve got Rita”
“Ugh! Now you’ve so full of yourself” I scoffed.
“Why not? I have helped you a thousand times, when you want advise, when you are sad and confused, while you were single, I helped you find love and now I am tryna help you to meet the love of your life”
“Just so you know in case you don’t, darling you have done more harm than good” I told her and she furrowed.
“That's the fact. Sometimes, you speak sense and most times, you spew nonsense” She hissed at the bittersweet compliment.
“But of course, you are my little silly true friend” I pinched her cheeks lightly and she finally smiled.
Her phone chimed a love song, when she picked it instantly and the excitement on her face signified that she was speaking to her boyfriend.
“Finally! Okay. I will be on my way now” She said into the phone and hung up the call. “That was Adam”
“I know. Obviously”
“So, he is back from wherever he went to and I better get going now!” She sipped from the glass once more then hurriedly headed to the door.
“Aww! Adam and Eve are about to go have some lone time together” I teased her while I saw her off the door.
“While Rita’s head is still banging about the fantastic night I mentioned earlier. It's very very obvious!” She teased in return and scurried outta my apartment before I could lambast her.
Yes! Yes! Oh finally! Zane and I will be meeting sooner than I expected.
