Chapter 37
I couldn’t believe I was now in front of Neticia's picture. The girl Damon first loved. The first woman he appreciated. The woman who changed Damon's behavior. Just looking at her for the first time and you will know she is not an ordinary woman even though I know she was just a housekeeper at the palace.
I turned around the room where I was now. Then this room belonged to Neticia. I explored every corner of the room and just thinking that many memories of Neticia were formed here made my chest ache slightly.
Her room looks cozy and neat. Just take a look at her room and you will immediately see that it belongs to a beautiful woman like Neticia. I looked again at the large painting hanging on the wall of this room.
"Damon missed you...do you know that?" I talked to her picture. I swallowed hard as I felt the bitterness running down my throat. I sighed heavily and smiled a bit while staring at her stunning face.
"Why? Damon was always beside you…yet you still want to follow Alpha Devon until his death…” I couldn't help but be emotional. I don't know if I will be happy that she loved Alpha Devon or hurt because I know that Damon secretly cared for and loved her during those times. I know it hurts. To love someone who doesn't love you back...it must be painful, and I know Damon really felt bad at that time.
There's nothing wrong with Damon. Damon has it all. So, I don't understand why Neticia...didn't see him as a lover. What am I thinking? I don't know why I am asking Neticia like this now when I know I will be hurt.
What if Neticia loved Damon back then? How about me? Damon will probably reject his mate bond with me. I might not be able to reach this place either. Thinking that I won't be able to meet Damon leaves my heart broken. I closed my eyes tightly.
I don't have to think about all that anymore. What matters now is what is happening in the present. I will not let Damon end up like his parents and Alpha Devon. I will protect him. And that's one thing that Neticia missed doing.
I was about to leave the room when I heard something fall down from the floor. I looked behind me and saw a pen holder. It was a different pen holder though. Even though it is a pen holder, there is no pen in it. Maybe because some of Neticia's things have been taken. So maybe until now, Neticia's room is here and still alive and well, it is out of respect for her as a woman who gave her life for Alpha Devon.
I picked up that pen holder and was about to return it to its place when I heard something inside it. It was as if there was a small object inside the pen holder because it was shaking.
I checked the pen holder but there was nothing inside, so I don't know where that sound is coming from. I shook it again and looked at the body of the pen holder. Was it coming from the inside of the pen holder? I was about to try to open it when I heard some footsteps outside the room of Neticia. I stopped and approached the door to better hear what the people who passed by were talking about.
"I don't know where to find her. Damn! The Alpha was furious!” I heard them outside. I frowned at what I heard.
"Why did you leave Luna alone? Now Alpha Damon is mad at us again!" My eyes widened at what the other said. Damon...found out that I was out?! Shit!
“She asked me to get some water for her! I didn't know she would use that time to leave her room!” the other voice said. I closed my eyes tightly. I am fucking dead!
When the conversation and footsteps ended, I quickly returned the pen holder to the vanity table in the room and quickly opened the door to leave. Damn it! I really need to go!
I quickly ran towards Damon's room, and I was about to open the door when it opened first, and Damon spat out there with his eyebrows meeting and the irritation and darkness on his face were so obvious. My face got cold because I knew I was going to face intense interrogation!
"What are you fucking thinking Athena?" His every word was full of emphasis and madness while I sat like a kitten on the bed facing him. He's staring at me like daggers. I feel a mixture of worry and anger from him.
"I-I'm sorry...I was just bored and tried to roam around the palace and then...I lost walking around but fortunately, I found my way again," I lied. Damn it! It's so hard to lie in front of him. I can't look directly at him!
"Really? It's late at night and you still chose to go for a walk? This is not a fucking zoo, Athena,” he said crisply. I snorted. I know he's very mad at what I did. But why is it too much? I don't get mad at him when he suddenly disappears! And once again he is not here sleeping next to me! Do I know where he sleeps? But I didn't complain about what he was doing!
"I was bored! And I'm safe! Why are you so angry? Be mad when I don't come back!” I couldn't help but feel irritated. Doesn't he know that I worry about him all day? And I just want to help! What if the book I'm looking for has a connection with what happened before?
"What did you say? Are you telling me that you have a plan on not coming back, Athena?” His voice was dark when he said that. I sighed heavily. I have to calm down. Calm down, Athena.
"As if I have a choice not to come back, Damon? Why is it a big deal to you anyway? I mean, every time you suddenly disappear and don't sleep in our room, do I complain? Did you hear me whine? Complain about it? You're so unfair…” I lowered my eyes to the ground. I bit my lower lip. I shouldn't have said that.
He becomes silent. The silence lasted so long that I could hardly bear it. Did he realize it now? How unfair is he to me?
"I was just worried, Athena. You know that it's dangerous hours for both of us, especially you. Jules is just around the corner, and I can't afford to lose you either," he softly said as he stepped toward me. He knelt in front of me and found my eyes. We both looked at each other and my heart immediately softened when I saw his soft eyes looking at me.
He sighed. "Alright. I'm sorry. I know my faults and mistakes. I wasn't thinking about your feelings when I acted that way. I promise I won't do it again," he said gently like a lullaby to my ears. Damn it! Why does it make my heart harder to ignore him when he's like this?
"Which one? That...you're going to sleep next to me every night? Always?” My cheeks felt hot when I said that. It sounds so weird! Damn it! I should've just zipped my fucking mouth! I saw him smirk. His grins were dazzling so I looked away even more. I feel like my face is as red as a tomato now.
The course of our conversation changed very quickly. It seems that just earlier he was very angry with me because of my sudden disappearance, but now he's giving me assurance and promises.
"We can't just sleep, Athena...we can also do something else," he taunted. My lips parted and I looked into his eyes. I blinked twice as I processed his words! Damn it! Why do I suddenly feel hot? A tingling sensation is building up inside me. A sensation that only Damon can awaken.
"W-We're still talking...Damon," I swallowed when I saw the gradual change in his eyes. His eyes became intense and...fiery.
"We can continue our talk after this. You've been seducing me Athena…and this is also your punishment for making me worry,” he said steely, and less than a second later he pushed me onto the bed and lay on top of me. My chest heaved in shock at what he did. His eyes burned with desire as his eyes traveled on my lips down to my chest. I just closed my eyes when I felt his flamed attack of his lips on me.
His dominating lips are kissing every corner of my lips. It was so hot, breathtaking, and earth-shattering hot kisses. He didn't give me a chance to breathe, he was punishing me with my lips. But...I was enjoying it...so damn much.
