Chapter 31
Tangled together in the sheet of a blanket over the bed I feel so safe and secure inside Damon's arms. We just finished our hot lovemaking, and I was relieved that he wasn't wounded from what happened between the rogues. He told me the attack ended quickly because the rogues' forces weakened immediately.
Unfortunately, they didn't catch any rogues today to put in the investigation room. All the attacking rogues escaped. I feel Damon's peaceful breathing next to me. I know he was tired from what happened that's why he slept so deeply.
I want to sleep but my brain doesn't stop thinking. Even more, I learned what Anna went through. I didn't think Damon's past was this complicated. The enemy is targeting Damon just as it is targeting Damon's parents and Alpha Devon.
And they have only one goal. This is to have the power as the Alpha king of Kingdom Agama. I knew it was going to be a bloody battle and I was sure myself that I would do anything to help Damon and get justice for Anna.
Until now, the enemy has not been recognized, which is one of the problems. It's like we're fighting blindly and worst is we don't know even the shadow of the enemy. That's why Damon is frustrated. I took a deep breath and looked at Damon's handsome face. He looks so peaceful.
I never imagined I would fall for someone like him. I hated him at first but...I can't help myself falling in love with him. Maybe our heart is like that. Difficult to decide. Sometimes it doesn't match your wishes. But in the end, you will be able to follow because you gradually will like it too.
The next day, the palace was busy repairing the damage to the area. Damon woke up early and Anna just informed me that he left early to visit the gate where the rogues entered yesterday.
I was combing my hair in front of my vanity table when an idea came up to my mind. Anna was behind me and watching what I was doing. I finished breakfast earlier today and since I'm not busy anymore, I moved my session with Britney to the morning.
My eyes darted to Anna. I remember her saying that she witnessed how Damon's parents got murdered and tried to save them but unfortunately, she was...violated. But I wonder if she saw the murderers? I can't ask her right away. If I ask now it might affect Anna's emotions again and I don't want her to suffer from that painful feeling.
"Is there something wrong, Luna?" I blinked when she called me. I didn't realize that I had been staring at her for a long time. I smiled at her.
"Nothing, Anna. We'll go ahead to the library now," I stood up and put the comb down on the table. Anna followed me. When we got to the library, Britney was waiting for us there. Britney's discussions were longer today so I listened more.
When it was over, I was left alone in the library because I ordered Anna to bring my lunch here to the library. While waiting for Anna, I thought of leaving the library and walking toward the back door of the palace. Because from here in the library, there is a back door here and the back part of the palace will open to you.
And behind the palace, you can see the acacia trees that serve as decorations in the area because of their fine color and size. I guess a guard didn't notice me, because they didn't follow me but it's okay I won't go far and I'm sure there's no danger here.
There was a strong wind around me and I felt the coldness of its breeze. My long dress touched the small grass lying on the ground as I walked closer to an acacia tree. Behind these trees can be seen the high and lofty wall. This acts as a barrier to the palace from the outside.
I looked at the blue sky as I took shelter in an acacia tree. It must be hard for Damon. His parents have murdered...his brother as well. Another one was Neticia, a woman who was also important to him. What exactly can I do to help him? I am just a human. I can't turn into a wolf—
"A human girl...huh?" I stopped in my thoughts when I heard a voice. I looked around but didn't see anything. Was it just part of my imagination?
"I'm up here," said the voice. My eyes widened and turned to the top of the tree and were stunned to see a man standing there. He's wearing a blue coat and boots, tall, and has an aura like Damon's. He also resembles Damon in some ways...
"It's a shame to know that my cousin...is mated...to a human," he smirked. I was surprised when he jumped to get down from the tree. I quickly backed away from him. Cousin...does it mean...he's Damon's cousin? I stared at him more. He has brown hair, black eyes, dark features on his face, he's handsome but...Damon is much better, I think.
I saw how his eyes went from my feet up to my face. He has an intimidating aura just like Damon.
"You're...Damon's cousin?" I tried to speak. He raised an eyebrow.
"What a disgraceful mouth. Don’t you call your Alpha…Alpha Damon?” he raised an eyebrow. I know that but I'm used to calling him by his name now! I didn't know it was such a big deal to him! Damon doesn't even complain when I call him! Who is he to complain? I would have wanted to glare at him, but I didn't know him well yet, and another thing...I wasn't with Anna or even...at least a guard.
"If you don't like the way I call the Alpha then...complain it to the Alpha. I'll accept any punishment," I said bravely. I was surprised by his sudden laughter and then he looked at me amused.
“As if an Alpha could hurt his…Luna? Anyways, you're a human. You don't know what the bond means to us," he said and walked past me. My jaw tightened. Why is it that whenever he speaks, I seem so useless because I am a human being?
"Bond is a string attached to one another. One could not live without the other. The other could not breathe without his mate. A bond is where you will do anything to protect your mate…even if it costs your life,” I said seriously. I faced him because I felt him stop walking.
Of course, I know what bond means. I am just a human but because of that bond...I felt love. And it's because of Damon so who the hell is this man to think that I'm naïve to not know about it?
I heard him chuckle and slowly turned toward me. I saw his smiling lips. I am starting to hate that smirk. I am starting to hate this man.
"Excellent but...you're weak. Sooner or later...Damon will meet his downfall...because of you. He must be cursed by the Moon Goddess for giving him a mate…like you,” he said turning his back to walk away. My jaw tightened even more, and my anger intensified for that man. Damn it!
"By the way, I'm Jules Simson, don't forget it." the man said before he disappeared from my sight.
