Chapter 26
He was silent. I was nervous about his reaction. Does he think that I'm curious about him, that’s why I know everything about this? He must be wondering why I know about the girl he first loved.
I avoided looking especially at him. "B-But...I don't care! I don't care if you love someone else! The important thing for me is...I am treated equally," I saved myself because I didn't want him to think that I was curious about him even though it was true.
"We have to rest now," he said coldly and turned around to leave first. I stared at his broad back as he walked away. In that case, he is still affected by that girl. Why so? That girl hasn't been in this world for a long time, but I can't stop being jealous of her.
I followed Damon. We quietly entered our room. I saw him take off his royal cape and enter the bathroom. I just sighed and sat on the bed. I also took off my cloak and just lay on the bed. I turned my back on his place and just covered myself with a blanket.
I shouldn't be hurt but why is that? I can't stop myself from getting hurt. I want to meet the girl he first loved. I want to know how Damon likes her. How Damon loved her.
I fell asleep with that thought. When I woke up, Damon was gone. Anna was the one I saw inside the room, fixing what I would wear for that day. On this day, my schedule is to talk to the Elders.
Anna helped me fix my clothes and when I went down to the dining room, I saw Damon already there having coffee. I quietly sat on his right side and started eating. The silence between the two of us was deafening. I'm not used to it because we often argue at the table every morning and maybe Anna and Stone also feel the strange atmosphere between Damon and me.
I don't care. It's up to him. From now on I don't care about him anymore! I will do the duty as his partner, but I will make sure to take care of my feelings! Right! I shouldn't be affected by him.
After we finished eating, Anna and I immediately went to the library because some Elders were waiting there to talk to me. I had a good conversation with them. The flow of the event also became clear, so my work became easier. When lunch came, I asked Anna to send food to me again and in the afternoon, Britney had a discussion.
Somehow, I forgot about my problem with Damon because I was so busy all day. That's why when I finished, I didn't realize that I fell asleep at my desk. I was left alone in the library because I ordered Anna to get a sample of the speech I was going to give at the event.
But I was disturbed in my sleep when I felt someone watching me. I slowly opened my eyes and quickly straightened up to see Damon sitting in front of me. I blinked as I looked at him, making sure it wasn't a dream.
"W-What are you doing here?" I slightly adjusted my face. I suddenly became conscious because I was just woken up. Maybe later I'll have sweaty saliva!
"Checking on you," he answered. I looked away and just arranged the things on my desk while I could still feel his eyes on me.
"You're done. You can leave," I pleaded with him.
"We will go up to the room together," he said. I was almost tormented by what he said. Why didn't he include Neticia? He dreamed about her, didn't he? Now I sound jealous!
"I won't go with you, I have something else to do," I said while still pretending to be busy putting things away.
"Then, I'll stay here until you finish," he insists. My eyebrows furrowed more.
"Aren't you busy? Don't waste your time here," I said a bit annoyed that he's kept doing this!
"You want to talk, right?" he asked. I was a little nervous there. Does he mean that he is ready to tell me about Neticia?
I looked at him, but his face remained expressionless. But I don't understand why my heart is losing so much when he just sits there and does nothing. Am I that crazy?
"I-I'm busy," I said. Damn it! 'Isn't this what I want? Why am I avoiding it now? I'm so stupid!
"My older brother adopts Neticia after he saw her being sold by the rogues," I was stunned by what he said. Then Alpha Devon is really very kind and helpful. How many more people could he have helped? Anna said that Alpha Devon also helped her the difference is...Mommy was the one who saw her at that time.
"We treated her as part of the family...and we became friends," he continued. I stared at him, but I couldn't see any expression. Is he really like this? Or is he just used to hiding all his feelings?

Does it mean Damon had an unrequited love before? Neticia loves her older brother...and that leaves him...broken, then?
"Because I care for her, I was there to comfort her. And maybe...I don't know if that's the first love you're talking about," he shrugged. What? He doesn't know what he feels at that time? He is not sure if that is his first love? Does he really know nothing in the world other than being the Alpha King?
"But then...tragically...my brother died...it's either an accident or murder. And because Neticia wanted so badly to protect him she sacrificed herself to save him but still died in the end,”
I can't believe it.
"But you think someone killed them, right? That's why you're investigating," I said. I was nervous as he stared at me deeper and deeper. When he stares like this, I can't stop my legs from shaking.
"And that's why I don't want you to be involved with this..." he said. I frowned.
"What do you mean?" I asked confused.
"Every death anniversary of my brother an attack always happens. The rogues are leading the attack,” my eyes widened. What?
"W-Why are they attacking?" I asked horrified.
"They want the throne..." he answered. Then…I stared at Damon.
"And that's the reason I see why my parents were killed as well as Alpha Devon and now that I'm sitting on the throne...I'm next on their target," Damon said.
I was shocked by what he said. But despite everything I felt only one thing. I feel so worried for Damon because his life may be in danger.
