Chapter 45
I quickly approached him in concern even though there were many people around his staff who were also worried about him.
"W-What happened, Damon?!" I asked worriedly. I don't know where to look. Is it because of the blood on his head or his tired eyes? He smiled briefly at me. I can feel his tiredness.
"We fought some rogues. But we're fine," Damon answered quickly. I swallowed hard when a wolf medic pulled him out and took him to a room to be treated. I insisted to enter the room, but they won't let me. I could do nothing but wait outside.
They encountered rogues. It means Jules was just near where they came from. Jules' group is now strong because the rogues have sided with him. And rogues are dangerous and brutal kinds of werewolves. I read that they have no heart. I read that they won't think twice to devour you. They can compare to wild animals who don't have consciousness about right and wrong.
According to the books I read, they also have minds, but they are naturally obsessed with darkness, killing, and blood. It's hard to tame them unless...if you propose something that they like. Jules probably promised them something, leading the rogues to team up with him.
Agama kingdom will suffer if this continues. Rogues are too many and once they team up together and someone leads them with equal darkness and evilness, it will be the downfall of every kingdom in the world of werewolves. It can't be happening.
After the doctor finished, I quickly entered the room. I saw Stone there looking at Damon who was now fast asleep. Stone noticed me so he quickly went to pay his respects to me.
"I'm going ahead now, Luna," Stone dismissed himself, but I blocked his way to stop him. We both looked at each other. I sighed heavily.
"Stone...I know Damon won't say anything to me. That's why I'm here to ask you. What really happened, Stone?” I asked almost pleadingly. I saw the hesitation on his face. He doesn't want me to know. I know Damon trusts him and this is why he stayed by Damon's side. Stone is loyal to Damon. I know that.
"It's better if you ask the Alpha—"
"Even if I ask him, I know he'll just lie to me," I said. He sighed.
"I understand the Alpha. I would rather lie and hide the truth than hurt the person I love,” something glowed in Stone's eyes. I stared at him. Is there a circumstance where he hid something from Anna? I want to ask him, but I feel like it's borderline. It's personal.
"But hiding the truth also means hurting the person you love, Stone," I said seriously. He averted his gaze. Is there something wrong with Stone and Anna? I heaved a sigh. Why are so many problems coming one after the other?
"I'm gonna leave now, Luna," he said and walked past me. I watched him open the door and leave. I just lost my gaze at the door when I noticed Damon moving on the bed. I walked over to the bed and sat next to it while watching Damon who now had a bandage on his head. He looks fine. And I know his wound will heal soon. I read in the book that werewolves' wounds heal quickly. They are much more powerful creatures than humans.
I didn't realize I had fallen asleep watching over Damon. I just woke up to a touch on my cheek. I slowly opened my eyes and lifted my vision to him. I saw him staring at me intently. My lips curved into a smile.
"How are you feeling?" I asked hoarsely. I sat properly and watched him still staring at me seriously. How many hours did I sleep? Did he just wake up?
"Fine...did you eat dinner already?" he asked. I was stunned by what he said. I almost forgot about dinner!
"I haven't..." I answered. I saw his eyes darken. Is he angry?
"I was right. Don't worry I already ordered Anna to take your dinner here," he said.
"What about you? You have not eaten yet!"
"I'm fine. Werewolves can skip a meal the whole week without feeling weak," he said proudly. I frowned. I know. They have so many abilities that no one person can surpass.
Silence filled us. I couldn't think of anything else to say except that I was really worried about him. I know the whole kingdom is in danger now. Just thinking that Damon has a lot of problems is making me nervous. Because I know Damon won't think twice to save his kingdom.
"Did you...see...Jules?" I asked hesitantly.
"No. But we encountered his dogs," Damon's jaw tightened. I swallowed hard.
"Many of you are wounded. Do you think…they are that strong?” I asked again.
"Why? Do you think we can't win against them?" his tone became dark and intense. His tone made me nervous.
"No! That's not what I mean!" I was quick and lowered my head a bit. Is he angry because that's what he thought I thought about him? That he's weak and can't beat Jules?
"I have so much faith in you, Damon but...I'm worried. Jules is…desperate and dangerous,”
"I'm also desperate and dangerous, Athena. I won't let Jules get off the hook. I've been wanting to avenge my brother. I've been waiting for this. I will kill him no matter what happens," he said with certainty. I swallowed hard. He's been wanting to avenge his brother I know that...but I also know...he's also doing this to avenge Neticia.
Why so? I shouldn't feel this because I know it's right to give justice to what happened to Neticia but why am I hurt? Am I selfish to feel this way?
"Then...can you promise me you won't die, Damon?" I almost begged when I said that. I want him to promise me that he won't leave no matter what happens. I want him to reassure me that his life is still more important than getting revenge on Jules.
I saw him clench his jaw. He looked away and from that, my heart broke into so many pieces. Why can't he promise? In that case…he would rather leave me as long as he can avenge his brother and…Neticia?
How about me? Does he think about my feelings?
"You have to rest now, Athena." He said dismissing me. My heart literally...break into million pieces. I felt how my hope with us shattered into tiny glasses.
