Sophie let out a chuckle through the phone, "Oh, Kat, you're always scared of getting into trouble. I don't want you to get into trouble too, so we'll talk later."
"Bye and thanks so much for being a true friend." I said, feeling very glad to have someone like her in my life.
"Don't worry, Kat. I'll always be here for you during good and bad times." She reassured me and it sounded very sincere.
I felt my smile widen at her words and I replied, "I'll try to always be there for you too, Sophie."
She hung up the call and I placed my phone back inside my purse. I started going through Google, trying to find the lastest gossip when I heard Tess say, "So the boss is your mate, huh? I thought so when I saw how you two were making googley eyes at each other earlier."
I turned to her with a shy smile on my lips as a blush rose on my cheeks, she was already looking at me with a playful smile as she waited for my response. "Yes, he's my mate and we just met last night. Dating is a cover for the humans working here."
She nodded, "Yeah, I get it as a werewolf, but the humans here don't understand. They're already gossiping about you, saying that you got this job because he's your boyfriend."
I let out a frustrated sigh and raised my hand to my forehead to message it with my fingers. I took my hand back as I replied, "I knew this would happen, but at least not everyone here is thinking that."
"Yes, but Ms. Heather seems to despise you because of that. You have to be careful of her, she's always sniffing for one little mistake to make your work life a living hell or have you fired." Tess explained to me with a concerned expression on her face.
I suddenly felt panicked and afraid at the thought of living in a difficult working environment. However, my wolf reassured me in my mind, 'Don't be afraid, little Kat. Our mate is her boss, she can't bully you.'
Her reassurance took my panic and fear away, 'You're right, companion. She can't mistreat me, thanks for comforting me.'
'You're welcome, my dear.' My wolf replied in my head. Our conversation was usually very fast, so Tess hardly noticed me spacing out.
I looked at Tess with a grateful smile, "Thanks so much for letting me know and looking out for me. I'll try to stay out of her way."
She smiled back at me and nodded, "Great, so I'll let you get back to work now."
I nodded, "Okay, we can talk at lunch."
"Sure, you can meet my mate there too, he works in the tech department." She said, excitedly.
"It's so nice that you two work in the same place. Did you meet here or was it before you both started working here?" I asked her, feeling curious.
"We met here, it was magical! When we saw each other, we both knew that we're meant to be. He came up to me and introduced himself while giving me his hand to shake and as soon as our hands touched, our names appeared on our wrists!" She narrated, looking starstruck as she reminisced the moment. It made me think that she really loved him and it made me happy to see such a happy couple.
"That's magical indeed! It was just like how Sebastian and I found out that we're mates." I gushed with a large smile on my face.
"Exactly! But I'm sure you two's moment was a lot more magical since he's Sebastian Wolfe!" She exclaimed with a chuckle.
I chuckled too, knowing that I was so lucky to have Sebastian as my mate. Before I could think of a reply, she said with an amused smile, "I'm going to let you get back to work for real now."
I smiled back at her, "Okay, it was fun talking with you."
"You too!" She replied, maintaining her smile as she turned back to her computer. I turned back to mine too to start working on my news article.
It was soon lunch time, Tess and I were walking towards the company's cafeteria to get something to eat and to meet her tech boyfriend/mate. However, as soon as we entered through the doors, my phone started ringing from my purse. I quickly pulled it out as Tess said, "I'll go ahead and get our meals. You're okay with chicken burger and fries?"
"Sure." I replied her absent-mindedly as I glanced at my phone's screen to see my sister, Vanessa's name.
Tess walked towards the counter to get our meals as I answered the call and placed the phone against my ear, "Hey, V."
"Hey, Kat. When were you going to tell me that you and Cameron broke up and that you found your mate. Not only that, but he's also Sebastian Wolfe?" Vanessa asked, sounding concerned and a bit annoyed.
"I guess Sophie told you, and I was going to tell you after work, Sebastian and I are coming over."
She let out a heavy breath, "But how could you keep this from me? You know how much I looked up to Cameron. I can't believe he betrayed you and me like this."
I knew how much she saw him as her big brother since our parents gave birth to all girls; me, Vanessa and our twin sisters, Polly and Penny. Polly and Penny were five years old while Vanessa was sixteen, so she got really attached to Cameron, especially when he acted protective of all of them. It was almost unbelievable that it was the same Cameron that I caught cheating on me. He used to be so sweet or maybe he pretended to be.
I let out a sigh, "I'm sorry, V. I have been so busy and swarmed with work. Besides, I told Sophie before you because she called me to know whether Cameron proposed or not. But don't worry, you're going to love Sebastian even more than Cameron, I promise."
Her anger was gone and her mood shifted to a bit of excitement as she replied, "Okay, I'll be waiting to meet him later today."
"Awesome, but listen, please don't tell Mom or Dad yet. I want them to hear everything from me." I told her, feeling worried about their reaction, especially dad who has been seeing Cameron as the son that he never had. He would be heart broken and angry, very very angry, but I hoped that he would like Sebastian even more than Cameron.
