Pei Yansi looked at Shen Heyu with concern, as her face had gone as pale as paper, completely void of any color.
Shen Heyu, in a panic, shook her head and was about to answer when she saw Lu Yi climbing up from the ground. She anxiously warned Pei Yansi, "Be careful!"
As Pei Yansi turned around, he saw the fierce expression on Lu Yi’s face. Lu Yi, with a clenched fist, threw a punch at Pei Yansi, but Pei Yansi easily caught it.
Lu Yi was no match for Pei Yansi. With a fierce kick, Pei Yansi sent Lu Yi flying, and he lay on the ground, unable to get up from the pain.
Lu Yi, sent sprawling by Pei Yansi’s kick, spat out a mouthful of blood.
Just as Shen Heyu was about to step forward and check on him, memories of his recent treatment of her projected in her mind like a film.
Recalling the harsh words Lu Yi had said to her just moments ago, Shen Heyu bit her teeth and forced herself to harden her heart.
Eventually, she didn’t go over to check on Lu Yi. Instead, she just looked up at Pei Yansi, whose face wore a caring expression.
Despite having just sent someone flying with a punch, his eyes still held such a gentle look.
"Thank you," Shen Heyu said softly to Pei Yansi.
"Does this asshole usually treat you ? I always thought he was good to you, which is why I let him stay around you," Pei Yansi said, looking at Shen Heyu.
Had he not witnessed it himself, he might not have known what kind of life Shen Heyu was enduring out of his sight.
Meeting his intensely caring gaze, Shen Heyu avoided his eyes and glanced at Lu Yi, who was gasping in pain on the ground.
The words Lu Yi said just now were chilling to her heart, but if she was honest with herself, he was more often kind to her.
Shen Heyu spoke honestly, "Today was just an exception, perhaps because he’s just had a car accident and wasn’t in a stable mood. He’s normally very good to me."
"Shen Heyu, after how he’s treated you, you still speak up for him, make excuses for him. Today, I witnessed how he treats you. With these things, there’s either zero times or countless times. You mustn’t stay beside such a person anymore."
Pei Yansi was genuinely concerned for Shen Heyu’s safety. Lu Yi might not seem like a harmless, gentle rabbit as he appears, but more like a dangerous wolf.
"Thank you, Mr. Pei, for your concern, but this is my issue, and I’d rather you not trouble yourself over it," Shen Heyu said, distancing herself from Pei Yansi.
"Shen Heyu, even at this point, do you still resist my help? If he truly harms you, you must tell me. I’ll definitely teach him a lesson."
"Mr. Pei, I’ve made myself very clear. Thank you for your kindness, but it’s unnecessary," Shen Heyu coldly refused Pei Yansi.
She glanced at Lu Yi and then turned and walked away.
Watching Shen Heyu’s retreating figure, Pei Yansi slowly approached Lu Yi again, stepping on his chest, pressing him down so he couldn’t get up.
"You bastard, tell me the truth. Have you hurt Shen Heyu? If I see you do it again, I’ll cripple your hands and feet," Pei Yansi coldly threatened Lu Yi.
Lu Yi looked disheveled, blood still dripping from the corner of his mouth as he struggled to lift his head from the ground to look at Pei Yansi.
"This is a domestic matter between Shen Heyu and me. It’s none of your business. She’s my wife, and I can treat her however I want. Even if I hit her, it would only be considered domestic violence. A few days of detention should suffice."
After uttering these deranged words, Lu Yi actually chuckled twice, looking dangerously arrogant. Without any mercy, Pei Yansi lifted his foot and fiercely kicked him.
The kick knocked Lu Yi out cold. Approaching, Pei Yansi saw Lu Yi’s eyes roll back, lying on the ground like a dead salted fish. He irritably furrowed his brows.
When Zhao Jin arrived, he caught sight of Pei Yansi standing over Lu Yi and hurried over to whisper advice.
"CEO, you should be careful. We’re outside. If someone takes pictures or records a video and posts it online, it could severely affect the company’s image and reputation. You’d better step back now."
Zhao Jin glanced at the unconscious Lu Yi and inhaled sharply. The sorry state of Lu Yi showed he’d been severely beaten.
"Do you feel sorry for him? Do you know what this bastard just said?" Pei Yansi didn’t lift his foot. Instead, he pressed down harder on Lu Yi’s chest. The more he looked at him, the more irritated he became.
"What did he say?" asked Zhao Jin, uncertain and cautious.
"This bastard just said that he and Shen Heyu are already married. Even if he beats her, it’d only be considered domestic violence, not intentional injury, and that he’d only need a few days of detention."
"Holy shit!" On hearing this, Zhao Jin became enraged, cursively lashing out and fiercely kicking Lu Yi in the head.
"A marriage certificate isn’t a license to beat someone. This bastard dares to be so brazen; it’d be no loss if he were kicked to death. Scum should be kicked wherever found."
Zhao Jin, fueled by anger, kicked a few more times, administering a couple of finishing blows until the unconscious Lu Yi was cruelly kicked awake. Wincing in pain, squinting through blurred vision, Lu Yi saw two icy faces staring down at him, looking like lord Yama coming to claim a soul.
Having just woken up, Lu Yi felt as if his body was falling apart. He swallowed a mouthful of blood and shakily pointed at Pei Yansi and Zhao Jin, grinding out his words through clenched teeth.
"What about you? If you dare say such nonsense again, I’ll send you to heaven with one kick," Zhao Jin angrily kicked him again, leaving Lu Yi dazed from the impact.
"You were just worrying I’d kill him, and now you’d rather do it yourself," Pei Yansi finally lifted his foot. The prone Lu Yi slowly, like a turtle, turned over and sat up.
"Such scum doesn’t deserve to live; they must die. But for the CEO’s wife to be with such a bastard is too dangerous."
"With me around, I absolutely won’t let him harm a single hair on Shen Heyu’s head. Have him taken to the ward and guarded," Pei Yansi coldly glanced at Lu Yi, finding even his sight repulsive, then turned and entered his own ward.
"What do you mean by that? Explain yourself clearly," Lu Yi, feeling an ominous premonition rising inside him, uneasily pressed Pei Yansi for an explanation.
"You’ll find out soon enough what the CEO means."
