"Where did he go? Erish?" She went to Erish side and asked in a hectic tone. Feeling desperate to know more about it. She couldn't believe it, she was late. And he is gone.
However, Erish didn't reply to her. He was looking at her with upset eyes.
Angela couldn't take his silence and asked him more forcefully.
"Erish, tell me! Where has he gone? I came here to meet him. Tell him that I can not live without him then why suddenly, does he go without even meeting me?" Her voice was completely shaking.
Hearing her words, Mrs.Brooks immediately rushed to her side and asked in disbelief, "Are you telling the truth? Do you truly want to start a new life with him?"
Angela felt broken down and said in a broken voice," Y-Yes, I wanted to tell him. I already forgive him for his mistake and wanted to start a new life with him."
Her eyes turned reddish as her voice turned almost weak at this moment.
Mrs.Brooks, lips curled up in a smile and her eyes got happy tears with a new hope.
"Angela, if you truly want him back. Then go to the airport. He is leaving the city to not come back again. His flight is in one hour. Please go dear and stop him to go."
Hearing Mrs. Hutson's words her eyes blinked with surprise. There is still a chance of meeting him, thinking that. She immediately wiped her tears and instantly held herself to go directly toward the main door but soon Erish consulted her to take their driver with the car to go there at a fast speed which Angela immediately agreed to. Because there is no time to think anymore. All she can think about is Eric at this moment.
The letter and divorce paper are still in her hand but soon she let them go in the car. And only hold on to the letter which is too precious for her. Because it contains the feeling of Eric, for her.
Author's POV
"Why do you stop driving?" Angela, trying to call Eric but his phone was switched off, and now suddenly saw a car moving stop. She panicked and inquired about it, the driver in a hurried tone as she had no time to be late to go to the airport.
She needs to move faster to get him and stop him from going anywhere. Every moment gave her fear which started moving from her hand.
The driver looked at Angels with concerned eyes and said, madam, there is long traffic on the highway. If we go there, we can't breach the traffic for at least an hour.
Angela's eyes widened with this news as she instantly looked outside from the car window and she could see how long the car lines were moving at turtle speed on the road.
She panicked and felt time slipping with her hand. Her eyes looked at her phone and saw there were only 45 minutes left.
"Damn it!" She cussed between her breath while her forehead sweated to think how she would get to the airport on time.
She can't lose her last hope to make him stay. If he goes, she doesn't know, will there be a chance for her or not?
"What should I do?" The tears were almost ready to fall from her eyes.
The driver noticed her miserable state and immediately tried to console her," Madam, please don't panic, there is still one way you can go. But our car can't go there. As we already got between traffic. So, I can't move anymore."
Angela's eyes got a little bit hopeful to hear him and immediately asked," Where? Tell me, I'll go by myself."
She was determined to do everything right now to be there on time.
"Madam, you need to cross the right highway bridge, and after that, you can get any cab that is ready to go to the airport. This way you can still get a chance to drop by in time."
Angela's eyes filled with the last possibility and she immediately thanked the driver before starting running in the direction the driver explained.
Many people looked at her with a different gaze. As she crossed all the traffic while running without caring about her messy appearance or her sweaty forehead.
All she thought and prayed to God. Don't let Eric go! Her every breath which she's taking right now while running only says Eric's name.
"Eric! Please don't leave me! Please!" Her heavy breathing gave her a hard time running with difficulty.
Her eyes almost got tears to feel her time is moving fast.
After running for almost fifteen minutes, she finally got a cab who's first denied her to go anywhere but at last, after convincing and telling him how important it was for her to get there in time. And almost crying and begging him. He is finally ready to drive.
"Please go faster, Sir! I need to find my husband!" Angela's voice is almost panicking.
The driver nodded to her and said," I'll try my best lady. But you need to stay calm."
Angela understood and prayed in silence to go there in time. While the driver moved at a faster speed and soon in twenty minutes, he almost crossed the halfway to the airport.
However, when it's only five minutes more to go. Suddenly the cab stopped with a bang sound.
Angela felt tense and asked immediately to the driver," What happened, Sir?"
The man turned and said in an apologetic tone," Sorry lady, but the tire is punctured and now I can't move anymore. You need to walk."
Angela felt terrified and looked at the time on her phone.
"No!" She whispered throughout her brain.
Seeing there were just a few more minutes left she nervously got out of the car and ran towards the airport.
Everyone looked at her with mixed eyes as she entered the airport with a messy appearance.
"You can't go! Eric!" She started crying as she ran towards the airport to find him.
But soon one officer stopped her midway," Hey Miss, you can't go further like this. First, let me see your identity card and your ticket!"
Angela felt more panicked, suddenly stopped by him when the time was almost going," Officer, please let me go. My husband is going to take a flight. I need to stop him from going. Please!" She almost started begging while crying.
However, the officer shook her head," Sorry Miss, you can't go further. If you don't show your identity card and tickets!"
"But I didn't have it. I just wanted to stop my husband from going." Angela bit her lower lips as she felt frustrated and nervous to see there were a few minutes left for taking the flight. And she guessed, Eric should be already sitting on his flight.
Thinking that she immediately pressed both palms together in front of the officer and requested, " Please officer, let me go. Or he will leave the city and I can't meet him again. Please, I beg you. If you want I can touch your feet!" She almost bent to do that.
"Hey, Mam!" The officer felt awkward and moved backward.
Angela looked at him with a broken gaze. When he finally pinched his nose and thought something before finally agreeing to her go.
"You can go but will you please tell me on which flight your husband is?"
Rebecca immediately nodded and gave him information.
Officer checked on time and said," I don't think you could make it on time. It's already time to fly the plane. But I'll permit you to go there with me."
Angela nodded and wiped her tears with a big smile," Thank you, Officer."
The officer nodded," Let's go!" He moved first while Angela followed him.
However, before they could go to the main counter the new announcement was made by the announcer in the airport which made Angela freeze in her place. The officer also heard it and felt sorry for her.
The announcement about Eric's flight. It's already gone. Five minutes ago.
It means she was late. She can't do anything now.
And this realization hit her badly to the core, harder. She shockingly fell to her knees in front of the officer and felt devastated with sorrow deep inside her heart.
Her last hope shattered in front of her eyes brutally which made her numb to the dead.
The hope is to get him back with her. The hope is to finally tell him that she forgives him for his past deed. The hope is to start a new journey with him where only they will be always happy together. The hope is to create new brand beautiful memories with him without any pain and suffering.
But now… Everything is just destroyed by her fate.
"Hey, mam! Are you okay?" The officer felt a little startled to see her miserable state and couldn't help but ask her about her condition.
But Angela didn't hear his words single word, as she was all thinking about her failure. She sat there feeling broken while her tears came out without any break.
"How?"
"How could I miss my last chance to stop him?" She whispered out with a heavy tone.
"Why did he need to leave me like this?"
"Why didn't he ask me last time again if I wanted him or not? Why did he leave without saying anything to me?"
"Why? Why doesn't he give me any option again and make the decision by himself?"
Her voice almost broke down with a feeling of loss.
"You just can't go like this! How dare you leave me!"
She felt impassive all over her body. While her palms covered her face to let her cry without ending.
The officer watched her and realized she was truly here for her husband. But the flight was gone. So, he felt sorry for her. And let her cry silently thinking that she would go on her own after composing herself and thinking that he left her finally alone. After saying the last statement.
"Mam, I don't know what happened to you. And why your husband left. But I think now you should go home and take a rest! Crying not going to solve anything, " He tried to look soft while sighing helplessly at the end.
Hearing him, Angela finally moved her hand from her face and looked at him, who was giving her a concerned smile before leaving her alone.
