XXVII
I angrily make the bed, throwing the covers and pillows, hitting the pillow during.
I don't know what I was thinking.
Of course he left! He got what he wanted, what would be the point for him to stay?!
"Morning, sweetie!" my mum opens my door and comes in. "Did you sleep well?"
"Yes." I bark back and she takes a step back, frowning.
"Are you okay?" she asks me and I roll my eyes.
"Yes, mum, but I'm not in the mood to talk right now, okay?"
She nods. "Okay. Well come downstairs to eat breakfast when you calm down, okay?"
"Yeah, mum." I reply and begin to throw the clothes around the room into a bin for dirty clothes.
"Wait a second, what are you wearing?" my mum asks, her hands on her hips. "Is that a man's shirt?"
I look down on myself and see that I'm still in Axel's T-shirt.
Shit.
"Oh this?" I chuckle and wave with my hand. "This is nothing. I found it in the back of my wardrobe and I thought it was quite comfortable to sleep in. I think David, the cousin, left it here once and forgot about it."
She smiles. "Oh, okay." with that, she leaves the room and I let out a big breath and plop down on my bed.
This sucked.
Everytime I think we're actually getting somewhere, it all goes down the drain.
Maybe everybody is right. Maybe Axel really is uncapable of emotion and commitment.
And love.
Maybe I'm just a fool who wants something she can't have.
I angrily throw his shirt off of me on the floor and the glare at it angrily for a few moments.
Sighing, I stand up from my bed and walk to my wardrobe to get myself a shirt.
As I'm putting on the first shirt I see, there's another knock on my room.
I groan. "Mum, I'll come to eat breakfast a bit later! Can't you just give me a few minutes?!"
"Who the hell shoved a stick up your ass?" Amber asks and comes into my room, closing the door behind her. I turn and glare at her for a few moments. She puts her arms on her hips and raises her brows. I groan and throw myself on the bed, putting the pillow over my face.
"I hate your brother." I finally say into the pillow.
She sits on the bed and rips the pillow from me.
"Yea? Are you sure? Because yesterday it really fucking didn't look like it."
"I'm sure." I say and she lays down next to me.
"What did he do?" she asks.
"He left."
"What do you mean he left?"
"When I woke up this morning he wasn't here anymore."
She quickly sits up and looks down at me with angry look.
"He slept here??"
I nod. "Yeah. He did the night before, too."
She puts her hands up. "Woah, woah slow down. I want to know everything, now."
I close my eyes and begin to speak. I tell her everything from what my dad said about him, to how he sneaked up to my room and how we danced and I tell her what happened at night (without the details), and then about Gina and how he told me of their mother.
She seems very surprised at that, but she doesn't say anything, so I continue to talk and tell her about last night.
When I'm done, she stays silent. We just lay on my bed, looking up at the ceiling.
"You know," she begins, "when I first heard about you two I was sure, I mean absolutely sure that he was only using you."
"He was." I tell her and feel a slight urge to cry at those words.
"But now I'm not so sure anymore. Especially when he told you about... mum." she gulps and I roll to my side and look at her.
"She sounds like she was a great woman." I say and she nods.
"She was. I loved her so much, and so did Axel." she says. "Let's not talk about that, okay. The point is, I think my brother might actually have feelings for you."
I groan and stand up from the bed. "Stop that. He doesn't, Amber, it's obvious. I'm just an idiot."
"Well, how about this. You give him a chance to explain himself-"
I open my mouth to protest, but she lifts up her finger, stopping me.
"One chance. If he doesn't have a good explanation, then you can block him out, ignore him for the rest of your life, whatever you want to do, but just please give him a chance to explain."
I purse my lips and lean on my desk, looking up at the ceiling.
"This is not like my brother; these things you just told me about, he never does that. And I mean never. He's also never slept with the same woman multiple times without actually having sex." she continues."I might be your best friend, but he's still my brother."
I look at her, contemplating the answer. It feels like I've given him way too many chances already.
"Fine." I say in exaparation and she grins.
"Thanks, Soph!" she comes and hugs me. "I gotta go now, okay? I'll see you later."
She moves to go out of my room, but I quickly stop her.
"Wait, Amber, can you give me his number?"
"You still don't have his number?"she frowns and I shake my head.
"God, girl what are you doing with your life?" she asks and begins to search for the number on her phone.
"Here, I sent it to you. Have a fun day!"
With that, she's gone and my phone beeps as it receives a new message from Amber the Poo with Axel's number.
I quickly reply her a Thanks and save his number under Axel the Bum.
I go under his contact to start writing a message.
*Why did you leave?*
Does that sound too clingy?
Nah.
I press send and wait for a minute to see if he's going to reply.
He doesn't so I place the phone on the bed and grab the book to busy myself.
The rest of the day goes by slowly, my mum asks me if I'm okay a few times, to which I always reply with a Yes.
Axel never texts back and it's beginning to worry me, but I force myself to not send any more texts. I study a bit and catch up with Liam through the day, and when the night finally comes, I fall asleep with great difficulty. The next day I wake up too early to get ready. I put extra effort in my make up; I use foundation, mascara, eyeliner and lipgloss. I even wear a cute light pink dress.
Yesterday I noticed that Axel actually did give me a love bite and I covered it as soon as I noticed it. It was extremely dark so I needed to use a lot of concealer and I let my hear down around my neck. I did the same today. I knew that I put way too much effort in my looks, but I kind of wanted to look good, and maybe make him regret his actions.
There was only one problem, however.
He never showed up in school to see how I look.
