The word slipped out of my mouth before I could stop it.
When I noticed my father and my mother watching me, I realized they weren’t surprised by my reaction. John and Elina had worn the same stunned expressions when they first learned the truth about Cursed Children themselves.
But they didn’t know the truth, or why I reacted that way.
I wasn’t shocked by the story.
I was shocked by the system notification message.
’Why did I receive EXP... just from hearing the truth about Demon Children?
Is there some kind of connection between the so-called EYES OF THE GODS, the first cursed child... and me?
My thoughts spiraled as I stood there, my face frozen in confusion. The moment the system notification appeared, something deep inside me told me this wasn’t just history. This wasn’t just a tragic story from the past.
It felt personal, like I was hearing a story of some distant past of myself. Yet, this was clearly the first time I had heard of such a story before.
Beside me, Ada my sister couldn’t stop sobbing. I could hear the way she tried to keep it quiet, the way her shoulders trembled as tears slipped from her eyes. She didn’t know what to do. I knew she wanted to cry openly, scream even—but she was afraid.
Afraid of hurting me more.
She didn’t want to darken my mood further, not when the air was already heavy with grief. Now that she knew what had happened to our elder brother, the pain had carved itself deeply into her heart.
I could see it.
She wanted those people dead. Every last one of them. The villagers, the knights, the so-called holy figures who took him away.
But hatred didn’t give her strength.
She was just a girl—weak, helpless—trapped in the same situation all over again, because now I was next.
That realization broke and dawned on her.
Her sobbing grew uncontrollable, and when I looked at my mother and my father, I saw tears pooling at the corners of their eyes too. Yet they didn’t let them fall.
They couldn’t.
They were our parents. They were supposed to be strong. If they broke down in front of us, everything would collapse completely.
I could tell they were forcing themselves to stay composed.
After a while, they seemed to come to a silent conclusion. They couldn’t change what happened years ago. No matter what they did, the pain was permanent.
But this time was different.
They had experience now. They had knowledge. And most importantly—they still had time.
There was no room for tears anymore.
What they needed to do was plan. Escape the village without being seen. Without being reported. After that, they would try to live as normally as possible, hiding my identity, pretending I was just another child.
And if there was a way to remove this curse—they would find it.
If not...
Then we would disappear completely. Live like natives deep in some remote forest, far away from the reach of the gods and their eyes.
My gaze drifted toward the inner room, where my second sister, Oge, lay sleeping peacefully.
She didn’t know anything.
That was my choice.
I was the one who begged my parents not to tell her the truth about Cursed children. At first, they were confused—maybe even hesitant—but eventually they understood.
It wasn’t selfishness.
I just couldn’t bear to see her suffer again.
She had already endured more pain than anyone her age should. Watching her go through another emotional collapse would destroy her.
When my mother and my father realized this, I saw pride flicker briefly in their eyes.
That hurt more than anything.

Later that day, I sat down alone, my thoughts running wild.
After hearing the story and seeing the system notification, one thing became clear: those people knew Cursed Children existed. They feared them—saw them as threats that needed to be erased.
But nothing about it made sense.
If they truly understood what Cursed Children were, why label them as demons? Why take them away instead of killing them immediately?
Where did they take them to, where they killed or used for something else?
Why hide the truth?
My head throbbed from the countless unanswered questions, spinning so hard it felt like smoke was about to pour out of my ears.
There’s no point obsessing over the past, I told myself.
What matters is the present... and what comes next.

My second sister had been healthy for the first seven years of her life. Then, a little over a year ago, everything changed.
I remembered it clearly.
At first, we thought it was nothing—just frostbite from the harsh winter. But soon, we realized it was something far worse.
Her body was changing—but not growing.
It was deteriorating.
Some unknown illness gnawed at her health, slowly stripping away her strength. She could no longer run or play like before. Even simple movements left her breathless.
Walking too fast was enough to cripple her temporarily.
She coughed constantly—and when it got bad, blood followed.
That was when panic truly set in.
Herbal potions only dulled the pain briefly. No matter what we tried, her condition always worsened again after some time.
Mother and Father were terrified.
They had no choice but to seek help from the town midwife.
But every time they tried, she was either "busy" or "not around."
I couldn’t tell if she truly was—or if she was deliberately avoiding us because Mother had once given birth to a Cursed Child.
Still, my parents didn’t give up.
They kept trying.
Because that’s what parents do.
