Cursed System Chapter 36

More than sisters, they treated me like loving mothers. Without realizing it, I subconsciously began thinking of them as my second mamas. Even though I wanted to express all my affection, the only way I could do so was through little baby tantrums. Those, at least, made them laugh and smile. It wasn’t much, but it meant the world to them. As time went by, more than a year after my birth, I was finally allowed onto the ground—though under strict supervision. By my fourteenth month, I had graduated from babbling to actual words. It was also on my birthday that I discovered birthdays were celebrated in this world as well. Their method was primitive, using the changing of seasons to calculate months and years. That day, I allowed myself to use simple phrases and began asking basic questions to build my vocabulary, even though I already knew every language thanks to the system. Because I knew nothing about my environment, I couldn’t flood them with questions all at once. I had to take things step by step, carefully choosing when to speak and when to stay silent. I could already understand everything I heard, so I listened closely to anything that interested me and turned it into questions of my own. Even though he constantly thought about catching up with his family—especially with me—he always came home late at night, when everyone was already asleep. To comfort himself, he assumed I was too young to notice his absence. He would promise himself to work harder the next day to make time for me, but the cycle never lasted long. The constant mental and physical stress always caught up to him. All he could do was create a mental shield and promise to catch up later. Still, my strength and strange habits never failed to amaze him. Everyone watched me with expectation, filled with anticipation about what I would do next. To keep those expectations in check, I always waited a few days before surprising them again. Another problem arose when they let me roam freely around the house using a four-wheeled babysitter John had made for me. It even had a handle so they could steer me when needed. They expected me to explore my surroundings while playing with a wooden toy. Without using any abilities or skills, I already knew the entire house like the back of my hand. There was nothing interesting to discover. Still, I had to pretend—at least show some curiosity. That was the hardest thing I had done since becoming a baby, and it always made me anxious. I had no idea how a normal child could find such a bland environment interesting. Somewhere along the way, I had forgotten that I wasn’t normal. My paranoia, combined with the wooden sitter pressing against my crotch, made me sweat bullets inside my pants. Seeing the anticipation and curiosity on their faces, I had no choice but to comply. So I decided to start with the nearest place—the rooms. I rolled toward the door leading to the inner bedrooms, glanced left, and tried to decide what kind of chaos I could cause. If they wanted entertainment, then I would give them war. The first thing I noticed was a tall wooden cabinet standing just a few inches above my head. When I got closer, I forcefully rammed my babysitter into it. Using the solid wood as support, I spotted neatly folded clothes inside. I stared at them, then swung both my hands aggressively from side to side. The clothes tumbled onto the floor. Immediately, Elina rushed in—just in time to see the clothes she had folded earlier scattered everywhere. "Oh dear," She said, half amused, half worried. "Our little son sure likes causing a ruckus with clothes." Seeing their concern mixed with anticipation, I realized I had found my escape route. From then on, I kept scattering clothes whenever I could. I didn’t like the idea of putting myself in danger. What if I accidentally cut myself on something sharp? If my parents saw my wounds heal instantly, it would cause unnecessary panic—and blow my cover completely. Eventually, they decided my adventure time was over. After that day, they sat me on an old mat spread across the floor. To limit my movement, they gave me a small wooden mannequin to play with while they recovered from the stress I had caused. Playing like this was much easier. I didn’t need to pretend or invent elaborate scenarios—I just needed to make mouth sounds to match my actions. One thing I noticed was that the toy felt incredibly light, almost as if it were made of air. Moving it was effortless. Unless I had become ridiculously strong, I thought, crushing this wooden toy should take less than a second. The thought excited me. If this was just the benefit of my meditation techniques and strength stats, how powerful would my other abilities, techniques, and skills be? With those thoughts filling my mind, I laughed and screamed openly, enjoying every moment. Each new discovery made me happier. To my parents, I was just a joyful child lost in his own fantasy world. "Who would have thought a child labeled as a cursed baby could have such a vivid imagination and live such a normal life?" They would always say. "Look at him—so innocent. How could those villagers believe such a harmless child could hurt even a fly? Aren’t they being deceived?" "Five years from now," They murmured, "We’ll be saying goodbye to this village." Unbeknownst to them, five years would be a major turning point in their life.
