Cursed System Chapter 43

CURSED CHILD POV... His eyes snapped open, glowing with white brilliance, his expression strained as the spell repeated again and again. "Mighty gods of our land, please forgive your servant for his greed..." Nothing happened. The rusty iron sword lay there, utterly still, unaffected by every spell cast upon it. Eventually, the steel knights carefully escorted the EYES OF THE GODS to the village altar, forcing me along with them. I heard his final words, like a final verdict as they echoed through the square: "This child’s soul has already been engulfed by the power of the foreign artifact..." CURSED CHILD POV...CONTINUATION The EYES OF THE GODS stared at me and then sighed as he stood before the altar and delivered his final judgment upon me. "Burn him to death!" "Burn him alive!" "Burn the freaking devil alive!" I had only just managed to open my eyes when the villagers’ voices crashed into me. When their howling—thick with spite and hatred—echoed relentlessly and fervently. For a fleeting moment, I wondered if they were truly talking about me or if it was simply someone else, however, that kind of thought could only be my imagination. The zeal in the air was suffocating. It was nothing like the village I once knew. My heart clenched as if caught in a vice, and tears slowly welled up, blurring my vision as I stood there in fear and confusion. Through my tears, I saw them. My father, my brother and my sisters.. They were being dragged forward, bound by furious hands to wooden crosses hastily constructed on the spot. The villagers’ faces were twisted with righteous rage, as if they were about to exorcist some demons. I could barely move, but dread crawled up my spine. I knew what was coming. Forcing my body forward, I slammed my forehead against the ground and begged. "No! Please forgive them!" My voice cracked. "I... I did nothing wrong! I only brought back a rusty sword! I’m willing to repent for that!" I wailed until my throat burned raw and turned sore, pleading with anyone—anyone—who might listen. My vision swam from the tears, and the amount of times I was crying. "For the sake of the gods of our land... punish me if you must, but please—please let my family go!" "The family of an evil child must also be cleansed." The words were cold. Absolute. They came from the EYES OF THE GODS. Flames erupted. Screams—high, shrill, and unmistakably human—pierced the air heavily. The cries of my father, my brothers and my sisters, tore through me. Pain thundered inside my skull, and as my tears spilled endlessly, my mind shattered. Darkness swallowed my thoughts, as my cries and pleas for mercy fell on deaf ears. "Mighty gods, your servant asks that you arise..." As my family burned upon the stakes, the EYES OF THE GODS danced before the altar with the teenagers and middle-aged men, their movements fervent and fanatical almost as if they were rejoicing that they were finally cleansing the land of demons. As for me—the so-called culprit—I was discarded. Left on the ground beside the rusty sword. Since I was "possessed" by a foreign artifact, they intended for the gods themselves to deal with me. DARK FIGURE IN THE SHADOWS POV ’Hm... so this is it.’ ’The end for my sweet little friend?’ I watched from the shadows, unable to look away. How short our time together had been. "Oh, Child... I miss the moments we shared," I murmured softly and completely heartbroken. "Though brief, they were filled with love, delight, joy—and most of all, euphoria." I stated as I lamented behind the shadows. My eyes traced the tragedy unfolding below, and something warm and unfamiliar welled within me. "How hateful these so-called holy saints are," I thought calmly. "Killing my dear friend’s family right before his eyes—spreading fanatic devotion while torturing him, what pure evil, yet they act righteous." In my current state, I could have stopped everything without resistance. But I didn’t. I couldn’t. That was not my mission. Still... pity stirred, and I lamented, it was indeed unfortunate. As long as everything ended well, perhaps nothing else truly mattered. I observed carefully. The pact’s surface rules were strict, and the way these saints enforced them was telling. I understood humans well—too well. At times, I even wondered: if my kind clashed with these holy saints, who would truly prove more ruthless? I sensed the strength of the EYES OF THE GODS and his followers clearly. This world was similar to mine, yet different. The people here carried diluted bloodlines. Their "equivalent exchange" was crude, inferior to what my superiors practiced. These saints were nothing more than servants—low-ranking, disposable. And that intrigued me. I watched as the EYES OF THE GODS began opening a portal gate. The presence of a higher existence slowly descended, its pressure silently spreading through the area. "Dear Child," I whispered, shifting my gaze to his unconscious body. "Our paths ends here. But I shall leave you a parting gift." Having made my decision, I rubbed my hands together within the shadows. I had no reason to reveal myself—remaining hidden was essential. All I needed was a medium. And the child was the necessary vessel... He was perfect. "What kind of gift," I mused, "should I give my darling friend?" Around me, the screams never ceased. Blood stained the ground. Flames devoured everything. And in that chaos— I smiled.
