Tears fills my eyes. Who could have believe that he'd meet with an accident today, when yesterday he was healthy, and fine? I wipe those that have brim, beginning to fall, and forgetting any plans — which includes, meeting Carl's father in less than thirty minutes away, going to meet Shade by evening to explain things to her, so she won't think that Nicklaus and I are...wait...what are we? Well, explain to her that we are not whatever she thinks we are — for today, I rush to grab a long sleeve round-neck top, and short blue jeans, then, I accompany it with flats. Picking up my car key, I enter the car and roar to life...and drive out for the hospital.
I thought that going to see Dad's condition will ease my pain, but no! As I get closer to the hospital, anticipation of what I might see causes me to shrink into the seat. I panic. My heart is accelerated.
I rush into the building and ask the nurse at the registry— wearing a light blue uniform, and with a curly, pinned-to-the-sided short hair— where my mum is. Of course, I asked by her occupational name.
She directs me to a different elevator this time, I take it and in seconds, finding Mom, standing by the next registry, looking at me. She's so different...filled with a somber expression I've never seen before in her eyes.
"Rayne." She calls. I walk towards her with a slow, breaking steps. "I..."
"Is it that bad?" My voice shakes.
Mom only nods his head, her head follows the path to a door, indicating to me that he's in there. I enter the room. Mom is behind me, I can hear her sob. I wonder if she can hear mine. Myself doesn't even know if I'm crying on the outside, or not. Nothing seems worth knowing
"How did this happen?" I ask.
"I don't know. But it was a car accident." Mom stops talking so that she doesn't break in between her words.
Could this be Lydia again?
It can't be. She wouldn't go this far, but then, she can.
Dad is comatose on the sickbed. There are tubes in his veins, drawing in what he needs into his body. His face is mostly covered with the oxygen mask.
"We've been calling doctor Aaron since, but he's not picking up." Mom says.
I look at her. "Doctor Aaron?" I ask. "Is that Nicklaus' father?"
"Yes. He is. You know that Nicklaus very well, right? Maybe you should try calling him." Mom's face fills with hope.
"I..." I try to remember if by any chance I have Nicklaus contact, but no memory came. We've only talked physically, not call one another before. This is bullshit. "I don't. Why can't any one else treat him?"
"We've done what we can. We have managed to stabilize him. The other nurses here are still learning. They can't remove the damn iron." Mom raises her voice. It scares me at first, but this isn't the time to be scared for the situation is what causes it. She's not raising her voice at me, convincing enough.
I frown. "What iron?"
"Look at his side. He was brought here together with the metal from the car."
Truly Mom is right. I hadn't seen that earlier. He's been bandaged at that area, around his ribs, I guess. There's no blood coming out though.
"But you can do it, yes?"
"No...what if...I hurt him more?" Her eyes is full of fear, behind those amber orbs, I see them plainly.
Then, all of the sudden, a thought ambush my brain. "I'll be back. I'll get doctor Aaron."
