It could be, especially with how Carl had told me. He hadn't said it as a story, but as a... knowledge of what he's seen, or had shared the event before his very eyes.
Carl regains himself and look at his wrist to check the time. He gasp, calling me fully back to earth.
"You should go inside." He says, drawling, causing me to frown. "You'd kill me if I tell you the time."
Now it's my turn to laugh. I gaze up at the sky to find it pitch black. There's no doubt we are in the middle of the night.
"Good thinking." I say.
Carl nods his head towards the floor, and stand. With a smirk on his handsome face, he makes a jump, back-flipping his body so that his hands are wide open, spread into the air and he falls downwards. Before I stand carefully so as not to slip, I hear a thud. He lands safely, making me gasp, and stop functioning for a brief moment.
"That was insane, you know?"
"Now come back down." He says in a sing-song tone, deciding not to comment on my last review.
Shaking my head, I brace myself, alighting with the ulterior slow moment I've ever made, and as I climb down the ladder, I hold onto it like a lifeline. My heart accelerate. On another note I should have made noticed; I hate heights. Gives me the damn trauma. I guess him, helping me up earlier didn't make me realize how much I hate it.
Before I get down, Carl takes me by the waist to ease the movement.
"Thanks." I say, finally stepping on the ground.
"You're welcome." He smiles. "One thing I forgot, which is why I had came in the first place— my dad wants to see you." Why? "You know, after the house opening party, perhaps with the way you bowed to him, he mentioned that he'd want to see you again. So... what do you say?"
I am momentarily out of words. "Yeah, it's no problem. I'll come tomorrow. What time?"
His eyes glint, refreshed. "Great, um, how about nine in the morning. I'll pick you up."
"Agreed, but I'd like to take my car. I haven't taken her out in like ages. She's dying." I whisper the last part, and Carl chuckles sharply.
"Tomorrow then, agreed." He mirrors, and walks away.
Getting to the front door, I watch as he vanishes behind the dark night, causing me to involuntarily exhale and pout, as I make my way inside.
Inside is warm, and so, so inviting that my brain just direct my legs to the bedroom instantly. In the bedroom, I change my cloths to a nylon-type pajamas and yawn, making way to the bed. On lying, I drift off into a deep, sleepless slumber.
I wake up by a continuous ringing from my phone. It has been ringing since like fifteen minutes ago, but I kept ignoring it, hoping the caller will stop. But then, my brains taps an awaken sense, sending synapses of realization through me like a vibration that jolt me up.
What the heck is the time? I overslept.
I wouldn't blame myself, but yesterday's long day. It was exhausting. I check the time to see that it's eight, twenty-two in the morning. The sound of the birds still invades into my ears, but in a low, almost inaudible chriping.
The phone rings again. It's Mom! Was she the one calling pesteringly?
"Good morning, Mom." I say into the phone.
"Where the hell did you put the phone, Rayne? I even called the telephone. You didn't pick any." She nags, causing me to mentally beg the earth to swallow me up.
"I... I'm sorry. What's wrong?" My voice is a whisper.
I notice her breathing to be heavy, but it cools and she tells me. "I'm sorry too. The present situation is bad, Rayne." Is that a sobbing Mrs. Chloe? "Your Father, he's... he met with an accident this morning. He's in my hospital. It's... he is..." She gulps. "...not so good. Just come, please."
I can not find it in me to talk, so I nod, then I see that she's not here. "I am." Then, I hang up.
