Within The Cave-Originals Chapter 35

"Where do you think you're going, young lamb." He says, his voice rich and his accent is of thick English. Young lamb? Like the statement of the young lamb in a Lion's den? Oh, this couldn't be anything good. My attention tumble back to my hand in his grasp, feeling pain switch on as he grips harder when I struggle against him. I sizzle. "Get it over with, we have got no time to waste." I hear another masculine voice says from behind me. It appears that the other man is a company of this other man that's causing me pain. I know neither of them, and my gut tells me that they are very dangerous. The continuous glowing in their eyes doesn't aid at all, but causes eeriness. "Who are you? I-I don't know you people. Leave...me alone." I state in a fit of stuttering, drawling, and shivering. My body fidget in fear. "I will. Right now." He says, and next I feel is him, yanking me off into the air with just a hefty smack on my face. Gravity takes its course, hurling me down onto the harsh, asphalt ground. I hear the yell from my very throat, ripping through the medium which sound travels within the air, but before I can stumble from the harsh effect, someone's is scooping me into their arms. Embedded in my current state, I couldn't care for who's carrying me. "Rayne." I hear the familiar, masculine voice; thick, rich, and antique. The accent being unfamiliar, and I'm able to guess who it is. "N-Nicklaus?" I ask, opening my eyes with a groan. He moves me within his arms to the side of street, and all of the sudden, I feel the pain vanishes, like a icecream inside an oven. "How—?" "Heard your wild heartbeat." He tells me. Finally recovering, I didn't feel Nicklaus at my side, watching the scene ahead me unfolds, Nicklaus moves with such fast movement that he's able to avoid the punch of one of the guys — the one who throws me to the ground like a doll — and bending his upper body, he gives a punch of his to the guy. I can swear that I hear a crack of the guy's bone. He cries out, confirming my suspicion, and falls to the ground. Nicklaus turns to the last guy, who's cowering in his weak stance, preparing to run away. As he tries to, the ground breaks, supping in his legs and next, it closes, crushing his legs. He screams, but it did not take long before the ground reverses its action, and Nicklaus twat his neck with his feet, letting off a crunch sound in the effect. I blink again, and again, and again, being unsure of what my eyes had saw. Nicklaus couldn't have don't that. He couldn't have. No, he didn't just kill them. "Tell me what I saw is just an effect of a concussion." My voice is a mixture of pleading, and needing, wanting him to tell me lies that I shall believe. I couldn't have seen a real thing. "I need to take you out of here." He tells me as he accesses me in my kneeling position on the ground. "You have healed fully." He says like a confession to only himself. And that brings me to my new question of; how did I...heal? "If only I had knew that she'd be this fast." He says to himself again. I look into his eyes, surprised that they are their natural blue, and not of another colour, and neither are they glittering as well. "Who?" "Don't you just ask too much questions?" He stands, helping me up. "I saw you do whatever it is I, perhaps, saw or thought." I don't know how to put it. He's like a puzzle I can't unravel. "You already know what happened, but your problem is not believing things. You know that I'm not normal, so why ask?" His question gets me speechless. True. Ahead of me, is the comatose body of the guys he's beaten to —more than— pulp. I face him. "Why did they attack me? I know neither of them." "A lot of these kinds of people will attack you from now on. I just want you to do one thing for me, Rayne. Stop asking questions when things like this happens. I promise when it is time, I'd unwrap all secret to you." He says. For the first time, I hear a pleading tone at the back of his sayings. Can I do it? Not ask him anything? I can not be so sure, but I prepare to give him an answer of mine. "Okay." His hand trails the side of my face, which I remember to have hit when I fell, but surprisingly, the flesh is untampered without any scrapes. With his long fingers, he takes my hair to behind of my ears, and look at me at the eyes, locking his with mine. My breathing becomes shallow, as I gulp. He leans closer, placing a peck on my forehead, and when he releases me, taking away the heat waves with his touch, he says. "Let me drive you home. We can talk a bit on the way, at least that will satisfy your inquisition, a little." He says, more like a suggestion. I nod, but halt, remembering that Shade and Mia are waiting for me. "I can't, my friends are at the other side of the street, waiting for me. Plus, I still need to visit the library." Now, I seem to be remembering what I wanted to do before the whole terrifying thing happened. "First of all, the book is not with the librarian. Second, I'll walk with you to tell your friends you won't be coming with them, is that all good?" I am astound, but nod anyway. "Okay." Is all I can say. He takes my head, placing that waves back on me, reeling my nerves with surges I can't decipher, and together, we walks to Shade's car. From the corners of my eyes, I glance at Nicklaus till we arrive near Shade's car. Nicklaus stands behind me, the part of the car hindering his figure. "Hey, I was beginning to panic. Hope you got what you wanted?" Shade says as she access me from the inside. "Come on in." I squint, unsure of what to say when Nicklaus takes the remaining space, peering at Shade through the rolled-down window. He smiles his oh-so-misceivous smiles at her, and mere looking at her, I see the blood drain from her face. It isn't her fault though. Nicklaus and his good looks. Ever charming. "How are you, Shade?" He says. Shade keeps mute, speechless, but maintain the unconscious flaring of her eyes in shock. "Actually, I will be taking your friend home." "Mia, you hear that?" Shade says, and look behind her. I do the same to find that Mia is asleep in a cramped position. No wonder she hasn't made any remark yet. "Um, okay. I'll see you tomorrow, Rayne. Um, later Nicklaus." She says, and gives me a must-to-tell-me-things-at-alone-time look. I return a I-have-no-idea gaze back at her, before she drives away. "That went nice." Nicklaus says, turning to face me. I still haven't get used to being able to talk carefree when with him. "I guess so. Where's your car?" I ask, and look round, but found nothing in sight. It's even more darker now. What time could it possibly be? "A bit far from here. Ten minutes walk." He says, smiling facetiously, leaving me with no clue as to why. Ten minutes walk? I drop my eyes to my feet and access it. Can I really walk? I don't think so. Especially from the incident that happened few minutes ago, I wouldn't want to walk at this time of the night again. "If your car isn't nearby, then why did...you tell me..." I trail off into exasperation. My gaze lock with Nicklaus to find him smirking. "Do you have to do that now?" He tilt his head as we walk few steps ahead of me so that he's standing in front of me, his behind facing my front. I give him a quizzical look even as he can't see me, because of his position. Or perhaps he could? "What?" "Hop on." He says curtly. On his back? Not happening. "Where?" I use a diversion to change my thoughtlet question. "My back? Don't test my patience, Rayne? Hurry up. You don't want more men to come, do you?" He says, snapping every last hesitation I have on doubting him, carrying me in a piggyback ride. My thought goes haywire, unable to think about how this might affect me, supposing I agree. I keep mute as I get near him, and place my hands on either sides of his shoulder. He aids me with the help of his ever cold hands, and prop my legs up to his waist, in the process, parting it, and helps me clip it at the sides. I hook my hands to the front part of shoulders so that my entwined fingers are touching his chest as well. The fact that my face didn't go full tomatoed at the feel of his hard physique is unwavering. "Now what?" My voice is low. Not as intended. I gulp. "You remembered what happened at the bar?" He says, tilting his head to the side so I can see a bit of his face. "I—don't think so." "Take a firm grip, Miss Miles." And suddenly, he's moving with an impossibly fast legs that the air gushes past us. My hair sprawl to behind me, telling me that this is real.
