Noah’s pov,
Noah returned home a few hours later. He could smell Lola had left but her presence still lingered on his mind. He sat in the dark listening to the silence wondering what to do. He thought that he connected with Lola after he opened up about his family to her. He should have known that it was stupid to let his guard down. She already used the information against him a day later. He sighed and went upstairs to try and get some sleep.
Every time he closed his eyes Lola her image flashed in front of him. She had looked absolutely smoking in that lace top and tight pants. All he had wanted to do was pick her up, bring her home and rip off her clothes. Exploring every single inch of her body with his mouth and hands until her body would shiver from ecstasy. He had spent the whole night watching her dance and having a good time. Until her impulsive ass found trouble again. It was not that he disagreed with what she did. It was just the fact that she did whatever she thought was right without thinking of the consequences. He didn’t have the luxury of acting out purely on gut feelings. Neither should his mate, he needed someone by his side who understood the burden of responsibilities. For the first time, he wondered if the moon goddess had been wrong about intertwining their souls. It would be good to distance himself from Lola for a while. He needed some time to think.
For the next couple of days, he stayed as far away from Lola as possible. He focused on training Marc instead and they spend most of their time in his office or the forest. Marc was truly bright, and Noah took the opportunity to shape him to his full potential. Hopefully that way Marc would be a valuable ally when he took over the Black Rain pack. They were just done for the day when Marc went for his daily run in the dark to keep his senses sharp. Noah had another task tonight. He had ordered Dan to stay watch tonight so he knew he wouldn’t be home. He went to Dan’s house and knocked on the door.
Deborah opened the door and Noah’s stomach dropped when he noticed her arms were covered in bruises. She looked at him with wide eyes, “What are you doing here Alpha Grey?”
Noah stayed outside because he knew Dan would smell it if he went into the house. He whispered, “I want you to know that I am not okay with Dan beating you. I have thought about a solution for the last couple of days. If you want, I can arrange a disappearance for you. I can get you a new life and identity in a human town far away from here. You could start over if you like.”
Deborah’s jaw dropped to the floor, “I…iii don’t know what to say Alpha Grey. I don’t know if I can do that start over, all on my own.”
He nodded, “I understand it is a lot to take in. Think about it and let me know when you made up your mind.”
“Okay,” she said before she looked left and right frightened before she shut the door.
Noah knew that there was nothing more he could do. He could take the first step, but he couldn’t force her to leave Dan. That initiative had to be hers. He was risking a lot with this and if anyone ever found out there would be major consequences from the Silver Snake pack. Separating mates was the highest treason and the law would allow Dan to sentence him to death by combat. But still, he couldn’t just watch her getting beaten until she was broken mentally and physically. He hated to admit that Lola hit a nerve by comparing him to his father.
The next day he found out that Deborah was the least of his problems though. That day Peter went missing after he had watch shift with Dan last night. Over the next couple of days, wolves kept disappearing from different packs. Noah arranged search teams to look day and night, but they never even found a trace. The other Alphas started to get restless and angry. With every day that passed Noah lost more control and respect from the other packs. His mind was solely focused on finding the missing wolves. Lola had tried to talk to him several times, but he had no time for childish fights right now. He stared at the board he had made with the pictures of the wolves that had disappeared. He wrote down the missing times and tried to find a connection between the wolves. So far it all seemed random and being responsible for his pack had never felt so heavy. Right now, all he knew was that he was running out of time.
