Sansa's Pov
The aura of the various flowers was giving the best scent experience in the backyard, and the sun was kissing goodbye to the cloudy sky.
I stood up, still stunned that I had been sold to an alpha. That was the most heartbreaking part for me because, regardless of why my parents made a deal with Xavier, I was the one who had been sold. This gave Xavier the legal right to claim me. That was painful to realize.
The breeze picked up. I came to a halt and turned to face her. Amara was the most genuine friend I had; she was always by my side, never leaving my arm.
"What if it's a boy?" I was curious.
Amara was watching my desperation and my interest in the topic, and she may have had some reservations about my curiosity.
I gathered more information. The more I discovered, the more I wanted to know. That conversation, as I had predicted, was not going to end soon.
"It doesn't matter; the boy would be claimed by the Oak pack the moment he was born. They would train him as a warrior and treat him as a pack member, and he would claim the bride, receiving the pronouncement of wonder if he did something to claim his bride. As a reward, he would demand."
I was disappointed. "If she were a girl, she'd be the bride; whoever is born will be claimed by the oak pack."
"That is how it works, and it is advantageous in numerous ways. Just consider the positives," Amara stated without realizing that the law had no positive impact on my life.
"What if it's a human?" I asked in the middle of the flow, not realizing I had just informed her.
Amara was staring right into my eyes. I felt I had offended her by bringing up a human subject. She might be doubting me at this point.
"Humans cannot be legal unless they are on our list of acceptable candidates." Amara gave me a brief look before speaking.
That's how I knew they didn't like humans; Edward was also disappointed when he discovered my hidden truth; he started hating me right then and there, and I could see the unspoken words right through his eyes.
Because I was Alpha Xavier's bride, he kept his mouth shut; otherwise, the hatred I saw in his eyes would have caused him to harm me.
I felt pressure on myself as I became increasingly stuck; I was half human and half werewolf, which would not be acceptable to all of them. How would they have reacted if they knew the truth about me?
They were completely unaware of the situation. That's why Xavier kept my identity a secret, but for how long?
Was Xavier aware that I was a half-human when he cut me to capture the vampires or was he previously unaware of my human blood?
Was he aware of human identity when he was bound by law, the pronouncement of wonder?
Xavier kept me in the dark, forcing me to fight my shadow; he did not care about my curiosities. He wanted to keep me busy while he went on a mission to find his brother.
He lied smoothly; he was good at acting, and being sincere was the best acting he had done.
I was almost there; I wanted to know why we were bound by the pronouncement of wonder, but I lost faith in him as he lied smoothly right in front of my eyes.
Would Xavier have let me go if I had told them all about my true identity, human blood?
Perhaps they would not have accepted me, forcing Xavier to leave me. That could have been the way I could have gotten out of there.
"This law is not a curse; it is intended to provide benefits. In some cases, the law makes no sense; this can be extremely frustrating for others, but it takes time to adjust." Amara stated
"What if the bride never accepts? She wants to flee or get rid of the place or whatever! She wants to end the relationship even if the law requires it." I was irritated.
"Most of them are happy after being claimed by their partner because they were living badly before meeting their partner; they had no hope of living, just like me," Amara's voice breaks.
"Can a pronouncement of wonder be broken? What if something happened and you couldn't follow the law?" I inquired.
"This connection is more powerful than any other in the world, something that has never happened in centuries. Even if you are married to another partner or the partner who is married to another, the law must be followed."
"That is so inhumane! I thought that was only for single people!" I was taken aback.
"Oak pack members are not permitted to marry apart from the pronouncement of wonder, even if the bride is already married to another partner, the Oak memb---" I interrupted her sentence in the middle.
"He would threaten or kill her partner to claim his bride!" I said
"That's correct," Amara said.
"Do you still believe that the law is beneficial? What about the bride who was forced to marry the oak member? Isn't it unjust?" When I was in the same situation, I was emotional.
"Life is unfair," Amara lamented.
Subconsciously, my attention was drawn to the sound of the waves crashing outside the massive wall. I was wondering if there was an ocean out there because the coldness was higher there than anywhere else.
"What if Xavier was bound by the pronouncement of wonder?" After a brief pause, I inquired.
"Then he must claim his bride," Amara explained. "If he is already married to you, he may leave you to claim his bride by law."
Her words astounded me. I was perplexed as to why Xavier had yet to reveal that we were bound by law. Was he planning to leave me because he didn't want to claim me as his bride under the law? Or was he thinking something that was beyond my comprehension?
I mostly left everything to time, and by the time I knew the truth—everything I wanted to know—I was waiting at the right time.
"Xavier is bound by the pronouncement of wonder, but he never revealed his bride; I hope he didn't find his bride, or else he'll leave you to claim his bride," Amara expressed sympathy to me.
I wished he could leave me, but I was bound by law to stay with Xavier. Even if he had a wife, he would have abandoned her to claim me. That was the law's power.
"Is there any way to escape that law?" I wanted to find a solution for myself.
Amara was silently watching me, wanting to study my mind when I had already demonstrated my desperation to learn the most important topics.
"No, there isn't; if you think that girl is in danger, stop worrying about her; she is young and unaware of the benefits of the pronouncement of wonder; she will understand by the time you don't worry."
I couldn't say anything else because I didn't want to alert her to my presence. I wondered if she would accept me if she knew I had human blood running through my veins.
"You are not taking care of yourself; He would be disappointed in us if we did not look after you," Amara spoke softly.
"I'm fine," I said slowly.
"Is that girl going to stay in your room?" Amara inquired.
"Can't she?" I inquired.
"That's your room, and you're the luna; do whatever you want, but please be mindful of the law." Amara was worried.
"I will," I stated.
