Sansa's Pov
My ears were listening to the melody of the long trees dancing as the breeze blew around them. The cloudy sky was filled with birds flying around.
I sighed, I was frustrated!
I had to hold myself for a long time because I had no one to share my pain with when I was going through the worst time of my life.
I'd never told anyone before. Amara was staring at me, curious and wanting to know my backstory when she told me about the best and worst memories she'd ever had.
"I haven't seen my mother's face in real life because she died shortly after giving birth to me." She was the first female friend to whom I revealed my most painful memory.
"I'm so sorry to hear that," Amara said, her eyes telling me she felt my pain.
"When I was the only female living with my grandfather and father, it was the worst experience I'd ever had. Mother is a blessing I felt at the time," I said.
"How did you handle the girl's stuff?" Amara was curious.
"I survived"
"I feel you," Amara responded.
"My grandfather didn't like me because he thought I was the unlucky one who took my mother's life; when I was born, my mother lost her breath," I said, my voice shaking.
"It's not your fault," Amara said, softly taking my hand in hers.
"My father used to say that he was the only one who loved me, cared for me, and protected me, but I lost him too one day." A single tear streamed from my eye.
"You are so fortunate to have had a father who loved and cared for you; my father never loved me, used me for his own gain, and never treated me properly." Amara was overcome with emotion.
"You have the fortitude to stand your ground." I placed a hand on Amara's shoulder.
"Life is the most important lesson to learn," Amara said.
"That's correct! We both began learning at a young age."
We had a simple and deep connection because she was the first female friend I had; I wanted to believe her, and I wanted to share the reason for my suffering with her.
I wanted to tell her that I was not a Luna but Xavier's hostage. a hopeless prisoner who attempted every possible escape route.
"You must be cautious when you are unfamiliar with the Oak Pack's traditions and culture; there are rules to follow that we cannot ignore at any cost," Amara said.
"I did what I had to do, what was right," I said when I realized she was referring to Hina indirectly.
"The Oak Pack is known for its traditions, and the pronouncement of wonder has been practiced for thousands of years," Amara said.
"It's been going on for centuries, and how many of them would have forced innocent women and girls, tsk tsk... My heart shivered as I considered the injustice." I was extremely dissatisfied.
I had never disliked the Oak Pack, but, Xavier, the traditions I was learning about were the most terrifying and unacceptable.
"Forcing someone against their will is a crime, and it's in no way right," I said.
"It's a law that was practiced by the ancestors of the Oak pack when all of the pack's female members were killed by vampires," Amara's words piqued my interest.
I realized vampires were the werewolves' oldest adversaries. By that time, old animosity was brewing. They attacked Alpha's bride now because they wanted to continue the battle.
"The male members had all lost their partners. Nobody wanted to offer female werewolves to the pack members because they had been mistreated by society for centuries."
"That's bad," I said
"The Oak Pack suffered greatly when everyone abandoned them because they were afraid of vampires." Her every word was breaking news to me, and I was eager to get my hands on the final piece of information.
"Why?"
"The oak pack burned the entire village and the witches alive, alerting vampires to their next target."
"How come they burned the witches alive?" My interest was growing.
"Nimue, the most powerful witch, had cheated on David Talbot, the Oak pack's alpha. She used his emotions to lure him into her trap before sacrificing him." Amara revealed a secret that no one was supposed to discuss.
"What? What made her do that?"
"A werewolf's blood is most powerful for a witch's ritual; she did not hesitate to kill the one she claimed to love; I heard they were the fairytale couple." Amara's gaze swept around.
"How could she have done that?
"She was a heartless bit**!" Amara expressed her displeasure.
I was unable to digest the unexpected. My lowered jaw was proof enough for my mind.
"Witches are not truly worthy; they use others for their rituals and benefits; she murdered the one she loved for her own benefit; they are slayers." Amara's words pierced my wounded heart.
The seed of doubt had been planted in my mind, and I was skeptical of Vera, who had promised to tell me about the only way she knew to get out of there.
I was having second thoughts that I ignored. A new battle had begun inside my head, which was increasing the pressure.
"In a rage, in retaliation for David, all the werewolves burned all the witches, not letting one go; killing witches alarmed the vampires, who thought werewolves were on a mission to finish all races except theirs," Amara explained.
The breeze was brushing against my skin, and the sun was about to set, bringing the golden hour in which we were standing to an end.
My breathing was slow at the time because my mind was filled with information that I wasn't supposed to have.
"The other battle began, and vampires killed all the female werewolves from the Oak pack in retaliation for the deaths of some of their lover's witches by Oak members," Amara explained.
"Loving the wrong person caused a war," I explained.
"In that case, yes. Other packs were not supporting the Oak pack, so after many years, the ancestors devised a solution when there were no female werewolves for the members of the Oak pack. When one of the ancestors, Duke Aandal, the Alpha of the Oak Pack, inadvertently demanded the Landlord's young daughter as a reward for his services by invoking The Pronouncement of Wonder," Amara revealed the most surprising truth.
"Demanded?" I was taken aback.
"The law was created by humans centuries ago, It is frequently used when one person comes to another's aid but the recipient has nothing to offer their savior in return. As a result, the savior can invoke the pronouncement of wonder" Amara said
The beginning of the law was incredible. how they applied the law to benefit their members. thought-provoking, but unhelpful to others.
My body became numb; I wasn't ready to learn about it, but my curiosity was killing me. I didn't know what to say in response to the shocking news.
"According to the law, a man who requires something, such as money, or who requires the assistance of another person on something, or who is saved by another, is required to give that person a blessing that neither party is aware of. The most common manifestation of the blessing is the saved man's firstborn child, whether conceived or born." Amara explained
I was thinking about my case, what happened when I was linked to Xavier as the pronouncement of wonder.
"How is that even conceivable? The firstborn is unaware that the child has been sold before birth." I was overcome with emotion.
"Duke, one of the Oak Pack's previous alphas, began to exploit that law. That has been the law in effect until now."
Did my mother or father sell me to Xavier? What was Xavier's connection to my parents? Did he threaten my parents?
