Chapter 31 Practice Walking
Bella was overwhelmed by humiliation and embarrassment.
She knew the president was speaking to her, but she wasn't listening. She just responded to him mechanically.
When she was left alone, she couldn't calm down.
Mrs. Wilson's disdainful face always came to her mind, and she felt uncomfortable as if sitting on a bed of nails.
She was so depressed that she was about to faint. Suddenly, she remembered the president said he wouldn't be here in the afternoon.
Bella composed her emotions.
She checked her to-do list to make sure she had no other tasks to complete this day.
Then she decided to take half a day off.
Time went by. Bella kept staring at the clock on the wall.
When the second hand of the clock pointed to twelve, she stood up like a spring, picked up her bag, and carried it on her shoulder while walking out of the office.
Bella drove home quickly.
Standing outside the door, Bella was shocked by what she saw. She froze on the spot.
Dressed in a green sweater, Edward held a crutch and moved his feet with difficulty in the garden.
From her angle, Bella could see Edward's well-defined side face and resolute expression.
Words couldn't describe how shocked she was.
It was the first time she had seen Edward stand there.
She felt she was watching a weak human being fighting against a big shark.
Bella opened the door and walked toward Edward. Her voice trembled as she said, "Edward."
However, as soon as she called his name, he slipped and fell to the ground.
Bella was startled. She cried in surprise, threw her bag, and rushed to Edward.
She looked at Edward up and down nervously, "Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Not far away, Andrew, who had been hiding in a corner, turned around.
He had to admit that Edward had excellent acting skills.
Bella felt so guilty.
It was because she suddenly called Edward's name that he fell to the ground.
If Edward got hurt, she would never forgive herself.
Edward immediately comforted her, "I'm fine."
Bella helped Edward to the wheelchair with a serious face and said, "Don't lie to me. You must go to the hospital immediately if you are injured."
Edward smiled helplessly, "Do you want me to get up and walk in front of you again?"
Bella shook her head.
She didn't want him to fall again.
She picked up the crutch on the ground and asked, "Why didn't you tell me you've been practicing walking?"
"I haven't practiced walking for many days. I wanted to tell you when I could walk steadily, but I didn't expect you to know it in advance." Edward seemed to be a little regretful because she had found out his secret.
He watched Bella put down the crutch and asked her, "Why did you knock off so early?"
Bella sighed and told Edward about the check Mrs. Wilson gave her.
Bella patted her forehead and said, "I was so stupid."
Mrs. Wilson was an unreasonable rich lady. She should have known that Mrs. Wilson wouldn't care about her feelings because she was poor.
She thought Mrs. Wilson gave her money as an apology, but she was humiliated again.
Bella vowed in her heart that she would never have unrealistic illusions about the rich again.
Edward looked at Bela with distress.
She was innocent, but she was involved in his relationship with Mrs. Wilson. Besides, Mrs. Wilson misunderstood and insulted her.
No matter how much he did, he couldn't make it up to her.
"Is your wish to open a small shop?" Edward asked gently.
Bella was immediately distracted.
She said with a very serious face, "It's a great wish. Think about it. If I realize this dream, I don't need to work for others anymore. Everyone has to call me boss."
Bella even imagined that when she became a boss, she would prepare a mask for herself, just like the president.
Edward pointed to him and asked, "What about me?"
Bella replied confidently, "Of course, you should call me boss, too."
"But I'm your husband, so I'm also the boss." Edward deliberately imitated her and looked serious.
Bella snorted, "You can be others' boss, but you have to call me boss."
Edward laughed, "You're more interested in becoming a boss than opening a shop, right?"
In the company, he was Bella's boss, and he didn't expect her to have such a wish.
Bella was a little embarrassed.
Her wish was to become a boss, which sounded a bit childish.
But she longed for such a life.
Moreover, she would be a nice boss, and she would not allow her employees to suffer the grievances she had suffered.
Bella had plenty of fight left in her. "I must work hard, save money and strive to be a boss!"
Her energetic look warmed Edward's heart. "I have to work harder than you."
Bella nodded hard and said, "Yeah, let's do our best!"
At night, after Bella fell asleep, Edward went to meet Mrs. Wilson.
The Wilson family lived in the center of an ancient castle. The big villa was surrounded by green trees.
On the brightly lit corridor, Edward's leather shoes hit the smooth marble floor, making a rattling sound and echoing in the spacious villa.
At the end of the corridor, there was a door carved with vintage patterns.
The door opened. Dressed in a claret nightgown, Mrs. Wilson turned around in front of the French window.
Andrew came out from behind Edward and put the gift in his hand on the table.
The gift was wrapped with a layer of smooth silk. Under the light, it had a fine gloss.
Edward signaled Andrew to open it. Andrew slowly lifted the silk, and a corner of the golden photo frame was exposed. When the silk was taken off, Mrs. Wilson saw what it was.
In the painting, a blonde woman dressed in complicated noble clothes was smiling blandly. As a noble lady, her smile was reserved, but it was full of sadness.
"Get out." Edward waved at Andrew.
"Okay." Andrew nodded and went out.
Mrs. Wilson couldn't wait to walk to the painting.
She enjoyed every detail of the painting and couldn't help sighing, "It's the portrait of Princess Catherine. I wanted it so much. It's indeed so gorgeous. The painter's talent came in the lines and colors."
Like her great-grandfather, Mrs. Wilson had the hobby of collecting works of art, and she heard about the portrait of Princess Catherine from her great-grandfather.
Edward brought the painting to her, which fulfilled the common wish of her and her great-grandfather.
Mrs. Wilson didn't want to look away from the painting. "The painting has disappeared for more than one hundred years. I had been looking for it. How did you get it?"
