Shane takes us to the rental place and he turns in the car. When he unlocks the passenger door, I climb up and lean over to unlock his. The door opens and Tanker jumps in before Shane gets in the seat.
He starts the truck up and we wait for everything to fill up before we hit the road. Once down the main strip, he pulls the truck off to the shoulder.
"Everything okay?" I look over to him.
"Oh yeah, I figure we can go in there real quick and get some subs for our dinner." Shane jumps out.
"Tanker stay." Shane lets him know since he was preparing to leap out my side once I climb down.
I don't think I will ever be confident to just jump out of this truck like Shane does. Not to mention, I am still in my summer dress and two inch heels.
Shane takes my hand and we just about run across the parking lot to the little sub shop, while he left the truck running.
"Is that safe?" I point to the truck.
"For a quick stop yes. I got eyes on the truck and even though some have stolen a semi, it is far and few between on people that can actually drive one to pull it off. Also my insurance covers if something like that was to happen, but this size town I don't have worries about it."
I nod understanding what he means. This town really doesn't have the crimes.
With us having the subs, I got slick and paid quickly since Shane had me put in what I wanted first.
"Here you go sir." The second guy hands the bag to Shane with his sub.
Shane looks at him funny.
"I done paid." I smirk and take the receipt quickly and dash back outside.
Shane is following in behind and I start laughing. I look for traffic in the parking lot but keep up my small running pace. I glance over my shoulder and Shane has picked up his pace. So I just make a dead run for the truck.
I laugh like a manaic once I get to the door and pull it open. Arms wrap around my waist and pulls me back into a hard chest.
"No fair!" I laugh. "I had just got up the second step."
"What's not fair is you paying for the subs." Shane chuckles and spins me around.
He sets me on the first step and I huff.
"Thanks now I have to climb this second one again." I sass.
"Hold onto the bar and place the sub on the dash." Shane instructs.
I don't ask questions but just stretch and place my food on the dash and hold onto the bar. His hand is on my butt and he simply lifts me up and I bend my legs to where I am right at the seat. I look back and Shane had stepped up to the first step and pushed me up at the same time.
"You were saying, little paws?" He smirks.
I gape at him as he jumps down from the step and closes my door. Shane rounds the truck and gets in quickly.
"I'll feed ya soon, sweet girl." Shane smirks and puts fingers under my chin. "Closes the mouth just for a bit more."
He is teasing me and I really enjoy this side of Shane.
"Tease." I huff.
"Says the woman who is wearing two inch heels and took off like a cheetah. Geez you can run as fast as a cougar. I don't think I even want to know how you can do that and I never once seen you work out either." Shane chuckles.
"I guess I got it naturally, because I typically hate to run." I shudder, earning a laugh from Shane.
In no time, Shane is pulling the driveway. We get out and I unlock the front door.
"Oh this is a spare key. I meant it the last time, you can move in here or well until we get the new house." I smile.
Shane puts it on his chain around his neck. "Fits nice with the storage key. Plus, I know it is the house key because it has a paw print on it." He laughs.
"I am an animal lover." I shrug.
"Hey I have an idea. Up for more adventures?"
"I always am with you what do you have in mind?" I watch him, grab the blanket off the couch.
"Is this one a favorite of yours?"
I shake my head. "Nope. Hang on a second." My phone starts ringing.
It is Gram, so I answer quickly. Gram and I talk for a few minutes and I laugh when she hangs up being happy.
"Well, I don't have to pick up Oreo or Fluffier tonight. Gram is wanting them to stay with her. I have wondered about rescuing her a fur baby, but she loves my two so much and just enjoys when they are over for sleepovers as she calls it."
"They are basically her grandbabies in a way." Shane laughs.
Tanker follows Shane when he opens the door, holding the blanket and a bag with our food and drinks.
"What are you planning?" I look at him as he waves for me to follow.
I follow him out the door and he uses his new key to lock it.
"You will see. Trust me?" He takes my hand in his free one.
"I trust you. Still for someone who has watched to many horror movies on her own, I'm nervous."
Shane stops and looks at me, only to start laughing.
"What?" I huff.
"You haven't been outside at night much." He laughs.
"Not in the woods." I shake my head and all but whisper.
"There is nothing for you to worry about."
"All expect for the wild life that have claws and razor sharp teeth. Didn't you know this part has wolves, bears, bobcats things that will attack humans. I'm all for animals but I'd prefer not to be close to those because they may eat me as a midnight snack." I whisper yell.
Shane let's out a bellowing laugh. I attempt to shush him but he just laughs harder, as we keep walking into the woods more.
"This is the spot." Shane looks up and smiles.
He lets my hand go and puts out the blanket, before pulling me over and helping me sit down. Tanker lays at the end of the blanket and just looks out into the forest. Shane hands me a drink and my sub before he gets his own.
The sun is so low that I can look up and see stars starting to show in the sky. It is the clear little section in the woods it's not big enough to be a meadow or clearing but it's wide to where there is a large portion of the sky open from the trees not being not so tall.
"I thought a little picnic and stargazing would be a nice ending to our date and day together." Shane smiles.
"It's perfect." I lean over and kiss him gently.
