Ella never received an answer to her question. After thinking about it, she realized that he was probably referring to the night they first met. Maybe she mumbled random things under the influence of alcohol.
Since Adrian seemed to have been travel-worn and Ella expected him to sneak into her room to sleep. But not long after he escorted her to her room, he left to work in the study.
When Ella woke up the next morning, Adrian was gone again.
On the breakfast table, Ronan and Kade glared at Ella grievously. There were deadly dark circles under his eyes.
Old Madam seemed to be in high spirits as she played with Riri and Lala, "You both did not rest properly?" She turned to both the men.
Ronan smiled bitterly and averted his gaze.
Kade clung to his grandmother, "Grandma, why don’t you talk to brother..."
"I don’t know what this is about but Little Ian always thinks for your good," Old Madam neatly dismissed her younger grandson with a shrug.
"Hmph! When Grandpa comes back, I can talk to him..."
’’You can dream about it," Old Madam rolled her eyes a little, "I will make sure your grandpa doesn’t meddle in your business."
"How about you, Little Ella? Did you sleep properly?"
Ella blinked. For some reason, she felt like the Old Lady’s eyes were sparkling with a knowing glint, "I slept very well. It’s all thanks to you for arranging the room so beautifully..."
’’That’s good," Old Madam smiled ear to ear.
"Professor Jenny!" Esther stood in front of the classroom with a polite smile, "If you could step aside for a moment...?"
"Class, excuse me for a moment," The moment Jenny stepped out of the room, her eyes narrowed, "What do you think you are doing?"
"I called you yesterday. But you did not come to our chosen place to meet me."
Jenny held her hand and dragged her gently to the side, "Esther, here in this place, you should remember your boundaries. I am your professor and you are my student."
’’I don’t know all that. In my eyes, you are just my future father-in-law’s mistress."
’’You..." Jenny laughed, "Very well. I have already said it before but let me make it clear to you again. I don’t see Ella as a threat. In no time, she will be out of this university and out of my life so I see no reason to act against her right now..."
"And you... should stop pestering me. If Mo Jun and Mo Lia know that you are going behind their backs to interact with their father’s mistress, I doubt they would be fine with it."
Esther’s face paled a little and Jenny smiled.
With a graceful posture, she returned to the class.
Esther looked at her retreating back and suddenly, she noticed something from the corner of her eyes.
Esther immediately hid behind a wall.
Kade and Ella walked in together in the hallway, "I don’t even know how I offended you," Kade chased after Ella, his face sullen, "But whatever it is, I can apologize."
Ella arched an eyebrow, "Would you be so kind?"
’’What do you want?" Ella sighed helplessly and halted in her tracks, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Old Madam King insisted on keeping Riri and Lala for a few days to accompany her.
And since this guy was also coming over for classes, she had to share the car with him.
And throughout the way, he was relentlessly pestering her.
At this point, Ella was certain that he needed something from her.
"Ah? How do you know that I want something?" Kade clutched his golden hair, "Are you a witch?"
Ella turned to leave.
’’Hey, hey, hey, wait! I was just kidding again. Why are you so easily offended?"
"Easily offended?" Ella turned to the man, ’’The moment you open your mouth, you take a dig at me as if your life depends on it. Talk to any other girl like that and see if she slaps you till you see stars. Good for you that it is me, the most calm, peaceful and patient lady here on Earth that you don’t get those slaps."
When Ella turned to leave again, Kade blocked her path, "Fine, fine, my bad. I won’t do it again. Just talk to my brother for us."
Now that got Ella’s attention?
Kade inhaled a deep breath as Adrian’s cold declaration from last night reverberated in his mind.
’Make it to Top 25 or stay in the main mansion quietly forever.’
Then Adrian turned to Ronan, ’Step back from your position as the chief doctor and learn some manners first.’
By the time Kade finished narrating the entire event dramatically, he expected Ella to be half in tears.
But when he looked at her, she was grinning wide, "Is that all?" She even dared to ask as if there should have been something more to it!
Kade looked at her in disbelief, "He asked me to be in the Top 25, not in the Top 50 this time!"
’’Then study~ What are you wasting this busy lady’s time for?" Ella flipped her hair and walked away.
Hidden behind the wall, Esther scrolled through the pictures she had just clicked. And her lips slowly curved up.
From where she stood, Esther couldn’t hear a word of what Kade and Ella talked about. But it was obvious that the university god who was unapproachable to others was surely very cozy with her sister.
No wonder her elder sister was missing from dorms last night and she also happened to have some help in protecting her account.
So, this is the backer her sister found?
Esther tapped on Adrian’s number and quickly sent a long text.
Following that, she attached the pictures but a notification popped up—
Esther checked the network and tried again.
Esther’s fingers trembled. She typed in another text and—
Esther’s heart trembled. Did... Did Adrian block her?
Her fingers curled into a fist and red flashed in her eyes.
With shaky fingers, Esther dialed a number.
The call was answered on the first ring.
’’You messed up yesterday. Make it up to me today," Esther arched her neck, "I won’t treat you badly as well.’’
