The call disconnected. Ruby glanced at the black screen and her lips parted.
After Ella posted her selfie on her account, she had not expected a major response to it.
She had been inactive for a while now so she thought that her followers(haters) must be inactive too.
But oh dear, was she wrong?
Ella’s phone exploded with notifications the entire evening to the point that her phone hung.
On her way back to the university, she couldn’t resist peeking at a few comments floating above.
[Am I seeing things?]
[This shameless woman is really posting herself, huh?]
[This sister above, do you recognize this person?]
[Eh... Who is this grizzly bear?]
At this point, the initially ’I am calm and composed’ Ella became ’uncalm’. She turned off the notifications, put her phone in flight mode and threw it inside her bag.
Grizzly bear? You, your friends, and your ancestors are grizzly bears!
Adrian occupied the head chair of the dining table.
In front of him, a variety of clean and healthy dishes were served. But not a single dish was touched.
Even the spoon had not budged from its place.
The chef was sweating by this point. In the past few weeks, the Second Master had shown signs of a better appetite and he was hopeful.
But the past two days, the man seemed to detest the sight of food.
Totally on the verge of tears, he looked towards Ji Yan just as the rest of the servants.
Ji Yan avoided everyone’s gaze just as he had done in the company when the employees had given him puppy eyes.

Their Boss was in a bad mood because his wife was away. What did they expect him to do?
Adrian, who was sitting like an ice sculpture, moved.
Everybody held their breaths as they watched the tiny kitten place her paws on Adrian’s boot.
Adrian’s hand stretched towards it.
Was he about to strangle the kitten?
Ji Yan’s feet moved before his mind could, "Second Master, you can’t—’’
Suddenly, Ji Yan’s words came to a halt.
Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Adrian lifted the kitten and placed her on the dining table.
Riri came running with his tail swaying.
People in the living room looked on, holding their breaths.
The kitten nuzzled towards Adrian’s hand.
With a small frown on his face, Adrian raised his hand and stroked her head.
Lala let out two more ’Meows’ as she completely nuzzled her little body against Adrian’s palm.
Ji Yan rubbed his eyes.
Who is this person...? Where is the real second master?
The servants finally breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that their second master did not seem to be in a bad mood.
Suddenly, Adrian’s voice dropped in the silent living room.
Everyone became nervous again.
There was no question as to who the ’her’ was in Adrian’s life.
Ji Yan dialled Ella’s number.
The call got disconnected.
Ji Yan’s hand trembled.
’’Maybe there’s some network issue.’’
With a shaky hand, Ji Yan dialled the number again.
With every disconnected call, the air in the living room became denser, filling it with a death miasma.
Nobody dared to budge from their spots.
After the 257th call, Ji Yan shivered, "Second Master, shall I dispatch people to bring her here?"
When Adrian remained silent, Ji Yan burned three incense sticks for Ella. Miss Yu, ah, Miss Yu, what must you cause trouble for yourself?
Ji Yan was just about to call his people when there was a soft ’clang’.
Adrian picked up the spoon and began eating calmly.
"_" Ji Yan was bewildered. What was happening? Wasn’t the second Master angry just now?
"Second Master, shall I pass the order to bring Miss Yu here?" After a beat of hesitation, Ji Yan couldn’t hold his tongue back.
Adrian’s jaw clenched.
Ji Yan held his breath.
After a moment, Adrian’s expressions relaxed as he calmly spoke, "Two people in a relationship should treat each other with respect, have trust for each other, and respect each other’s boundaries."
Adrian’s words rendered everyone speechless.
After his initial shock, Ji Yan felt like these words sounded awfully familiar. Where... Where... Oh, isn’t this what Ella had said in front of the Old Madam when the latter pointed out the age gap between her and the second master?
Clueless to the storm that brewed and passed in the Eve Mansion, Ella slept like a baby.
The next morning, she proceeded with her morning run as usual. On her way back, she bumped into Mo Jun. But Ella ran around in circles till he lost sight of her.
Eventually, she would be crossing paths with Mo Jun. And whether or not he was fully involved in her and Ruby’s kidnapping, he would still pay the price for it.
But now was not the time to cross paths with him.
After Ella took a shower, she got dressed in an oversized black hoodie paired with cute blue pants, braided her long hair, did her skincare and clicked a selfie of herself.
Avoiding the hate comments spamming her account, Ella posted another selfie on Day 2 with the caption: [It’s barely morning and I know you all are missing me already. So, here I am~]
It was at that moment that Ella noticed a series of texts on her number. There was a series of missed calls from Adrian last night.
Ella’s eyes widened. Crap!
She was so frustrated that she put her phone on flight mode and slept like there was no tomorrow.
Ella was surprised how people were not sent here by this point to take her back to the Eve Mansion.
Just as she was thinking about the solution to this disaster, her phone buzzed.
It was a text from Ji Yan: [Miss Yu, we are outside the campus.]
Far from Ella’s university campus, an unexpected person arrived in Vermilion City.
