Chapter 9
“Little wrench, if you have a death wish, don’t bring me along to your grave! You, are you trying to burn me to death?” Seeing the fire that was spreading all around her, Li Shi was finally completely afraid . She screamed and tried to crawl away, her face was completely filled with terror .
With the help of the light from the fire, she walked towards Li Shi . She forcefully pushed the drawer and caused it to fall directly on Li Shi’s broken leg . “Ah……Ah……”
Her shrill scream caused the ears to hurt and the sound travelled far and wide in the quiet night .
“Yao……Yao Er……” Su Qing was trembling greatly, her eyes were filled with turmoil as she looked at Mu Yunyao .
Mu Yunyao looked up, her venomous expression completely disappearing, tears immediately flowed from her eyes, “Mother, I had no choice, this was just to protect myself . Please, believe me, I would never hurt you . ”
She was afraid of Su Qing thinking that she was too brutal and that she was a cold-blooded creature . However, she had no choice, she could not possibly let Su Qing die four days later . Thus, she had to change . Even if this change would cause her hands to become bloodied, she would never resign to an ill fate . So, she had to make use of Li Shi to get rid of Zhang Caizhu . That way, she and her Mother would be safe .
“Yao Er, don’t be scared, please don’t be afraid . Mother was the one who set the fire, Mother was the one who hurt her . Go, you must leave immediately!” Su Qing grabbed Mu Yunyao into an embrace . She was afraid, so afraid to the point of her legs nearly giving way . Even speaking proved to be difficult . But letting her view Mu Yunyao in a bad light was something that was not possible for her, “Yao Er, take this chance to escape, the further the better, never come back again!”
Su Qing looked at Li Shi with immeasurable hatred . Her own emotions had always been very mild, but towards this abusive Mother-in-law who even wanted to sell her and her daughter off, for the first time, she hated someone to the point where her heart bled .
For many years, Mu Cheng and Mu Yunyao were the centre of her world . Now, with Mu Cheng dead, her heart had broken . Still, she had to remain strong to protect Mu Yunyao as a mother! Even if she had to sacrifice her own life, she would definitely push Mu Yunyao out of this hell!
“No, Mother, please relax . We will not die . This time, we will live comfortably . The only people dying are the ones who have wronged us so!” Mu Yunyao’s cold gaze rested on Li Shi .
The air during winter was very dry . Adding on to the fact that the house was made up of very old wood, even a small spark would successfully lead to a monstrous fire . Not long later, even the drawer on the floor was on fire .
Li Shi screamed until her throat was sore . At first she had been spitting insults left and right, but now, she pleaded, “Yao Er, I am your Grandma, you must save me, save me!”
“Grandma, yesterday, Mother knelt down and begged you not to sell us off, but you did not agree . Do you think I would save you?”
“I will not sell you, from now onwards, us three will depend on each other . ”
“Ha! That sounds nice, but coming from you, I find it hard to believe it . But do not despair, I will not let you die . ” At least, for now .
As she spoke, they heard the cries of the villagers from outside the house, yelling about putting out the fire quickly . The house was falling apart .
A wooden plank that was on fire fell in front of Mu Yunyao . Su Qing wanted to pull her away but Mu Yunyao did not budge, “Mother, don’t be scared, I will protect you . ”
Mu Yunyao looked at the wooden plank on the floor . She gritted her teeth and grabbed it!
A sizzling sound came from the point of contact, the smell of burnt flesh was painfully obvious . Mu Yunyao bit her teeth to the point of breaking skin .
Su Qing cried in alarm, “Yao Er!”
Mu Yunyao’s face was as white as a ghost . Her palm was a mess . Mu Yunyao touched Su Qing’s face, leaving soot and blood on her face . Then, she went to push at the drawer . “Mother, help me free Grandma!”
“Yao Er……”
“Mother, trust me!” Time was running out, she had no time to explain .
Li Shi was frightened out of her wits, “Monster, you are a monster, help, help! You little wretch, you little whore, you unlucky thing, get away, get away from me!” If Mu Yunyao could be this cruel to her own body, what could she be other than a monster!
Mu Yunyao’s expression was icy cold . She had already lifted one side of the drawer . Upon hearing Li Shi’s words, she immediately let it go . ‘Crack!’ Li Shi’s broken keg was about to split into two . The sheer pain and shock caused her to faint .
Su Qing helped Mu Yunyao push the drawer to the side . Then, they started to drag Li Shi towards the door .
