I sat on the seat staring at Amanda's calm face emotionally, she looked peaceful even in what she's going through.
I held her hands tightly and cried silently.
Max showed up and was kind enough to bring me what to eat which I refused. I couldn't eat when she was in this state of the situation.
The doctor came in and told me have used more than my time and I wish they could let me stay all night with her there.
I went out of the room glancing back at her as the doctors checked on her.
I went back to the waiting room where Annie sat quietly on the seat.
"Go home," I said to her as I sat close by her side.
"No, I don't feel like!" She said dryly.
Her face was swollen and her eyes red already and probably she hasn't eaten anything.
"Please, go home it's getting late," I said.
"It's horrible! I can't just go home when my best friend is helpless," She said wearily as tears formed in her eyes.
"I know it's hard and we will have to wait for Amanda to get better, she wouldn't be happy if she sees you like this," I said trying to reason with her.
She sniffed and wiped her face.
"She's the only true friend I have." She started as she smiled bitterly.
"She's all one can ever ask of as a friend, caring, supportive, annoying and weird." She laughed sadly as I felt a lump in my chest.
" She's always there when I needed, always standing strong at my back when I feel timid to do somethings but it hurts so much to see her helpless on a damn bed!" She said trying her best to compose her voice as she used her palms to wipe her tears.
"She will be fine," I assured as my heart ached bitterly.
" Yes, she will. Amanda is always the strong type, she will make sure she fight it through and let nothing bring her down." She said as a slight smile formed on her lips.
I smiled and patted her back before standing up to meet Max who looked sad himself.
"It's such a pain this happened to her." He said bitterly.
I nodded and stared blankly.
We sat there looking sad and awkward as each of us prayed silently in our hearts.
This was the worst moment of my life. I've never expected something like this to happen to the person I love the most.
I collected some food Max brought along with and gave it to Annie to eat which she refused at first but after much persuasion, she started eating.
I couldn't tell her about what the doctor said about Amanda's health especially with the one that involves her losing her memory.
Annie will be saddened to the heart if she realizes her best friend won't remember her anymore but I have a strong feeling she will.
It was night already and I have to look for a way to get Annie to go home.
She looks so tired and a dose of on the seat countless times but she's adamant about staying.
"Annie you have to go home and rest," I said as I held her hands.
She nodded her head in a no answer and I was fed up.
Just as stubborn as Amanda.
"I can't go home, I will probably have the worst nightmare," She said wearily.
" Then Max will take you to my house, he can watch over you," I said.
" I don't want to meet that murderer, I could kill her if I set my eyes on her." She said furiously.
" She's gone, she packed all her stuff out already," Max answered.
" You heard that, so go home and rest, Max will show you to your room, and tomorrow you can come to check on Amanda," I said after seeing she's already buying it.
"Okay!" She said and stood up.
"What about you?" Max asked looking at me worriedly.
" Don't worry about me, I'll be fine, just get some clothes for me to wear tomorrow," I said with a sad smile.
" Okay!" He said and led Annie out of the hospital.
I sighed and slumped on the seat as I watch the nurses and doctors go about their work and patients being attended to.
It was late now and almost everyone had disappeared in my front.
"Sir, you have to go home." A doctor said.
I looked at him tiredly, " I can't." I said.
"Please you have to!" He said and he was getting me angry the more.
"I can't!! I can't leave this forsaking place when the person I love most is dying," I said as I banged my fist on the seat.
I sighed and used my palm to brush my hair back.
"Let me take you to her room." The doctor said after looking at me concernedly.
I stood up happily.
"Thank you so much," I said, he nodded and I followed him.
We got to her room.
"I'm sorry for the way I talked harshly with you was just stressed out." I apologized.
" I understand just to make sure you don't disturb her." He said and left.
I got into the room and went straight to Amanda's bed.
Watching her like this made my heart weep so much and shattered.
I really missed her, her smiles that kept me warm, her laughs and giggles that gave me joy, I missed every single thing about her but here she is helpless on a bed.
I knelt on the ground close to her bed and held her hands.
"Lord God please let her get well soon and remember everyone she loves," I said praying for the first time and crying my heart out to God.
