The car drove into an island with the highest barrier Kate has ever seen or was it a duplicate of the walls of China?
Then the car came to a stop. The next thing she heard was the sound of a door opening.
" Mr. Wilson is waiting for you" she glared at him then stepped down from the car to look around. To her surprise, David was watching her.
" This way Miss Kate" came Logan's irritated voice which she ignored sauntering in while he trailed behind.
" We can always work things out don't you think? Oh and this is Alex Gregory. Mr. David has assigned him to you. So don't even try to escape" Kate stopped in her track, veered around glaring at him.
" Know your place, Logan. Just because you've been with him for a long time doesn't guarantee anything. I might change that and watch the way you address me. I'm getting out of here once I'm done talking with your Mr. Wilson just so you know. Imbecile" different lines showed in his face in anger thus watched her walk away proudly.
This isn't right. She has done something terrible if she's that confident he tells himself turning back to return to town.
David has fallen prey. She has plans for him and they weren't good ones.
" Alex I suppose" she started as he nods as if she could see him.
" Aren't you too old for this? This isn't a place for an old man"
" I'm not old. I'm good at this"
" So, you got nothing to lose? No family to miss you? No kids? She stopped walking to observe his reaction and smiled she was right. He had a family.
" How old is he?
" I don't know"
" A widower I guess" he shook his head pushing the door open.
" We're here Miss" she stared at him for some seconds and stepped to find David sitting carefree behind his desk.
" What's the meaning of this David? Are you crazy? Who do you think you are? He chuckled pointing to the chair beside him.
" The mafias are leaving one after the other. What have you been doing about it? Whoring around with Alvin Reagan? Looking for a dead child? You're the crazy one" she stomped her hands on the desk which reverberated in the room.
" That's not my problem. Whether I whore around with Alvin or not shouldn't be your problem either. I kept my promise. You just couldn't handle a rival. Just some crisis and you're losing patrons. What a disgrace" he wasn't so cool and reserved anymore as he stood up too.
" That's because you betrayed me. Tell me, Kate, why are the mafias leaving? Where are they going to? She simply glared at him taking a seat.
" Isn't that your job? What? Are you going to torture me till I spill? You'd be digging your own grave" he laughed out loud which had her furrowing her brow.
He laughed so hard that his jaw clenched.
" You seem to have forgotten something. I have you as leverage. If I'm going down then you're coming with me. Someone he loves. A part of him will die with me. Do you catch my drift beautiful Katie? She didn't look surprised but she had no intention of being his prisoner thus decided to play along.
Perhaps she changed her mind.
Alvin only got to him because she assisted. Doesn't he know that?
" Stupid of you but I'll keep that in mind. Can I go now?
" Not until you talk to the mafias"
" Accept it, David. You have lost. They're humans you know. You can't keep telling them what to do because of some ports. If I were you I'll become an apprentice to Alvin. Tell him to teach you though I doubt he will do that with your arrogance"
" You think I didn't? He wouldn't"
" I can see why," she said sarcastically.
" Are you doing it or not?
" Not. let me rephrase that. I'm done helping you Dave. Do your worse"
" What do you mean do your worse? He asked suddenly.
" You don't know? Perhaps I should get you a dictionary"
" Explain it to me? Stop playing games with me. I can assure you won't be able to win" he snapped.
" Wanna bet? She whispered enjoying his outburst.
It finally dawned on her that she didn't know him. He has been wearing a mask for four years leading her on.
" Don't bet with me Kate cos you might regret it" Kate giggled meeting his eyes.
" The more I want to have this bet. I'm afraid you underestimate me too much. Don't you want to see my potential? I might surprise you" his thumb and index finger were on her chin grabbing it then he caressed it.
" You're daring the devil. I don't play by the rules. I always get what I want" he tells her leaning to kiss her but she held him back.
"Neither do I but don't cross me, David. We don't want to be enemies now do we? She whispered as the word enemies rolled out of her tongue coquettishly.
He was too easy.
" So what are we betting on? She burst out laughing then flipped her hair.
" Make a guess" he was about to speak when Alex entered.
" Excuse me, Sir, Mr. Logan is on the phone. He said it's important" all this he said with lingering eyes on Kate as if giving her a stern warning.
Kate furrowed her brows watching as David collected the phone from him placing it on his ears.
" This better be good Logan" he threatened staring at Kate who could tell whatever Logan was telling him had something to do with her.
Not only did his face wrinkle, but his nose was also flaring up with his eyes red with rage.
The truth is she wasn't scared but worried that she won't be leaving anytime soon and that wasn't how she expected it to turn out.
Way to go Logan but you can't do anything about it' she reasoned waiting for him to finish.
" What did you do? He snapped grabbing her forcefully.
" Did what? What are you talking about?
" Why did you tell Genesis to bid for Alvin's ports? And you convinced the mafias not to help me? You bitch" he cussed swelling up.
" What about you? You turned my best friend against me. Used her. To what aim? To Get Alvin to hate me so that you can use me as your pawn to destroy my husband? Then you killed Dante and Simon then made me hate Alvin for it. All those years I spent suffering in his hands, you were celebrating waiting for a chance to play superman. Don't you deserve it? I'm just getting started" David's heart almost leaped out of his chest as she narrated his wrong to him like a book but how did she find out?
" Alex, you know what to do" was the only thing he said as Kate stepped backward.
" Say something, you bastard. I'm not going to rest until you're dead. You'll pay for Dante's death. You'll pay for everything" he turned his back to her then closed his eyes ignoring her insults.
" You ruined my life for some few cash? I'm going burn it to the ground while you watch. I'm going to crumble your empire. It's a promise" she stopped moving as Alex winked at her indicating she should play along thus injected her with liquid while she slumped to the ground but he held her.
" Take her upstairs and assign boys to watch her. I'll have your head if she leaves" he ordered suddenly craving for cigarettes.
