I open my eyes to the ray of sun flickering on my face through the small parted side of the curtain at the window and I realise that I'm on the bed in a medium-size room and I look around to see few things in the room, the TV standing on the mini-fridge and that's beside the window, but its curtains are drawn causing the room to be a bit dark but for the small sunlight penetrating through it. There is an open door to the right and a wardrobe standing beside the bed. Am I in a hotel? I panic and get up quickly wondering what happened and trying to remember the last thing I did before blacking out.
I was outside my... Taylor's house and I remember Keenan coming over and threatening to take me along from there either consciously or unconsciously.
Oh shit.
The son of a bitch knocked me out! I get up in a haste only to find my nose hurting badly. He must have broken it with his fist. Why would he hit me that hard, why would he want me to come with him in the first place? Why would he even care?
Last time I checked we weren't friends anymore.
The door opens and Keenan enters, holding a bowl of water in his left hand and a towel in his right hand. He is still wearing the same clothes from last night, maybe he slept in the outer room. He sees me and he grins widely probably at how horrible I look now.
"Good morning, princess." he teases and my face heats up both in anger and in embarrassment, I'm going to fucking kill him.
"You fucking knocked me out?!!" I roar, getting off the bed in one movement and striding towards him.
His eyes widen in panic and he shakes his head, taking a step back, "I didn't knock you out, I did what was necessary."
"By knocking me out you prick!" I cuss angrily, glaring at him.
"You seriously were not expecting to sleep outside the gate were you?" he brow rises curiously and when I don't respond it somewhat answer his question. "You know the consequences of being exposed!" He exclaims like he's the one being put in danger.
I rolled my eyes, if I wanted to be lectured I'd go to my mom, she does a great job at that.
"It's none of your fucking business, besides what was I supposed to do?"
"Call me, you moron!" he snaps and drops the water down on the bed. I see the expression on his face seem to have changed and he is now wearing a slightly bruised and hurt look.
There was a time he would have been the first I'd call in times like this but that was long ago and now I don't know if I want to or if I even should.
"Why would I do that," I question with a frowning face.
He huffs heavily, placing his hands on his waist. "Seriously? I'm your best friend, or at least your friend... I kinda thought that something was there."
My heart melts greatly at how Keenan still chooses to come to my aid even when I'm not worth it most times. It is a wonder that after everything I've done to him and everything he's been through, he still sees me as his friend. My anger decreases and I begin to feel pain and remorse for the way I've acted.
My eyes drop down to the floor in guilt and shame, "I thought I lost that privilege four years ago." I murmur to myself lowly.
"What are you talking about?"
I roll my eyes, "Don't act like you don't know, Keenan, I betrayed both you and Taylor when I chose to believe lies over the truth that was right in my front. You came to me, you told me nothing happened, you told me Taylor loved me and was faithful and I didn't listen to you."
His gaze moves from me to the other side of the room, where they close to me, but I see the trail of guilt that registered in them. "It wasn't all a lie, I fell for your girl and I did what a best friend shouldn't do, I went after her."
"It was never your fault, I was the first that did what a friend shouldn't do when I decided to get between you and Phoebe." I retort, and his eyes gaze return to me and they spark and they look at me as if surprised that I remember that.
His eyes then narrow a little, before trying to argue reasonably, "You were doing your duties as an older brother."
"Fucking bullshit." I cuss, "I broke both you and Phoebe's heart and trust, I made you into the man you are today and I've been looking at your errors for so long I forgot about mine. I hurt Phoebe and I made her hate you even when this was all my doing. I've never liked to play the bad guy, but that was what I was and yet you chose to be my friend."
"Rory-" he begins to leave, but I don't let him finish because I'm not yet done.
"I never got to truly apologized for everything I did to you, so I'm sorry, Keenan, for everything."
He smiles genuinely and I see his blue eyes grow glassy and he laughed, "I've never held it against you, but I forgive you anyway." he says, and I hug him before he can say any other word.
He chuckles in surprise, "Okay, buddy,"
"Thank you for taking care of Reign for me," I tell him, patting his back.
"She is as much my kid as she is yours, Rory," He taps my back and I pull away.
I shake my head, "Still, thank you."
He smiles at me kindly, "You're welcome, let's treat your nose now."
