Derek dashed down the stairs, taking it two at a time, he ran into Mary who was carrying drinks to the sitting room, spilling it all over him, she would have fallen if he hadn't held her by the shoulders to steady her, "I'm sorry" he quickly apologized. She observed him for a second, "is everything okay Sir? You look pale" Derek shook his head, his head pounding furiously in his chest, "I just got a call that my wife is in city memorial hospital, she's been shot"
"What!" She gasped, completely dropping the tray holding the glasses of juice and tears immediately brimming in her eyes
Without waiting for Mary's response, he dashed off and heard her vaguely saying to him to change his clothes and also Marcella running towards her and asking her what happened, without beckoning to his driver, he got into the driver's seat and drove away.
He wasn't allowed to go into Kathleen's room when he got to the hospital as she has been prepared for surgery, he watched Kathleen through the glass door, his heart constricted as he watched her lying on the bed looking so pale and helpless, shortly, she was wheeled out to the operation room and Derek followed her until they got to the theater before he was stopped at the door by the nurses.
"What the heck is the meaning of this? How dare you throw away my drink" Marcella raged at Mary who was still shivering from the news she just heard from Derek, "I'm sorry ma'am, I got flustered by the news that ma'am Kathleen was rushed to the hospital" she squeaked bending to pick the shattered glasses on the floor. Marcella eyed her, what a piece of good news after a long time, she wished Kathleen would just die but that lady seems to have nine lives, and right now she would see to it that Kathleen doesn't return back to the house, she would have to finish her off first, she would just have to wait for the right opportunity and this time, there would be no mistake. She glanced at Mary who has just finished picking off the broken glasses and was about to leave, "what hospital is she?" She asked feigning concern
"City memorial" Mary replied innocently and went out when Marcella simply nodded.
Marcella brought out her phone immediately Mary was out of sight, "I have a job for you, and this time I want no mistake" she said to the person on the other end, "let's meet for your job description" she hung up the phone and laughed excitedly, luck was surely on her side and she won't let the opportunity slip through her fingers.

Kathleen mom soon rushed to the hospital, she had been informed by Derek that her daughter has been shot, she couldn't believe who would do such a thing to her daughter, "where's my daughter? How's she? She bombarded Derek as soon she entered the hospital with Donald, "she has been taken to the ICU but no one is allowed to see her, her condition is still critical" Derek explained, he suddenly turned and blew the wall, he was feeling so frustrated, he should have been there to protect her, he doesn't know what he would do if he loses her, he won't be able to bear it, tears dropped down his eyes as Kathleen's mom quickly seized his hand to stop him from blowing the wall again, there were bruises on his knuckles, "please don't be like this, I believe my daughter will be fine" she said amidst sob, she only wished her daughter happiness at this point, her precious had gone through a lot and she had failed as a mother, she was never there for Kathleen since she allowed Donald into their lives, instead she had always followed all Donald's order putting her daughter's happiness at the back, she could only hope Kathleen forgives her for neglecting her, st least, seeing how Derek loves Kathleen soothes her mind, right now she only wished them happiness and now Kathleen has been shot, she just have to hope that she pull through this, she kept assuring Derek that Kathleen would be fine but deep down she also needed such assurance.
It's been weeks since Kathleen's surgery and she was already doing quite alright, her mother was always beside her and she was happy because she hadn't seen that side of her mother for a long time, she was caring and attentive and Kathleen couldn't help but think of those moments before Donald arrived into their lives and took her mom's affection away from her, her mother became someone who lives only for Donald and doesn't dare go against him, she was grateful for this opportunity. She decided to go for a walk around the hospital and her mother immediately offered to wheel her out, they were just coming out from her room when she almost ran into someone, covered with blood been wheeled away, he was screaming in pain all the while as he was taken away, shaken by the sight of blood, she decided against going out and went back inside.
Somewhere in the ward close to Kathleen, the man Marcella had sent smiled evilly as he was given a bed, so far, his plans were working perfectly fine as he had gotten himself attached to the room beside hers, all he had to do now was to carry out the plan, he frowned at the throbbing he felt at his thigh, he had intentionally injured himself on the thigh just so he could be brought into this hospital, it was all part of the plan, "your days are numbered Kath, watch out because you will also pay for this wound on my thigh, I'll receive my pound of flesh from you" he sighed as he settled deep into the bed as the Anaesthesia given to him finally kicked in and he yawned drowsily as his eyes dropped closed.
