Derek was blindfolded by a man as soon as he got to the address and was led into the building, the blindfold was removed when he was inside and the sight that befell him made his heart sink, he, first of all, saw just the gun pointed at Kathleen's head, his eyes traveled the arms that held the gun and anger lit his eyes, "Dave? How dare you?" He whispered furiously and took a step towards him but he was kicked hard by the man who brought him in and he fell in his face, "this is no time for you to get angry son" Marcella's voice said from behind him a split second
before she came into view, "you're behind the kidnapping?" Derek whispered unable to believe what was before him, "how dare you" he gritted
"I dare" she replied furiously, "and you must do everything I say if you want to keep her alive
"What do you want?" He stared at Marcella angrily and she smiled, "now you're talking" she brought out some papers and threw at him, "it's simple, sign these documents stating that you're giving all the Deloux's properties to me"
"What? You asshole" Derek gritted
"Sign it or she dies" she stated as Dave cork his gun and Kathleen couldn't stop the whimper that escaped, "you shouldn't have come here Derek, I won't let you give your mother's inheritance to her murderer"
Derek's eyes widened at Kathleen's words and she stared at Marcella, "loose her and let her go then I'll sign it"
Marcella snorted but gestured for Kathleen to be loosed but was still in Dave's clutches, he collected the documents from Marcella and then everything happened so fast, Kathleen kicked Dave at the same time dropping down as his hold loosened at the unexpected kick, his finger pulled the trigger but missed his aim as it hit the man on his forehead and he dropped dead, Kathleen was at Dave's feet and but before he could release another bullet, this one aimed at her, Derek was there, kicking the gun from his hand and punched him, Dave staggered back, his head reeling and aimed a blow at Derek, not meeting his aim but catching him by the shoulder, Derek charged at him and hit him on the stomach with his head and they both fell on the floor, out of the corner of her eyes, Kathleen saw Marcella, racing for the gun that had fallen and she dived at it too, getting to the gun a split second before Marcella, she aimed at Marcella, "time out, stop or I'll pull the trigger" she shouted and without turning her gaze from Marcella, heard the stillness, Dave had stopped fighting Derek, she carefully walked towards Derek without removing her eyes from Marcella, "are you okay?" She asked Derek, wishing she could hold him in her arms already and he stood up from Dave, tying him up.
" I know you can't shoot me, you don't have the heart of a murderer" Marcella gloated coming towards her
"Stop right there or I'll shoot one more step and I'll shoot you"
"I know you can't" she took another step towards Kathleen and Kathleen released the trigger, aiming for her thighs, Marcella screamed in pain as she fell on the floor, "I won't miss the next shot" she warned just as they heard the sound of the siren, in a flash, Marcella reached for dead man on the floor, taking out his gun, "I won't let you go" she gritted as she fired a shot at Kathleen, Derek quickly dived to shield her, collecting the bullet made for her, "no" Kathleen gasp, unable to believe what has just happened, she aimed at Marcella and shot at her, screaming hysterically, blood splattered all over, she fired until there was no more bullet, Marcella's glazed eyes stared back at her unseeingly.
Kàthleen knelt in front of Derek, taking him in her arms as his blood kept pooling, she tapped his chin, "no, my love, please stay with me, you'll be fine, I won't let you die" Derek smiled weakly before his eyes closed
"Where's the ambulance?" Kàthleen screamed just as the cops came running in, they took in the sight and quickly took Derek to the ambulance, Dave was kept in handcuffs and was led away by the cops.
Kàthleen ran alongside Derek, tears running down her cheeks, barefooted and with her body filled with bloodstains.
Derek was wheeled into the ER and surgery was performed on him to get the bullet out, Kathleen paced the hospital and was leaning on the wall with her eyes closed when she felt a hand on her shoulder, "my son is a fighter, he'll be fine"
She stared in amazement at her father-in-law, it was the first time she had seen him healthy "dad? I'm sorry, can I call you dad?"
He chuckled at her obvious confusion, "that's what you've been calling me right?"
"How did you know I was here?"
Michael Deloux sighed, "I knew something was up the moment Derek picked me up from the hospital and I had someone follow him immediately he left the house, although, he left an instruction with a maid for the police to be notified if he wasn't home in an hour but I figured that an hour might just be too late.
Kàthleen choked on a sob and flung her arms around him, "thank you Dad"
"You brought back my son to me, I should be the one grateful to you" he carefully disengaged himself from her, "you need to have some rest, you have been through a lot lately, just go and freshen up, I'll be here,"
She nodded reluctantly, "please take care of him"

"Daddy, Daddy" Kathleen heard her twins shouted as they dashed outside, she smiled, as she came out just in time to see Daniel jump on his father, Derek laughed as he tickled him, Daisy, the younger twin finally reached him and he enveloped her in a hug, lifting both on each arm, he walked with them inside, "I hope you didn't give mummy hard time today?" he was asking and Kathleen snorted, "of cause they did" her kids were such a handful, it has been two years since the incident with Marcella and thank Goodness Derek had survived, Dave was charged for kidnap and murder and was sentenced to life in prison. Months later, Kathleen had found out she was pregnant, her joy knew no bounds, she smiled happily as she watched her kids with their Dad, he has indeed been a wonderful father, of course, she knew he would fit into the father figure very well, Afterall, she had seen how he had taken care of Kyle.
"Where are my sweethearts" Michael Deloux's voice boomed just as he appeared from the doorway, "I have a present for them, I'm giving you chumps, yeah! Consider it as your early Christmas presents"
Kàthleen chuckled, Michael dots on his grandkids and always gives them early Christmas presents as he termed it but to Kathleen, he never stop giving them presents as he would still be the first to give them Christmas gift on the day.
Daniel was pleased with his gift as he quickly jumped from his father's hold and ran to his grandpa, he was given a powerful toy car while Daisy was given a pinky and beautiful teddy bear, she smiled as she held it to her, she loves teddies, he stared at her Grandpa with blue eyes that were so much like her father's, "I yov you" - her baby way of saying, "I love you"
Her granddad was pleased as he kissed them both on their cheeks.
"Come on everyone, dinner's served"
Michael took the kids to the table and Derek dragged Kathleen back when she was about to follow, giving her a deep kiss, "I love you Mrs. Derek Deloux, Merry Christmas"
Her eyes twinkled, "I love you too Mr. Derek Deloux, Merry Christmas to you too"
He smiled, "I should have married you right away when I first saw you crying, I should have offered you more than just my handkerchief right then"
Her eyes widened as the realization dawned, "you were that stranger?
He chuckled, "I'm happy that date still brought us together, I have no regrets as I'll spend an eternity loving you"
She placed a kiss on his lips as she smiled, "and I'll spend eternity loving and receiving your love"
"Daddi, Mammi" their children called out and they both chuckled as they went to join them at the table.
Derek quickly stole another kiss and she chuckled, and sighed in contentment, every moment with him is always the best, she doesn't wish for anything else in life, she has finally found her home and it's with him.
