Derek watched dreadfully as the doctor walked towards them, "how's he doctor?"
The doctor shook his head at his question, "he has lost a lot of blood and would need blood Asap or I'm afraid we might lose him"
"No doctor, I can't lose my son"
"The blood of his mom is a no match and were having difficulty seeing his match because he has a rare blood group, but since you're the father then it's certain that there would be a match"
"Yea doctor, if he didn't take after his mom blood group then mine will be a match, please go ahead and confirm"
A sample of his blood was taken and a few hours later the doctor came out and told him that he couldn't give him blood because he wasn't a match
" How is that possible doctor?" He was aghast at the doctor's implications and the doctor stared at him looking baffled, "the only way Its possible is if you're not the father"
" but he's my son" a cold forbidding thought ran through his mind and he turned to Nicole who has turned white, "he's my son right?"
She shook her head, her eyes wide with fear, she opened her mouth to say something but no words came out, Derek's chest constricted, "seems like you've got no words,"
"Let's not talk about this now, please, let's save Kyle" she grabbed the doctors coat desperately, "I can't lose my son Doctor, I can't, please save him"
"You can save him by calling his father to come to donate blood"
"This can't be happening, it can't be" she grabbed her already disheveled hair, "everything is falling apart, no, no, no,"
"The clock is ticking," the doctor said as he walked away.
Derek grabbed her by the neck, "you lying bitch, you deceived me, how could you?"
Nicole coughed and Kathleen grabbed his hands, urging him to let go of her, "not here Derek, eyes are watching, you don't want another bad publicity do you?"
She hit his hand when he didn't immediately let go and finally he left Nicole who struggled to breathe, he stared at her with undiluted hatred as he simply turned on his heels and walked away with Kathleen hot on his heels.
Nicole watched him walk away with a clouded expression, Kyle, she can't let her son die, there's only one option left and that is to inform Kyle's real father about his situation, she quickly dialed Stefan's line and he answered on the fourth ring.
"Where are you?" She asked immediately he answered the phone, she heard a shuffling sound before his muffled voice was heard through the phone, "I'm out of the country to attend to something urgent, what's up?"
Oh, no! this can't be happening to her, if he doesn't come here as soon as possible, Kyle will not make it, she stifled a sob, "what's wrong?" Stefan asked hearing her muffled cry
"It's Kyle, he was involved in an accident, he needs you ASAP"
"How on Earth did that happen? You simply can't take care of one child, what kind of a mother are you?" Stefan fumed as he hung up, Nicole couldn't believe it, how dare he hang up on her, it's his son's life they're talking about here, she ran outside and saw Derek leaning his head against his car.
"Please do something, I don't want to lose my son" she held onto his pants as she sob.
Derek regarded her coldly, "I'm not a doctor, I tried remember? But my blood wasn't a match because he isn't my damn son"
"I'm sorry Derek, sorry that I deceived you but please do something, save him please"
"You should be with the doctor, not me"
Derek went back inside and walked towards the doctor, "I guess the child's father isn't available, is there no alternative?" He managed to force out, despite his grievances, he had once regarded Kyle as his son and had done everything for him, it would pain him if he didn't make it
" We're still searching for a match, we've ordered for fresh pints and they're on their way, hopefully, we would see the one that matches his"
Some hours later, the pints arrived just as a beeping sound was heard and the doctor was immediately signaled, it was coming from Kyle's room, he quickly rushed to check on the child and found no pulse, he shook his head, saddened at the loss as he made a record of the time of death.
"Doctor what's wrong with my child, how's he?" Nicole inquired frantically as soon as the doctor emerged, the doctor stared at her with remorse filled gaze and inside her, she knew what he was about to say next, her heartbeat seemed to stop for a while as she shook her head, not wanting him to say what her heart already knew.
"I'm sorry ma'am, we couldn't save him"
She grabbed his coat like a woman crazed, "I brought him here to be saved and you couldn't save him? I need my son, give him to me" she shook the doctor hard as she screamed and Derek tried to remove her grasp from the doctor.
"Let go of me" she screamed at Derek, "you refused to save him because he wasn't your real son, you'll pay for this, I'll make you pay" she wailed, scratching Derek's eyes in a fit of anger but he simply dodged it and shook her hard till her teeth snapped, "get a hold of yourself and stop with the blames, I came here to save him but my blood wasn't a match, whatever happened to his real father?"
Nicole felt the life suddenly drained out of her as she stared at Derek, dazed and unseeing, "he's out of the country".
Derek nodded jerkingly, "great, now Kyle is gone, although he turned out to not be my son but I'm still pained by his death because I at least once considered him my real son, I grieve for him too"
Tears streamed down Nicole's cheeks, although, she had borne Kyle out of selfish reasons but she's still his mother and his death had affected her so much, her heart filled with anger at his loss seeking for whom to blame.
"What's going on here?" Stefan asked from behind them and they all whirled at the sound of his voice, Nicole's eyes widened and her face constricted in anger, "Stefan? I thought you were out of the country".
