Finn's POV
I slept over at Rita's place just to make sure that she felt good and secured around me.
The following day, I urged her to stay at home and have enough rest because of the pain she passed through the previous night.
Afterall, no one else was gonna query her for not showing up at work promptly. I'm the CEO of the company she works at!
Instead of heading to the office right away, I visited my mom instead. It's been a while I saw her, how bad of me not to have reached out earlier.
I shushed the gate keeper and maids not to announce my arrival and the maids carried the few presents I got while they led the way to the yard where my mom sat on the swing sofa, drinking and merrying all alone.
“Surprise!” I caught her attention.
I spread my arms, like she was gonna jump on me but she didn't even make any move.
“Look who remembers that he has a mom” She scorned.
“Uh…ugh! Are you not happy to see me?” I moved closer to embrace her instead.
The maids left us alone.
“Your brother told me you did not only neglect me but him as well, you abandoned us like you have got no family at all” My mom grumbled.
“Oh no mom! I will never do such a thing. I am not a prodigal son” I took her hands and kissed it. “I have missed you so much mommy”
Even when she was playing hard to get, she finally put on a smile.
“I missed you too” She responded.
I sat beside her, gazing at her in admiration “You are doing very fine”
“Why not. I've been taking very good care of myself more than ever” She replied, sharing me a glass of the juice she was drinking.
The maids also returned to serve me french fries.
“How's the company?” She asked.
“Great, great. Have you checked our current net worth?”
“Yes dear, I am impressed. You're handling the company better than I did, I'm so proud of you”
“Dad will also be proud of me wherever he is. Among the companies he left behind, mine is doing extraordinarily well” I remarked and started eating some fries.
“Ding dong! That remind me of this news” She dropped her glass cup and sat upright.
I knew she was gonna say something very important.
“What's it?”
“Have you thought about settling down soon?” I can't believe my mom finally asked such a question!
“Hmmn, you mean marriage?”
“Of course! You won't be rewarded an accolade for being a bachelor at almost thirty you know?”
I giggled.
“Alex told me you use and dump girls! That's so irresponsible of you!”
“Use and dump? That's a cruel thing to say. I will never ever do such”
“How about the girls you uhm.. hook up with at the club?”
“I'm not a prostitute”
“I'm not saying you are but just so you know, the club isn't the best place to find a lover” My mom said.
“Of course, I know. It's been a while I went to the club, I am a changed person now. Alex is crazy for filling your head with nasty assumptions about me”
“I know you too well Finn, this isn't about what Alex told me. Do you want me to start asking you when last you had S*X?”
“Uh!! That's the most awkward question you should never ask mom!” I shunned, scoffing.
Memories of the previous night flooded my head.
“Oh well, suit yourself” She said. “Back to the news I have for you” She said.
“So you haven't even made any mention of it yet. Is it a good news?”
“Hmmn C & O company reached out to me. Don't you check your Gmail at all Finn?”
“I uhm, deliberately archived some mails”
“We can't afford losing 70 billion!”
“70 billion isn't way too huge” I scoffed.
“Then add 70 billion to the company's net worth”
“Oops! It's way to huge then!”
“C & O company wanna work with us jointly. The chief executive officer reached out to me and asked if we're interested in merging our company with theirs as one”
“Oh! I saw their mail and intentionally ignored it. Why not? It's such a ridiculous offer! Who does that?
“It is not ridiculous! This is growth Finn!”
“Growth my foot!” I hissed.
“I read the contract, they'll pay the 70 billion as a signing bonus, and we'll also earn more when we start working together! Therefore our net worth will boom!” That statement made me smile.
“We love money so much in this family, it's heredity” She added.
“Billionaire’s goal!” I remarked cheerfully as I picked up my phone and sent a mail.
“What is their requirement?” I inquired.
“Our last name. Since we are becoming one, they will bear our last name, Lakson” My mom explained further.
“Yeah, as it should be”
“That's not all. The CEO of C & O has no son to inherit the company, that's why they came up with this wonderful decision”
“Who said women shouldn't own a company! You took over Dad's company” I smirked.
“Well, whatever reason why they took this decision is to our own benefit afterall”
“Right!”
“So have you accepted to sign the marriage contract?” She asked.
“Marriage contract?” I exclaimed. “What marriage contract are you talking about?”
Now, it dawned on me that she's been beating around the bush.
The CEO of C & O has no son but daughter and since they're using my last name, I will have to get married to the daughter so she could take my last name, Lakston. It is a marriage contract!!!
“Hell no, no! Jeez! I already sent them a mail to come over for a meeting tomorrow” I slapped my face.
“Come on Finn, their daughter is very much single, she's such a young and beautiful woman. Thank Goodness, you are not married yet nor are you seriously into anyone”
I scoffed;” Sounds more like you have been arranging a marriage for me”
“No dear. This offer came up right just in time.You could see it more like a blind date”
“No mom, this is never gonna work out” I said.
She was gonna say something again but I interrupted her with another sharp No. “No!”
