Double Claims: The Lost mate Chapter 27

Maria’s POV Tʜe sourcᴇ of thɪs content ɪs novel※fire.net Jada flipped the book over a couple more times, but everything remained like it was. "Are there other books ?" I asked with widened eyes. Jada shook her head. "I lent this book to the last seer I trained. It wasn’t blank." I stared at the blank pages, trying to understand what tricks our minds played on us. "Were you in the same room with the girl when she read the book?" I asked the question out of curiosity, unsure if it could solve the problem. "No. She took it home and returned it the next day. I never bothered opening it." "Then, how come the pages are blank?" I sighed out of frustration and grabbed the book, flipping through its white blank pages. "Maybe you brought the wrong book. This couldn’t be the one you gave her." While I was still talking, a gust of wind slammed the library door shut. The book began shaking in my hand. I tried to throw it off, but some unseen force balanced it. "What is happening?" I shouted as a bright light shone from the pages of the book. Jada rushed towards me and hit the book off my hand. It fell on the table, and the first page opened. It wasn’t blank like before. I could see the words written on it and it read: "Only to be read by the seer." "I can see the writings." I stuttered as I flipped through the pages. "I still see blank pages. You mean you can see the words?" I nodded my head. "Yes." "Interesting. It means the book can only be read by a seer." I marveled as I glanced at the book, too awed to be bothered if I wanted to be a seer or not. Jada watched me carefully as I read the book. The contents included information about different types of seer, how to control the special ability and how to know if you’re truly a seer. "This is amazing." I squealed as the light continued to radiate from the book. Maybe my abilities weren’t as bad as I thought they were. "Tell me what is written." Jada said in a voice full of curiosity. I scooped the book from the table into both hands. The light shimmered on my face as I smiled like a child who had found candy. I prepared to read the book aloud so that Jada could hear. I started. "Types of seers. Seers can see what the ordinary eyes can’t. Most times, seeing wandering spirits and other creatures of the land which lurk around. At times, they guide the spirits of werewolves long dead to cross over to the other side. Other times, they can see a whole new supernatural world of vampires, elfs, fairies, demons and merpeople." Jada nodded her head, indicating that she was paying attention to me. "In rare cases, they may see other things like the ability to predict the future, see through people’s characters and even gain gifts of healing." A wow escaped Jada’s lips as she listened. I flipped through a couple more pages which contained illustrations. I read aloud. "How to know you’re a seer." I paused to look at Jada who gave me a go ahead look. I cleared my throat before proceeding to read the rest. "This book was made for seers, and if you can read it, then you’re one of them. But, you would never unlock your potential if the three guardians do not give you their blessings. They appear as shadows, and until they take their full form, and speak to you, you won’t be a true seer." "Those shadows you saw." Jada blurted as though reading my thoughts. "That’s what the book is talking about." "Why can’t they reveal their true self to me? Why do they still appear as shadows? I need their blessings." "Look who is now happy about being a seer." Jada teased. "Read further. Maybe we’d find something helpful." I searched further, but didn’t see anything that led to how I could receive the blessings. The next heading I saw was how to control the seeing ability. I took a deep breath before reading it for Jada to hear. "The gift of seeing needs a lot of control to prevent it from interfering with normal life. With constant training, meditation and practice, a seer can shut off the ability with ease." "It’s good that you can still control it. Hasn’t it said anything about how to appease the guardians. I flipped through more pages which described things which I wasn’t looking for. "Keep checking." Jada urged me. I read between the lines of each page, until I finally got to the last. "There’s nothing on it." I said, letting out a desperate sigh. I bit my lower lip, feeling useless that I had access to being a seer, but I could never be one, because I couldn’t receive the blessings of the guardians. "They’re here." I muttered, looking at the wall to see the shadows of two men and a woman. I hurried towards the wall and knelt down. "Give me the blessings of a seer, great guardians." As I was still kneeling, the shadows vanished. I waited to see if they would reappear, but they didn’t. I felt Jada’s hand on my shoulder. I stood up and walked towards the book. By now, the book looked normal, and the bright light which it emanated earlier had disappeared. "You don’t need to be so hard on yourself." Jada said as she watched me turn the pages roughly. "We can ask another seer for help." I continued searching the book, barely listening to what she was saying. "Yes!" I squealed, throwing one hand in the air. "I have seen it." Jada looked at me with eagerness, wanting to hear how we could get the blessings from the guardians. I read the lines carefully. "The guardians may refuse to give you their blessings if you have an evil heart, if you’ve killed an innocent person, or if you..." My breath hitched in my throat as I only read the last part but didn’t say it out loud. I was guilty of that part and could now see why the guardians abandoned me. "What’s that?" Jada asked, eager to hear the last condition.
