Double Claims: The Lost mate Chapter 33

"You called for me." I said to my parents as I stood at the entrance of their room. Father adjusted his robe and motioned for me to enter the room. "I’m getting older." He announced, rubbing his slightly wrinkled forehead. We were close enough for me to notice the dark bags underneath his eyes. "I’m sure your mother told you about everything yesterday. How I need to hand over my alpha position to an heir." "She did, and she also mentioned that I’m not that heir." I said in a plain tone. "Your father has met with the best shaman in town. The shaman would try his best to get your wolf back, but if it doesn’t work, we have no other choice." Mother chipped in. "I can rule without a wolf. I received the blessings of the guardians. I’m a seer." I heard a gasp escape my mother’s lips, while father wore a puzzled look on his face. My breath hitched in my throat and I wondered if I had said something bad. "You got your ability, and you’re a seer?" Mother asked. "Your sister." Father said as he turned towards Laura. "Isn’t this what ended her?" I narrowed my eyes in confusion, trying to make sense of their statement. Mother stood up and placed both hands on my shoulders. "We have to end this. You need to go back to your normal state before it’s too late." "What do you mean?" I stuttered, feeling her hand which was a bit shaky. Her face was clouded with worry, but what was she worried about? "We should tell her." Father interrupted. "Tell me what? What’s going on?" Laura took a deep breath and took her hands off my shoulders. "Alice was my twin sister. At exactly 21 years, she got her ability. She was a seer and received the blessings of the guardians just like you." She paused for a moment to look at me. "I don’t want you to end up like her." "Mother, you’re confusing me. Did she die?" Laura had never told me about her sister. She never mentioned it. "Maria, you need to listen to me. Most of the things seers see are lies. Those visions would eventually make you mad, just like it did to my sister." "The guardians never mentioned anything like that. If it made your sister mad, then where is she? I want to speak to her." "She went missing and died a long time ago." Mother held my hand with both hands, her eyes filled with something heavy. "Please, don’t go down her path." It wasn’t making any sense to me. None of their negative claims was written in the book about seers, and the guardians never mentioned anything of this sort. Tʜe source of this ᴄontent ɪs NoveI[F]ire.net I slipped my hand away from hers. "I’m going to rule this pack as a seer." "You can’t." Father snapped. "Listen to your mother. This is dangerous." I let out a scoff. "This is just a plan from both of you to make me marry Triton." "I won’t fall for it. You can give your alpha position to someone else, but I won’t let you strip me of the only thing I just found." My breathing was ragged as I spoke. I pointed an accusatory finger at my mom. "You never had a sister, and you can’t deceive me with this fake story." "You’re being unnecessarily stubborn. You..." I didn’t wait to listen to the rest of her statement, before storming out of the room and slamming the door hard as I left. I fumed in annoyance and walked past Jada who tried to talk to me. She had never mentioned her sister till today. It had to be a lie. I grabbed the book about seers and stood at a corner. "What’s wrong?" Jada inquired as she finally caught up with me. "How long have you been working here?" I asked, responding to her question with another question. She squinted her eyes and made calculations with her hands. "Over five years." "Have you ever heard of my mother’s sister?" Jada shook her head. "No." I exhaled sharply and paced around the room, then proceeded to inform her of what mother said. How her sister who was a seer ran mad and died. "I’ve not met her sister." Jada confessed. "But I know another seer who I trained. You can meet her and talk to her." It made a lot of sense if I talked to a fellow seer and knew her experience so far. I would know if she had an outbreak of madness like my mother insinuated. "They told me that they hired a shaman to help me recover my wolf." "At least they did something good. We can visit the seer today. The earlier you get the information, the better." I took the book and headed to my room. After keeping it safely in one of the shelves, I changed into more comfortable clothes, a loose trousers and a long sleeved blouse. I hung my veil loosely over my face and joined Jada. The carriage wasn’t needed, because Jada said we wouldn’t be walking for a long distance. The distance was quite lengthy, and just when I was about to complain, she stopped in front of a house. "This is where Solara lives." Jada announced and proceeded to knock on the door. I surveyed the outside of the house which looked smaller than my place. The outside was painted entirely in black colour which looked quite odd. There were flowers planted in pots that looked distinct from the regular flowers I saw. "Maybe she isn’t at home." Jada sighed after she knocked one more time and got no response. Just when we were about to leave, the door creaked open and a young woman who looked barely older than me ushered us in. "Jada, it’s so good to see you after all these while." She said as she hugged Jada. She looked towards my direction and Jada introduced me. "This is a friend of mine, and she needs your help."
