Double Claims: The Lost mate Chapter 26

"We are allowing her here, just because you said so." Mother said as Jada stood by her side. "Thank you ma. I would make sure the accident doesn’t repeat itself." Jada responded, with her head bowed slightly. After my mother left the room, I ran towards Jada and hugged her tightly. "I’m so happy you’re awake." She squealed as we disentangled from the hug. "You don’t ever have to bother about your lack of special gifts. You’re special just the way you are." I took a deep breath as I stared at the wall. The images appeared again. Jada followed my gaze, and then looked at me. Those strange images were the reason I had called for her early in the morning. "Do you see it?" I pointed in the direction. "I’ve been seeing shadows of people since I woke up. I thought you may have an answer." Jada crinkled her brows in confusion. She looked at the wall once again before directing her gaze to me. "What does it look like?" I squinted my eyes a bit as I studied the shadows. "They take the shape of a man and woman, like normal people." Updates are released by novel(ꜰ)ire.net Jada nodded her head. "Do they speak to you? Do they move?" I shook my head. "No." She folded her arms across her chest and was lost in deep thought. The frown on her face deepened, and for a brief moment, none of us said anything. "There was one of the students who saw something . She was a seer. She could see the souls of people long dead and could also see other creatures which weren’t werewolves." She paused and locked her gaze with mine. "She saw creatures which lurked around." A sense of dread enveloped me. I always wanted to have abilities, but not one which seemed scary . The hair on my skin stood erect and goosebumps spread over me. "I don’t want to be a seer." I blurted out. "Why can’t I have normal abilities like fire, ice or water control. Seeing all those sounds scary." Jada closed the distance between us and motioned me to sit on my bed. She saw that I was agitated and worried. "I’m only assuming. We still have to confirm if the seer ability is what you have." I took a deep breath and let out a forlorn sigh. "I hope not." She walked towards the bed and sat on it, then placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Seers are good people. They are respected and even well paid. If you become one, trust me, you won’t regret it." I scoffed lightly and folded my hand across my chest. The concept of seers sounded confusing and a bit funny. The dots weren’t connecting, and there seemed to be a lot of loopholes in their theory. "Why can’t these seers see what is capturing the women from the pack?" Jada let out a chuckle. "I know only one woman who has the seeing gift, and they can only see ghosts and spirits." "The gift sounds useless then." I said and stood up from the bed. "I don’t want to see ghosts or spirits, they are of no use." "You may not understand it yet. But sometimes, when werewolves die, their spirits have a hard time transmigrating to the spirit world. These seers can see it and guide their spirits." "Oh goddess," I muttered below my breath. "Let’s confirm it first before you scare me." I walked towards the mirror, running my hand through my long black hair. It seemed to have gotten shorter during my unconscious state. "We have to check the library for resources, before I can finally confirm that you’re a seer." Her voice had a hint of happiness in it. Was she really happy that I’d be suffering with spirits and strange beings? "When you’re done, you’ll meet me at the library." She said, seeing that I was busy tending to my hair. After she left, I took several deep breaths, trying to calm my wandering mind. I looked into the mirror and my hazel eyes stared at me. I wondered how my life would have been if I could control fire. One thing was sure, the first thing I’d have done was to burn all the hair off Sasha’s hair. ’Bloody idiots’ I sighed to myself as I recalled how she shamelessly offered to marry my cheating suitor. I always had a thought at the back of my mind. The women of Veilwood were blessed with fire, water, air, earth and other abilities. Then, how come they seemed so powerless to this prey who took them. My mind drifted to when I tried escaping and stumbled upon a strange environment which I suspected to be the rogue king’s. Could he be the one capturing women? I brushed my hair and packed it in a low bun, leaving two strands out on my face. It was perfect. I dashed out of the room to meet Jada who waited at the library. As I got there, there were already several books thrown around the tables. She climbed the ladder and was on the fifth shelf, searching relentlessly for something. "I can’t find it." She turned towards me, cleaning the beads of sweat from her forehead. "The book of seers, it should be here somewhere." I moved to the other shelves, trying to find the book as well. All that I saw were books about martial arts and elemental control. "Here it is." Jada breathed heavily and climbed down the ladder with a heavy-looking book in her hand. She placed the book on the table and blew off the dust which covered it. I read the title— "The book of the gift of seers." Below the title, there was a tiny writing which read— "only to be seen by seers." After Jada cleaned off the dust and cobwebs, she opened the book. The first page took us by surprise. She kept flipping through. Her face had a perplexed expression, and I was astonished as well. When she got to the last page of the book, she turned towards me and said. "This is strange."
