Just when he returned to the temporary lodging, the police had located Amelie’s adoption records from a few years ago.
She had been taken away and renamed Danielle.
The performance at the school was still going on, but Roger had absolutely no intention of participating; he called Henrik to give a rundown of what had happened.
Then, he made an excuse for Henrik to handle the follow-up matters and drove back to Baytown alone.
He was somewhat impatient now.
The spoils from the Water Ghosts and that eerie wooden doll, especially the latter, clearly had considerable value.
If he was lucky enough, these two items might even upgrade his cabin to another level!
“Damn it, I pay you to complete tasks, and now you want me to wipe your ass?”
Henrik’s voice was full of complaints on the phone.
Roger chuckled, “In this mission, I met a girl, and she shares a common interest with you.”
“Maybe someday I can introduce you two.”
Roger was looking forward to the scene of Henrik and Danielle together.

Henrik approached an old lady with graying hair who looked to be in her mid-fifties, with well-maintained skin and gold-rimmed glasses on her face.

Henrik asked, looking puzzled.

Henrik’s expression turned serious as he picked up the file and left.
After Henrik left, the old woman made a phone call, waited a moment, “Withdraw your people, there’s no need to fuss over the girl anymore, let the matter rest.”
Henrik returned to his car in high spirits, “My judgment is as exceptional as ever!”
“I certainly didn’t choose wrong.”
He lit a cigarette and slightly furrowed his brow, “Having the insight to know that only the combat strength of a female Night Demon could match mine.”
After he had finished speaking, he turned his head abruptly, his expression darkening. “What are you standing there for? Hurry up and drive!”
“We’ve just taken on a big task!”
A young man with a wooden expression started the car.
“Mr. Henrik, please refrain from smoking in the car.”
“Also, please buckle up your seatbelt!”
Henrik extinguished the cigarette in his hand and slumped into his seat with a look of utter despondence.
“Once the probation period is over, I will definitely apply to have you replaced!!”
